umm it wouldn't let people who love one another do whatever the hell they want. It isn't your nor i's choice to decide what is wrong. and don't bother bringing up the bible i am very non-religious and find the idea of a god writing an instruction manual for life unappealing. Sorry to all those religious people. :/
It would affect me only bc my gf is one of those right winged ppl who believe that gay marriage would signal an end to the united states in such a profound way as no one would be able to recover. Besides her banter and subsequent arguments between her and myself when she notices I truly do not give a shit, it wont affect me too much...
Common belief says marriage is the spiritual union of a man and a woman. In turn those against it are not opposing the idea of gay rights altogether, but protecting a sacred tradition that's been existing for millenia. It's not restricted to religions whatsoever as marriage predates any of the modern faiths.
Unlike the right to vote a decision like this does not affect other people in any way whatsoever, which is why the former had a much bigger impact when women were given the right. Marriage between couples is a personal affair, yet has deep social connotations ingrained withing the human mind which will never leave.

Well, I live in Canada so gay people are actually allowed to get married up here. But I have a number of friends in the US. Anyway, aside from a few of those friends being allowed to marry the people they love, it wouldn't affect my life at all and I would be more than happy for my friends to be allowed to marry who they want.
I'd be grossed out on a more regular basis because I find any homosexual act gross more than I find the average human being. Complain about me whatever you want but thats how mind works as a human being just like peoples minds work differently.
Depending on what state I live in, it could make a world of difference, or none at all. If I intend to marry my girlfriend, it really depends on if they legally recognize me as male or not during various stages of my transition. If they don't, gay marriage would be a (somewhat awkward) necessity. Enough states would recognize me as a man to the point that it wouldn't be a problem.
Unless I hypothetically ended up with a man at a later point in life. I am bisexual. In which case, it would be a real big help for gay marriage to, you know, be legal.

Sadly though it's not really that rhetorical. There are loads of effects that can be gained by everyone if they thought about it. Hey, let's inject some more hypothetical thought into it. Most people say it wouldn't affect my life are really only saying it like that there wouldn't have any negative effects. What about the positive ones? Many school programs are in such distress that schools are closing and condensing. Unemployment is so drastic that unemployment agencies are extending coverage to 3 years when the US standard is 23 weeks to 1 year. They would all give either political or religious reasons, or they would say not at all as most have here.
