It used to be "My very educated mother just show us nine planets"

But now its "My very educated mother just sucked uncle ned" and no one wants that.
that... just made my day.

Anyway... yeah, I dont' have any more to say on the matter. That sentence just summed up our solar system.

Pluto should never have been called a planet anyway. It's orbit isn't even circularized! Only fools demand its continued planet-hood, unscientific fools. Without consistent definitions how can we ever hope to do anything? We can't that's right, the world would descend into madness and anarchy. All would perish!

That's what calling Pluto a planet causes, the apocalypse.

I just remember their names without a mnemonic, it's not that hard.

Those of you saying Pluto is a planet, the reason behind calling it a dwarf planet is that if they didn't there would be something like 12 more planets. And really, since astronomy relies on definitions it is actually pretty important. There are fucking asteroids bigger than Pluto.

9 Sir. There are 9 Planets. I don't care what a body of astronomers say, especially when the topic is so debated.

Besides, the only sticky part to remember is Uranus comes before Neptune.

I used this, back in the day.

My. Very. Easy. Method. Just. Speeds. Up. Naming. Planets.

Yup.

Optionally remove the word planets if you don't believe in Pluto's planetoriusness

The one I learnt was Many Vile Earthlings Munch Jam Sandwiches Under Newspaper Piles, but since pluto is not longer considered this would be made void.

[HEADING=1]PLUTO IS STILL A PLANET!!!!![/HEADING]

I don't care what anyone says, Pluto is still a planet. It's a dwarf planet, but it's still a planet. Just because it's smaller than other planets doesn't make it any less a planet. Anyway, here's one I remember:

My Very Easy Method Just Speeds Up Naming Planets

It's one that I was taught as a kid and it's still as valid today as it was then.

Messenger, Love, Soil, War, Lightning, Strength, Sky, Sea, (and if you must) Underworld.

Easy, who is going to argue with that mnemonic devise?

PLUTO = PLANET!!! just cause someone says its not a planet means we have to RE learn EVERYTHING we were taught....screw that lol. Theres moons in this universe bigger then Pluto. How bout we name those dwarf stars. anywho. My Very Educated Mother Just Showed Us Nine lol. End it there. Its a cliffhanger.
Let's bring out the Check List for a planet!

1. is in orbit around the Sun, (check)
2. has sufficient mass to assume hydrostatic equilibrium (a nearly round shape), (check)
3. has "cleared the neighborhood" around its orbit. (not check)

Well damn, looks like Pluto isn't a planet. Of course, you do realize that if Pluto stayed a full planet then we would have had to learn as many as a few dozen new planets anyway right? A well educated and stubborn man like yourself would know that as well as asteroids fit our old definition of a planet better than Pluto did (bigger, more stable orbit, etc). Have you heard of Eris(previously known as Xena (Warrior Princess!!))? It is a dwarf planet farther away from the sun, is bigger than Pluto with a better orbit, and it isn't in an asteroid belt (The Kuiper belt, look it up) like Pluto is. Therefore, Pluto, our moon, and Makemake are not planets. But I am sure you have done all the research to make your informed statement so you don't need me telling you everything you already know. If you really want to have you mind blown: Earth has about 7 (non-man made) satellites; the moon is one of them.

Many Venusians, Earthlings & Martians Just Shouted: Über Noob!

But really, just learn the damned 8 planets by heart, and also learn to remember that the 4 closest to the sun are small solid rocks, the next two are gas giants and the final two are liquids. It's like that guy said earlier: they come in pairs.

The the idea of anidiot scientist. Pluto isn't a planet,it was taught and lauded as such because it was the first "planet" to be discovered by America.
