People have a real disapproval for twilight vampires(me included) and monsters in other movie like underworld.
In short, how do you think your favorite monster should be portrayed from godzilla to werewolves to frankenstein, the mummy and zombies.....and liches.
Personally I prefer sticking to the lore and thats why I like the classic movie monsters(wolfman, drac, creature, frank, mummy) and thats why I like 2009's remake of wolfman and Im hoping for a sequel.
as for giants, i didnt like cloverfields(mostly because of the handcam) but like godzilla movies.

You know what my problem with modern day vampires is? They lack all subtlety. Vampires are supposed to be irresistably seductive. That's how they hunt for you. They don't need to have super strength or rip your throat out.

If Edward Cullen had been an evil vampire whose entire plan was to seduce Bella so he could kill her, Twilight would have been the best vampire movie in a long time. The evil vampires in that movie were ridiculous; they go out and attack people in broad daylight without any kind of stalking, subterfuge or subtlety. That's not cool vampire shit; that's stupid. Mind you, I could rant about all the shit that's stupid in that movie, but I'll spare you.

I don't get pissed off at badass vampires like the ones from Near Dark, but I really do miss vampire classic. Seriously, Morinth from Mass Effect 2 is the only legitimate portrayal of a vampire I've seen in a long time.

TL;DR - More "come in to my parlour, said the spider to the fly" less "HULK SMASH".

I hate to be that guy, but Frankenstein isn't a monster. I can't help it, it is one of my favorite novels.
OP: Vampires aren't done justice. They are supposed to be a lot like succubi: irresistible, manipulative, and have one thing in mind: feasting on you. The beauty of it is that they make you want it. Yeah, Morinth is essentially a space vampire.

Well, technically...
...but yeah the OP probably means The Creature.

The Lore you talk about for werewolves is almost certainly from the Lon Chaney Wolfman as they made most of it up for the movie.

How do I like my monsters? Human. The Reverend Harry Powell, Captain Vidal, Aguirre, they all scare me more than any bogeyman.

Funnily enough, the monster seemed to be the most 'human' character in the novel :)

I dislike Dracula and its concept. It wasn't scary (for me) and some of those powers were odd.

Frankenstein's monster (Adam Frankenstein, if you're interested in his full name) is a tragic figure so he's not really fit as a monster.

Other than that, vampires are interesting enough if they're similar to the World of Darkness concept. Werewolves should be killing machines (anyone watched Wolfen or Dog Soldiers?)

The Creature's name is Gillman and he's sadly one of the least known monster. Shame. Gillman rocks. (The Creature from the Black Lagoon for those who don't know him)

Don't tell me that's not hardcore.

As for vampires, I definietely prefer the "original" ones.
In case of.. well, everything else, I also like the oldschool versions, but I'm not a real fanboy of Frankenstein-ish monsters. They are a bit too primitive and/or nonrealistic, in my opinion.
My favorite are all sorts of changelings and shapeshifters. And the "silent but powerful", sly monsters.

Isn't a mummy basically a zombie in bandages, just sayin...

I kind of liked the idea of the the twilight werewolves, but vampires should have to stick to dark, it's scarier that way and it gives people a legitimate reason to avoid the artic circle.

Oh, and zombies shouldn't be able to turn you with blood to skin contact, that's just a bit too unfair for me 28 Days Later

I'm not really a fan of diversity, I like there to be an absolute, but I also like to adjust my own version of things.
like, a vampire to me, wouldn't go as far as classic (sun-fearing, pure-evil, anti-christ, blood-through-neck, Garlic Allergic) Vampires.
I kind-of, have my own way of thinking of these certain monsters.

example would be:
I don't think of Vampires as burst-into flames in sunlight, but severely slowed and weakened in it.
I don't think of them being killed as being staked through the Heart, but impaled with something kept in the wound (which is why bullets wouldn't work, they'd go right through)and by being torn-apart (epicly gruesome...)
I don't think of them as preying exclusively on humans, I like to think they could cannibalise (so as to give them a chance as the dominant species on Earth, if the scenario would happen)
I do however like to think of them as supernatural beings, and being invisible in the darkness.

but that's just my preferrence, anyway...

Seeing as everybody cant think of anything else but f***ing vampires...
A Vampire should not sparkle like a damn fairy when it is exposed to the sun. It should burst into flames and die painfully for its cursed exsistence. I appreciate vampires but thats how the world goes round y'know.

Orcs and Goblins should be Green!

A Mummy should always be kept wrapped and only say "Mmmmmgh! Mmmmmmmmgh!

...and if Cows ever turn mutant, they should totally shoot lazers from their eyes!

That always sounds very dubious to me...in most cases "the lore" means "like what they were in this movie from 50 years ago".

There've been all sorts of depictions of vampires in mythology, many of which don't follow "the lore". Vampires didn't burn in sunlight until the film Nosferatu was made in 1929 or thereabouts...Dracula, one of the great vampire archetypes, could walk round in sunlight. Before Varney in the 1850s, they didn't have fangs. Twilight's vampires weren't bad because they "raped the vampire myth" or whatever, they were bad because they were bad.

Following the set rules for things just cause everyone else does is pretty lame. Zombies in movies get created in all different ways, but you always have to shoot them in the head, for no adaquately explained reason.

One thing monsters do need to be, is competent. Zombies, in most depictions, flat out aren't scary. They can't run, shoot, think, or do anything other than slowly shamble towards their enemy, moaning so they can be heard well in advance. Any vaguely competent human forces would wipe them out...it's not a battle, it's a shooting gallery.

Now, if some guiding intelligence in the form of a wizard/alien/whatever had some element of control over them, they could be scary. If killing a zombie alerted something nasty to your existence, they could be scary. As it is...they aren't.

I don't think there should be one exact way that all monsters of a certain type should be portrayed.
For example, I don't think al vampires should be smooth and seductive like Dracula because, even though he was awesome, the vampires from the Legacy of Kain series were awesome as well.

They had claws and wings and couldn't change into bats. They had they're own societies and water and sunlight burned they're skin.

I also like how they were done in the Elder Scrolls games. If they drink blood, they're powers become weaker but they're resistance to sunlight increases. If they stay off the blood they get more powers and sunlight burns.

One thing vampires definitely should not be however, is sparkly. Even the Count from Sesame Street wasn't that much of a pansy.

It's an infection of the blood in that movie, they're not really zombies at all. The zombies' blood has to contact yours so their blood on your skin is fine you won't catch it, but if you get it in your eye, mouth, or an open cut you'll be infected.

I dislike any type of vampire that socializes with humans, I look at them as predators first and foremost, lions don't hang out and seduce zebras.

I like how World of Darkness handles their vampires, because instead of portraying just one type of vampire, they separated other popular portrayals into subspecies, so you can have Nosferatu-types along with the pretty Anne-Rice ones, and uh, whatever type Malkavians are. Also, their vampires aren't harmed by crosses, garlic, or water, but things like shotguns and getting impaled through the heart still hurt.

It's a shame that this game was so buggy upon release (there's an unofficial patch floating around in the mod community for it if I recall), because it had a good story, decent gameplay, and great voice-acting. I would totes play a new entry if it were made.

I guess you can say I don't really favor any one portrayal over another, because it's far more interesting to have different types interacting with each other and then build a world around that, adding potential depth to the lore.

With that said, Malkavians still rule.

Very true Eggman, though Kain did the bat thing pretty often, even if he is a pretty special case. I separate vampires into myth, contemporary and defanged. Examples being the folk legend undead corpse(can't cross moving water sleep in graves sort), contemporary can be pretty or ugly but retain either a supernatural taint or bestial urges of some sort, defanged involve removing the downsides of being a vampire be it bloodlust/lack of humanity/etc. or civilized vampires that are just people with sharp teeth (which can be good, horror-comedy is a favorite of mine). 'Science' based vampires don't bother me, 'Peeps' was rather good for a young adult book.

I'd like to see some expansion past the classic monster stable though, throw in some Revanants(the Death Knights from WoW are examples of them), the world tour sort of monsters that Hellboy and the BPRD tangle with as a job could add some flavor as well.

Walk of life monster movies would be nice, not just fighting monsters but after an apocalyptic scenario how normal people adapt to avoid monsters/live in a new paradigm.
