You're missing the fact that situation #1 happened in Canada while Situation #2 happened in the US. Different countries, different laws

To be honest, everything to do with the justice system is crap. Law and order doesn't exist. Instead they choose who they like and who they don't.

So a man kills another man on a bus, and psychological professionals deem that he is insane. Ok, that make sense.

Your cousin is deported for committing a felonious and federal crime. That makes sense as well.

I don't see how this is not fair.

Ninja'd instantly. See, this is why I hate the UK government so much. And I live in the same house as a young Labour politician (well, he studies it and he's the deputy head of our university Labour society...). Hopefully people like him will eventually turn this country around before it's too late, though I can't see it happening (and I agree with him on a lot of things as well despite being a Tory myself...).

But yeah, like MilkyFresh said, the world is fucked.

Situation 1: Read. Hate the justice system/your government is fucking messed up.

Situation 2: Although I have no love for heroin, or anything else you inject - deportation is a bit too much, isn't it ?

Humanity fails, what's new?
We have theifs suing the owners of the house they were trying to rob.
We have people who sue a water park over getting splashed.
We have guys riding busses and decapitating people.
Humanity fails, deal with it.
This, a million times over. The world is stuck in a ditch and wont get out, live with it.

So let's see:

<link=http://www.canada.com/windsorstar/news/story.html?id=5e5e949c-989a-47f7-86da-53801510af24>Situation 1: Some guy stabbed and beheaded another guy on a greyhound bus. He gets an insanity plea and walks out free with therapy.

Situation 2: My cousin does heroin and finds himself deported from the United States, he isn't allowed to go back.

Please clarify what I'm obviously missing here.
I shall do my best to clarify!

1. That man was quite clearly insane and will never leave whatever mental institution that he goes to. It isn't the best policy but very few developed countries use the death sentence in this modern era.

2. Moral of this story is to obey the law. The USA and any other western countries do not want druggies like your cousin walking the streets, unfortunately we cannot deport citizens for taking class A drugs but immigrants are fair game.

Top tip for your cousin, if you can't buy a substance in a super market or store then it is probably illegal and should be avoided if you actually like living in a country in which it is illegal.

Oh yes it is. I don't know why we have the insanity plea... Or we should at least just lock them up somewhere other than prison. Although, I don't like drugs, so, tough break for your cousin, but he brought it on himself.

It's called 'human rights', and it makes no sense at all.
Do explain exactly how 'human rights' applies to the punishments applied here?

One is obviously crazy and gets sentenced to a padded cell. The other is a foreigner and was deported instead of receiving a prison sentence. I fail to see the problem.
Basically, it's socially acceptable to do anything, even murder, so long as you suffer any kind of psychological disorder which, considering ALL humans have something psychologically wrong with them (either big or small)...

Just go to the courts with a story like you were treated like shit by your parents as a kid, hire a group of violin players for added effect, and you can do what you like.

It wouldn't surprise me if Hitler could get away with the genocide of the jews in this day and age, so long as he blamed it on some mental inferiority complex crap.

That being said, if a foreigner in my country was selling drugs, I'd want him kicked also. Why spend thousands of pounds of tax payer's money on looking after them in jail when you can just kick them out and not have to worry about it?

First of all, good. Secondly, was he here legally to begin with? In any case, a felony is more than enough reason to get kicked out of a country. Hell in some countries it is the death penalty. He was a retard, he got deported. No foul there.
Mmmmm, no, he lived there, although admittedly after living in Canada..

It's positively surreal to realize that you or someone you know in the United States has been "deported to Canada".

I don't see what the two situations have to do with each other, seeing as they're different justice systems.

However, the American justice system is fucked by harsh drug laws. All drugs should be legal. "But I don't want junkies around". If a drug is really that bad then some rehab center is making money and you can send them there, they'll die off naturally or they'll actually commit a crime worthy of BEING ARRESTED FOR. Also, it will create jobs and bring new industries to the economy. The lack of a judicial system present in a black market system (causing murder and gang wars) won't exist anymore. The gangs will move into crimes worthy of being arrested for or move on into a legal lifestyle. Cops can go after shit that matters, wouldn't that be fucking amazing huh?

Natural selection will take its place, and the smart people will stay away from the ones that gain a bad reputation. Other drugs (marijauana, psychadelics, etc.) will just be enjoyed legally and peacefully. People should have CONTROL OVER THEIR OWN BODIES. The attitude that junkies should be thrown out because they'll commit crime later is tantamount to 1984-esque thought police.
