How varied is my taste in music? Quite varied. To be certain, I listen mainly to music you've never heard of before, but I'm not in love with obscurity for its own sake like obnoxious hipsters are; I simply enjoy good music, and most genres can at least manage to produce some examples of that (there are a couple of musical sub-genres that are inherently worthless and irredeemable, but those are the exception).
If you've heard of it though, the likelihood that it sucks is far greater - music that is well-known is either critically acclaimed for some reason (and could suck mightily or actually be good, critics aren't very representative of those portions of the populace who are not critics), really good and somehow broadly liked anyways, or it "possesses broad mainstream appeal", which is another way to say it sucks but people like it anyhow because people are stupid and like crap. Obscure music might be obscure because it isn't any good, or because the public is simply unaware of it - either way though it hasn't been given the stamp of approval by the masses, which is in fact a black mark to overcome thanks to the aforementioned "people are stupid and like crap" principle and not a reassuring sign in the slightest.
