Interesting that they require line of sight to see that you're stealing things. This might be a much-needed break from Oblivion's AI which could sense if you were stealing things. Still, sucks that they're dumb enough to let people put buckets on their heads and don't know how to remove them themselves. Maybe this will work on stationary prison guards.

If that's how the AI works, I think I have to give them credit for having AI that actually relies on line of sight, rather than some proximity system, and a physics model that actually accounts for a bucket being dropped over someone's head.

And for giving us such a hilarious way to commit grand theft potables.

Now, I want to see whether dropping a bucket over a bandit's head in a bar fight actually impairs the bandit's targeting.

To be fair, what are the chances the devs would think of somebody trying that, it definitly never crossed my mind.

I know, but it's already a great innovation that the NPCs rely on sight to catch you stealing. It was just one resourceful player who figured out how to subvert it. Credit goes to both. Figures, games are not supposed to be perfect, just fun. This isn't even a bug, it's how the AI and physics work...

well now I'm going to walk into gamestop, put a basket over their heads, and rob them blind.

Well played. Well played indeed

EDIT: Oh good lord, I misread your post thinking you were predicting that the newsfeed would post on this, and then went to the forum news section and noticed the newsfeed on this subject, thinking it had actually happened thus, so I thought that the prediction you hadn't made came true when it actually didn't.
That's a really confusing line of thought, but just take from it that I made a mistake.

Oh Bethesda, what will you and your so called cutting edge AI think of next?
It's better than the NPC's having ESP and knowing you stole intuitively even if you've got a wall separating you and them.

You mean they fixed that in Skyrim? I thought today's Bethesda was in the business of making mistakes rather than fixing them....

I'm pretty sure that they require line of sight (as evidenced in the video) to realise you've stolen from them.
