I really don't think the resources would ever deplete if the world is taken care well enough, Today we can grow vegetables in synthetic soil. Yeah it taste like ass but we can live out of it. or even better. One pill a day. full of vitamins minerals protein fat and carbs. All that is needed for a person to survive. Well that is all if the world is taken care of well enough. also don't expect to go any farther than mars, or a random gigantic space station. Light speed travel is ridiculous. I just expect we can manipulate gravity fields like in Mass Effect so its possible to travel faster than light in the vacuum of space, Without causing [Insert forces of the universe here] to get mad.

Depends how you define "the end of the world."

If you mean "We all die," then probably starvation after a volcano causes a nuclear winter that kills off all plant life.

If you mean "All life on earth dies," then probably gamma-ray bursts from a nearby (i.e. within a few thousand light-years) nova or gamma jet from a pulsar or similar, which could remove the ozone layer, allowing the sun's radiation to kill pretty much everything.

If you mean "The earth ceases to exist," then probably when it's consumed by the expanding sun.

The planet will get tired of us and spin at like a fafillion miles an hour till were thrown off like the infestation we are.

The answer is obvious, according to Jack Thompson video games will cause us to all go into mass genocidal fits and kill each other...Or the sun will be all like "MUST CONSUME" and will start expanding, and the world will look up and say, "Don't engulf me," and the sun will whisper back "No."

I have no clue as to how the world will end but I do believe that humans have the ability to leave this planet and search for new homes amongst the stars.
As for previous answers -
Yellowstone exploding? How do scientists know that it will explode or will ever explode? Yellowstone is just like any other patch of earth by which I mean that any place on earth has the potential to explode and create another volcano.
The Sun going supernova? - I really doubt that it will happen any time soon and when it does, our species will either be long gone from earth or we'll have gone extinct for some arbitrary reason. And for the record, science doesn't prove anything, evidence either supports an end or goes against it. And on another note, I do believe that we as a species are quite stupid in that our species developed these theories and believe that they will give us the end all answers to everything. 'We think and believe it happens this way, therefore it must happen this way' thinking.

Humans dying due to stupidity, overpopulation, war, resource loss? - this is by far the most likely to occur. However, I do believe that our species has some intellect into solving such problems as these. We may come to war if the oil, coal, and natural gas resources run out but if we can go solar, wind, water, hydrogen, or any other fuel form, then there will be no need for war. Plus I do not believe our species will die off when oil runs out but if we continue to destroy the world's forests which provide more than half of our oxygen, then many of us will die but most-likely not all. If overpopulation strikes, we could simply find much more efficient ways of producing food and creating towers for housing. But stupidity could mean anything, a likely example would run along the lines of 'I Am Legend' in which we create a new species which helps in one way but greatly harms us in another.

But if we are capable of undoing our mistakes, then we as a species will last more many more millenia, even longer than the dinosaurs. No one knows how they ended up extinct but it was likely because they did not possess the necessary intellect to overcome the challenges the world brought them.
I also do not believe in the greenhouse effect in the way that scientists have put it. Sure we are increasing CO2 levels, but not in the same degree as volcanoes and certain species of animals which give off methane. There are many greater and more dangerous gases than CO2. Besides, CO2 is necessary for plants. If people want to get rid of it, then we'd be killing off countless species of plants.

But as long as we continue to grow in our understanding of the world and can accept our mistakes against the world, we are capable of living on possibily until the universe ends.

Billions of years to create the earth. another few billion for life to start
hundreds of millions of years of evolution, just so we can come into existence

But in only a few thousand years, I find myself in an artificial shelter that can keep me comfortable in almost any earth environment, and its not even considered remarkable. and only decades after the IDEA of electronic computation, we have computers matching the thinking power of humanity itself.
its safe to we can figure out a way to keep going.

A lack of use of the search button.

This has been done to death, it will never "end", since the world is constructed of matter, and the theory of conservation of matter states that matter cannot be created or destroyed. Therefore, it will never end.

If you mean "the world as we know it", that will end within the next hundred years. The "world as we know it" forty years ago didn't include the internet or many common amenities that we have today.

If you mean humankind's world, it will end when the last human dies. And he shall die a lonely and unfulfilled life.

*EDIT*

3 sun going nova
In what 500000 years?
Actually, scientists have said that the sun is very close to going nova/dieing.
Well, you might as well say that a person in his 40s-50s is very close to dying. DYING, DAMN IT! GRAMMAR!! Oh, and pics or it didn't happen.

Anyway...

People can die from a supervulcano, black hole, radiation, pulse from a star far, far away (and then get burned by the Sun anyway).

The Earth will be destroyed by the Sun eventually. Either burned in few hundred thousands years, or swallowed.

Our Solar System will die from a black hole. Or a supernova, when our Sun explodes. Whichever will be first.

Two words; Zombie Apocalypse. We'll try to cure some disease, fail miserably, and it'll be like if I Am Legend happened, but the result was Left 4 Dead. =D

It fascinates me philosophically that Revelation got this one right on the money. It will end in fire. Whether by nuclear armageddon, cosmic radiation from a nearby supernova, or the sun eating the planet when it enlarges I do not know for sure.

EDIT: The sun is not going supernova folks! Go do your cosmology and astronomy homework!

After some research, this is indeed correct. Our sun is incapable of going supernova because it's mass is less than the Chandrasekhar mass (equal to approximately 1.4 suns) and it has no way to gain mass.

However, it will enlarge in a few billion years into a Red Giant, scorching most of the inner planets to a crisp.

Thanks for the bonk on the head and getting me to do a little research.
