Advertising. I would advertise all of their main title efforts, and other major blockbusters (no more heroes, and ffs man they better advertise the conduit, but i guess that is down to SEGA) as well as their party games. It was perfectly fine for them to advertise what they did, look at sony and microsoft's half assed attempts at party games and what not, but they should expand it. Advertising has always been my main gripe with nintendo.

As for games, i'll wait. People complain when there is a dry spell and then nintendo whack them with a spate of great stuff, and come the first Q of 09 i'm definitely getting MadWorld and The Conduit, and a whole mess of other stuff when i get paid.

Also, what the hell is with all of the bloody talk of casual gamers and hardcore gamers when nintendo starts to cater to them? What happened to gamers? Back in the day gamers were the ones who completed FFX, and Hardcore gamers were the ones who finished FFX, beating all of the dark aeons and Penance. Hell you didn't even need to beat Penance, just everything else and you were hardcore.

Casual gamers were the ones who had a gameboy and played tetris or something that didn't require too much of their time. They were never talked about (they weren't even called casual gamers to me) but they were there. Now Nintendo caters to them as well as everyone else, everyone seems to have to distinguish themselves from them, just makes no sense.

Nintendo is creating fans, other companies aren't. Sony is only pandering to the hardcore gamers and this will fuck them in the end, eventually some of the gamers grow up, get jobs, a family, a dog and a house and unfortunately they have to leave their hardcore gaming hobby behind.

Mario is a great company mascot because he's kid friendly, little kids look up at his games and can relate with him. What mascots have kids look up to on the PS3 and the Xbox? Master Chief??! That nameless girl from FFXIII? I don't think so.
I agree wholeheartedly. And with that people, i present two links. One is a game overthinker episode, and the other is a rather long (but VERY interesting) article on nintendo's business tactic, and why it works so well and why copying it won't work.

Why fix something that is not broken?

Nintendo is the only gaming company that is actually selling their product right. They're branching out to a new demography and touching the younger and older players alike (that sounded wrong), or how people call them, the casuals.

Eventually casuals season out and turn into the hardcore gaming crowd, and then what will they remember first? That's right, the gaming company that took them when they were young and tought them how to game. The fanboy is created.

And what will happen when Nintendo "ditches" they're "hardcore" "fans" like they're "doing right now to their old fans"? (notice the overruse in quotations) If they do become "hardcore" gamers, they'll move on to more "hardcore" consoles or stick with "Nintendo" with "their loyalty" and "lovability" for "their lovable mascots". "Got it"? (okay, used a bit to much quotations there)

Atleast "Sony" knows their "target audience", the "techno-philies" an' all that, while "MS" is trying to "steal a piece" of "Nintendo's pie" for some reason. Then the whole "mascot" thing, and the "kids", and the "lovable!" stuff, and the "caters to kids!" crap, and the "kids kids kids!" stuff I hear from people, "yada-yada-yada". Sackboy is "lovable", and Master Cheif makes the kids feel like a "badass", so "there".

Okay, I'll stop using quotations.

Though I can't believe I'm the first one to say this but;

How to fix the Wii; Moar Zelda/Mario/Metroid titles! :D

They're being developed regardless of what we say, so I guess most figured there was no point in mentioning them. =P

For Zelda, Miyamoto mentioned even before Twilight Princess was released that TP would be the last of its kind, and the next Zelda would be radically different.

I'd fixing it by making it a 360.
So youd make it so it had no creative titles that you can't get elsewhere, let piss poor engineering pass and try to cover it up by offering bad games with good graphics cheaply?

Sorry I just had to.

How about give Miyamoto some nappy time? Seriously, the guy's got the eyes of child, but under those eyes are the bags of a 60 year old accountant and someone should've realized that something was seriously a miss when he pitched "Wii Music" Oh boy I would've liked to have been there for that one "Hey, I've got it, lets make rock band, but heres the twist, we remove all the awesome and fill it with a needless amount of in game instruments. Casual gamers will love it!"

I don't really know what casual gamers are anymore but I'm assuming its a small demographic of tone deaf mental patients who only play brightly colored cream puffs because the TV monster is scary and its the easiest transition from watching paint dry.

Also, WHY ARE THERE NO STEALTH GAMES FOR THIS SYSTEM YET?!? for the love of christ, the wii remote and nunchuck are perfect for motion controlled lock picking, aiming for lights (and unsuspecting guards) and sneaking up behind someone and stabbing said someone in the ribs. C'mon now, there has to be someone in the Nintendo arsenal who can man up and do this? Waluigi? Anyone?

Simple:

- Stop pandering exclusively to the lunatic fanboys that will buy -ANYTHING- with the Nintendo logo... They WILL buy anything with the Nintendo logo on it so those are always covered.

- Stop treating kids like retards and do GOOD games. A family friendly game doesn't have to be childish, and most certainly it does not have to be inherently stupid (although with today's examples one could be forgiven for thinking so). Series like The Simpsons and games like Little Big Planet prove family friendly doesn't equal pathetic and stupid. Off course, such things do require that the game designer actually works.

- Start using the Wii for all it's untapped potential and not as a giant gimmick. Here's a metric fuckton of good ideas you can use in your games [http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/projects/wii/]. USE THEM. Make the motion sensitive controllers a CORE part of gameplay and not an afterthought.

- Fix the goddamn motion controllers already...

In other words, Nintendo needs to start thinking with their brains instead of their rectums.

The Wii isnt broken. It makes alot of money for nintendo which is more than microsoft can say about the 360. However the wii probly doesnt appeal to alot of people on this forum because nintendo has moved into the realm of casual gaming. Games anyone and their mom can play, not just games for gamers.

everyone (XBOX 360, PS3 and Wii) should just connect with the New Xbox Live experience (which is a witty combination of all 3 services)
in the future, if there isn't a single, ultimate console out there, than I think at least the consoles will share the same software.

Make a Wii version of Super Punch Out, make an FPS with decent online support, and give me a sword fighting ga-

Oh...all should be out in 2009.

What's there to fix? It's already selling like legal crack.
I guess I understand what you're saying, but from a business standpoint, Nintendo doesn't have to do anything.

How would I fix the Wii? Simple, two words: Rifle controller... unless someone mentioned that already, I didn't read all the posts. But seriously, what could be better than aiming that good ole ironsight (or a CCO, even better!) at someone and hearing those thundering gunshots while a glorious blaze of golden 5.56 mm rounds thrust into another man's luscious flesh. A little too graphic? Oh well! That thought just did wonders for my bipolar disorder!

Fix the Wii?
Fix the best selling console of the current generation?
Remember kiddies, if you don't like something, it doesn't mmean that 34.55 million other people don't like it. For the record, I don't own a Wii but that's because I'm a student and therefore have little money which I don't want to blow it all on a system I don't really care about. It's not my thing but other people are all over it and good for them. But the figures don't lie, the Wii IS the best-selling console out there and that's all that matter to Nintendo.

One last thing...

I don't think a thread where you monumentally disrespect the majority of peoples belief system, insult their ways of life and thinking because they don't happen to believe in something you do could be classed and an intelligent discussion to be honest...

Well, obviously Nintendo doesn't really need to fix anything to sell more consoles.

But holy hell, their online system is beyond atrocious. I know they have this whole "we're trying to keep pedos away from your kids" motif going there, but they don't have to make it such a pain in the ass to use that you might as well not implement online play into your games to begin with.

Give us proper accounts; you don't need to have the system inform when somebody has added you to their friends list, if you're paranoid, but make it so that we don't have to add a randomized number when we want to add our friends. I stopped using ICQ exactly for that reason.

Then there's the horrible, horrible netcode. Mario Kart Wii was kind of laggy, but not cripplingly so. Then along came Brawl and it reminded me of the days when I accessed the intertubes with my 28.8k modem. So. Much. Lag. If you couldn't have a decent game with folks that were 100km away, there was no way the game was even playable when playing against random folks.

Yeah, get someone else to do your online system. The current one just doesn't cut it.

Ok first, I stated from the start that I don't think the Wii needs much fixing. Second you totally missed the point of the other thread. I am a christian and think Christianity has its major issues too, but I find some of the hypocrisies of Atheism funny especially since they tend to point to the hypocrisies of Christianity as the reason they don't think ANY supreme being is fathomable. And no statistically the majority of people on this planet are not Atheist. not that it matters but that is not the case.

It was an intellectual thread in terms of the comments that were put out there by people who read the whole thing, understood and posted accordingly rather than flying off the handle because they are not used to Atheism being treated like every other Religion.

As for this thread, Well some people think the Wii has issues they want fixed, this is the place to put your thoughts on that. I agree it needs little and is the best of the gen but still not everyone does.
