How to know if you've found The One? (if such a concept actually exists).

Before any Matrix jokes, no, I ain't talking about Neo.

I want to get married one of these days, but I'm not sure if I have a soulmate, or even deserve one for that matter. For if I actually find someone who I'd consider "The One," can anyone tell me what the signs are?, and how to tell if said "One" is actually interested in a Joe Schmo like I?

The One is a very pessimistic way of thinking, cause it is very limiting. It makes you worry for no good reason.

I find it is more optimistic to figure that there are many people out there who can make you happier than you could ever know. Maybe for similar reasons, maybe for different ones, but there are likely plenty of people who can love you and you can love that will let you grow old and die happy.

People just get hung up on stupid things. The concept of "The Friendzone" is proof enough of that. Your perfect partner is going to basically be your best friend anyways...that you want to have sex with.

Just find someone who you want to spend time with actually doing stuff...and would bang.

I know whoever I end up with has to be a gamer too so we can share and bond over gaming. If you dont want to spend time with them outside the bedroom, whats the point?

Fair points, and hopefully the bedroom wouldn't be the only way we indulge in local multiplayer, lol

The concept is rather absurd. For some reason, there is only person, and one person only who is set up so that you are perfect mates for each other. You will meet this person, they won't be one of the billions more people you never meet. In the meantime, your experiences won't have changed either of you to be incompatible, and you won't change after meeting them.

Yeah, no.

Being able to find someone more or less compatible (out of many possibilties), at least at that time, that I could believe in.

I'm working on it. There are a TON of anime ones, but I'm trying to craft the perfect joke using them.

The One, a 2001 film starring Jet Li as some dude fighting a version of himself who wants to kill all his alternate selves

Also, think the whole concept is wrong. Too mystical, reality is just there's some people who might like you, some who likely won't, no special destined person.

I dunno, I mean after all, there can only be one...

More seriously, latching onto the idea of "the One" is a bad idea. There might very well be someone in your life who you just click with more than anyone before or after, but never bank on that idea. Among other reasons, focusing on finding "the One" may in fact blind you to that very person through failure to immediately click on that level. Pessimistically, it could even make you sabotage yourself because you've established unreasonably high expectations which nobody can match.

When there's an Amazon page where you can buy it? https://www.amazon.co.uk/One-DVD-Jet-Li/dp/B00006AFIJ

I don't really see what the problem is here.

In all seriousness, I find the concept about as plausible as "love at first sight". That is to say, borderline absurd.

After you've grown old and died together... By then you 'might' have some idea... Maybe.

It's possible the 3,7 and 9 do that too, but a dead giveway that you got the One is when a bunch of Grim Reaper wannabes show up at your doorstep. And stab you with knives. Pointy knives. That burn with the white-hot hatred of a thousand evils.

There's a lot of ones. And zeros. And point fives.

The way I look at it is; as long as they survive pass the 6 month gauntlet in my underground labyrinth of tormented souls, without completely escaping to call the pesky police, and the Stockholm syndrome finally kicks in...They're a keeper.

Would rent it out to you myself for your question, but the last person who agreed to that decided to be a hero and wander in never to be seen again. I should've told him about the aggressive ecosystem and rabid cannibal society earlier.

Eh, I don't have a problem wit the existence of love at first sight, only that's leaping before looking.

I'd be frightened, because the person "perfect" for me is likely to be a hot mess of problems.

I like friction in my relationships. Reminds you to be on your toes and is a force of personal change. Nothing frightens me more than those people who just seem to be way too much 'in love' ... how needy do you have to be to be like one of those people who are; 'I can't live without them, it's driving me insane...'?

Get a grip.

Well...

Before any Matrix jokes, no, I ain't talking about Neo.
Damn it!

OK then, I'll be serious. I believe it's something you just know, but after some time interacting together, I don't believe in any 'love at first sight' stuff, you'll eventually come to the conclusion that you actually like being with this person and would like to be with them on a near permanent basis. If they feel the same way then they're the one, if not you become a creepy stalker and probably wind up in jail with no chance of finding your 'the one' unless they somehow managed to be incarcerated in the same facility, so get it right on the first time or else.

I think I slipped away from serious halfway through that.
