I get the impression that you're not telling us the full story. Though maybe you can get deported for having heroin.

However, situation 1 has nothing to do with your cousin's situation. They are 2 different and separate crimes. Just because that criminals punishment may have been far more lenient does not mean your cousin should not face the consequences for his actions.

My best mate got sent to juvenile hall for possesion of marijuana, the world is a fucked up place. Kill it with fire.
How is this not justified?

And as on the greyhound bus, What the hell!? That guy should be institutionalized or thrown in prison. If it happened once and you let him go he'll only do it again until we realize he is a crazy mofo. Therapy doesn't work all the time.
I'm going to assume that the qualified professionals know more about that man and his status than us, and made the right decision accordingly.
My thoughts exactly.

First time offense and it was less than 1g.
He's your best mate, people (whether or not it is the truth) aren't going to believe it because it's most likely biased.

(P.S. I tried to snip the wall of text but the quotes got confusing and it ended up looking like I just typed the whole thing out. Sorry)

So let's see:

<link=http://www.canada.com/windsorstar/news/story.html?id=5e5e949c-989a-47f7-86da-53801510af24>Situation 1: Some guy stabbed and beheaded another guy on a greyhound bus. He gets an insanity plea and walks out free with therapy.

Situation 2: My cousin does heroin and finds himself deported from the United States, he isn't allowed to go back.

Please clarify what I'm obviously missing here.
i assume your cousin was on some sort of visa which probably had rules

IE no jailable offenses or no drugs yes the first one is outragous but the second one seems strictly fair in my eyes

also it could be a point of well this drug offence denies you from getting another visa for basically anything other than travel and we dont think youll leave when the current ones up so get lost

Unless your cousin was here illegally, there's absolutely no reason for a punishment that rash.

It's called 'human rights', and it makes no sense at all.
Do explain exactly how 'human rights' applies to the punishments applied here?

One is obviously crazy and gets sentenced to a padded cell. The other is a foreigner and was deported instead of receiving a prison sentence. I fail to see the problem.

If someone tries to use the insanity plea, not temporary or heat of the moment insanity, but being completely bat sh*t crazy insanity then the death penalty should be the only option for sentancing. If they are that crazy then they really wont care when they are on the electric chair, or whatever method of capital punishment is deemed correct.

And the united states has its priorities completely screwed, drugs are punished harsher than murder, that is when a society needs to seriously re-evaluate itself

It shouldn't matter if you are insane, beheading someone warrants a death penalty in my mind, it goes beyond murder, since the body bisected.
Got to disagree entirely on that first point - if you're insane (severely) then you may not be aware of what you've done, why it's wrong (that may be hard to understand but it can happen), etc.

Why do you think children under 10 are given much more lenient punishments than those above 10?

Crimes of passion (or whatever they're called) are acknowledged in court - and rightly so - so someone with a severe mental disability gaining a lighter sentence is more than acceptable and understandable to me.

The OP is exceptionally bear bones - he makes it sound like the guy just went, "yeah I'm insane so I didn't mean to." He'd of had the crap examined out of him several times over (especially with such a severe case) before anyone would just let him 'go free' (if you really think that you clearly can't maintain on objective view of the situation) with some therapy.

Same with the second line - he hasn't given the circumstances of the cousin. Whilst (with no other knowledge) it sounds far too harsh, I'm pretty sure you're missing things out.

Not to mention what you've written is likely biased as you see the situation as unjust.

Insanity plea is NOT going free, with some therapy. Insanity plea is an incredibly rare defense, that almost never works, and basically gets you put in a jail filed with mentally ill instead of a jail filled with criminals.

We have theifs suing the owners of the house they were trying to rob.
We have people who sue a water park over getting splashed.
We have guys riding busses and decapitating people.
Humanity fails, deal with it.
Oh look, another person coining the "humanity fails" phrase.

There's 7 billion people on the planet you know. Stop being so melodramatic.

OT: Regarding the '...when 1 in 5 women are sexually assaulted' malarky, thats very difficult to do anything about seeming as most cases of sexual assault/ rape are done by someone close to them

It sucks your cousin got deported, but black tar heroin is really serious stuff. Even if your cousin was a US citizen, he would have been looking at 5 years in prison as a mandatory minimum. Think of it this way, 12 people died for each hit of heroin your cousin did. His 'high' cost 12 people their lives, and countless children have to grow up now as orphans.

Don't expect too much sympathy for your cousin from law-abide people.
