How would you have changed The Dark Knight Rises?

Personally, I would've killed off Batman at the end, but made it ambiguous (so I'd have the movie end at Alfred in the restaurant nodding, and then cutting to black and the credits roll). Blake wouldn't inherit the Batcave and take up Batman's mantle.

I'd give Selina Kyle more of a backstory and build her up as a character, rather than more of a plot device. There'd be no love interest this time, so no sexy time with either Talia al Ghul or Selina Kyle. And I'd have a better explanation for Bane's mask, as well as make his voice less muffled and tone down the exaggerated posh accent.

I'd also at least mention the Joker and give the Scarecrow a slightly bigger role, with his mask on too.

Agreement in better Bane backstory, like for instance including the mention of the venom steroid since... hey, the first movie had the fear gas. Why can't we add another made up chemical? It's kind pivotal to Bane's character, at least initially.

I wouldn't have had Talia overshadow Bane's role as main villain, and as a corollary to that, come up with a better motive than "we must fulfill the wishes of the man who tried to destroy our romance".

I just didn't like the Talia character in general, I guess. She was boring and uninteresting to me. I didn't buy that she'd have any reason to destroy gotham. I also kind of blame her for Bane fizzling by cat-gunfire rather than in a blaze of glory by bat-boot-to-ass

I went into this movie wanting one thing and one thing only. I didn't care about Bane, I didn't care about Catwoman, I didn't care about anything apart from this one thing.

I wanted Bruce Wayne dead. This is the logical conclusion to a gritty real Batman. And the name was perfect.

Bruce Wayne dies, John Blake takes over, and The Dark Knight Rises. Simple.

That was all I wanted. I walked out pissed off. This is the only thing I'd change because it was the only thing I cared about.

I would have made it a bit longer. Some parts felt a bit rushed but overall I thought it was a pretty fantastic movie to end one of my favorite trilogies with.

If nothing else, I'd have included a scene near the midpoint where Wayne's leg brace craps out on him, just to show that having the resources isn't enough.

I'd also like to have a scene with Commissioner Gordon interacting with his kids, just to show the passage of time (I admit that I got this part from Moviebob, but that doesn't make it wrong).

I probably would have killed Bruce Wayne too.

Take out the whole big twist at the end. Totally unnecessary. Blake's name should not be fucking "Robin". That's retarded.

There are plenty of other things that could use some work, but these two bugged me the most, so I'll leave it at that.
This. I realize it isn't common knowledge to know every Robin's name, but still you shouldn't try and make the audience gasp at something that isn't there. It was a Marvel reference that wasn't. There's no Batman named John Blake, there's no Robin named John Blake. He was OC for the movie and was absolutely unneccesary. I'm not saying I didn't like the character. I just didn't like the stupid twist.

Change it so it is clear how much time has passed. Make the prison live up to the description we were given. The batman gets beaten by Bane scene felt throwaway so I would change that. Final change would be a Bane shower scene.

Overall more show less tell.

Probably give more story to Catwoman. Also wanted Scarecrow to make a re-appearance, more then just being a judge. I liked how they moved Talia in the story, but I feel like she wasn't there enough, and they had the wrong character for her. If she was somehow roled in earlier, it would have been better.

The twist should have been that Superman was the real villain the whole time. And Batman beats the steel shit out of him with Kryptonite knuckles.

- Make the villains' motivations actually make sense, first and foremost. It feels like they're just trying to blow up Gotham to piss off Batman, and anything they say about "herp derp league of shadows" makes them feel either dumb or disingenuous(if they want to eradicate crime, why blow up a city with ~zero criminals?).
- Fix the pacing of the second half. Make the 5 months actually feel like 5 months, not like a couple of days.
- More Batman in a Batman-movie, and then Batman-scenes that FEEL like Batman-scenes.
- ..and way more Selina Kyle. She was the best thing about the movie for several reasons.
- Less explaining things, more showing things.
- THE PLOT TWIST WITH TALIA WAS FUCKING DUMB AND UNNECESSARY.

That's pretty much it.

This. So much this. I would've loved if his name would've been revealed as "Dick Grayson". Instead it was Robin and I had to end the great movie to a facepalm.

Bruce dead, Blake not becoming Batman, or change the "maybe try my birthname." to "Grayson" or "Drake". Change Bane's accent, either to the comic 'latin american' or just plain no accent. Venom as a supwer steroid, instead of some generic painkiller.

Drop the whole introduction where Bruce isn't Batman, it just makes the whole idea of it ending by him learning to not be Batman redundant. For that matter if he's going to retire he shouldn't do so on the strength of being the only person who stops Gotham being utterly destroyed. Kill him off and replace him with Drake? Fine, though the whole "you're Batman for a spurious reason" "Fine" segment needed serious work and I'd prefer Drake to be cut if they couldn't do better than that. Maybe Bruce could leave him the Batcave in his will after seeing some potential earlier in the film?

Oh and at the very least give Bane some subtitles, the whole "Chewbacca as a main enemy in the series" is a bit weird. Just where did everyone learn to be an expert in over-distorted gibberish?

I think if they ended it with the totem spinning, Alfred's plot wouldn't have closed as well as it did. Also I love that the first movie is about Bruce Wayne becoming Batman, and the other two, are about Batman becoming Bruce Wayne.
Well, I loved the Scarecrow scenes, and thought it was at a perfect amount. Mentioning the Joker wouldn't be a good move. I would have given Commissioner Gordon more screen time. Since, you know, he's a badass and a renegade and shits.
Edit:

They were doing all of that to piss off Batman. Batman scenes were abundant, as Batman began to dress up as Bruce Wayne after the first movie. I liked the plot twist, because I didn't wan't Batman to escape with Catwoman, so I was effected. I liked the ending as well and really liked Catwoman's assertiveness in her character, it acted as a good foil to Batman's usual plan/rational approach to crime-fighting. I also just want to say that the war in the streets degrading into a fist fight was amazing. I saw it as everybody who was fighting for Gotham kinda became The Batman. Taking charge as the defenders of Gotham.

1: Change the opening, have Gordon talk about Harvey's heroism while showing clips from TDK of him being evil and show Gordon's (now mid-late teens) children watching the speech on TV.

2: Get rid of Talia Al-Ghul.

3: fix the whole "learning to be Batman twice" thing.

4: Maybe have everything that happens in the first half of the film be almost like "flashbacks" (Bruce wasn't there to remember half the stuff) explaining how he got into the prison in the first place? (just an idea). Maybe that would make it feel more like five months in the prison.

5: Get rid of the whole "Robin" thing. The John Blake thing is good, and should have been more prominent, but that's just a bit dumb.

6: Cut out the shot of Bruce and Selina from the ending. Leave it ambigous. I hate how he got such a cop-out "happily ever after" ending. Especially considering there's no way he could have escaped the batwing in time to get out of the blast radius. (and don't gimme that "autopilot" shit, we cleraly saw him in there as the bomb was seconds from going off.)

Personally, I would of changed almost everything about the movie.

At the end of the Dark Knight Batman rides off, okay, now 8 years later of not being batman and suddenly he has no cartilage in his knees? Brooding as a cripple old man? He had maybe 4 years of actually being batman before retiring because his hope-to-be girlfriend died? That isn't Batman. And as soon as they announced he has no cartilage in his knees *or elbows* he rappels down a wall, *and later climbs one* both without the brace (that somehow lets you kick through concrete).

Catwoman was completely wasted as a plot device rather than a character. I was actually pleased on how she performed AS Catwoman, but she has no backstory at all and no reason to be in the film.

Bane, since when was he in the league of shadows? Or even closely related to it? Since when was he Mideastern and not South American? Since when did he become Talias Flunky?

Talia, she was actually a TRUE romantic link to Bruce Wayne, since when was she just out to avenge daddY? Or even blow up a city? Horrible death scene by the way.

Jon Blake? Robin? Wha??? Okay, how is a cop suppose to take over after Bruce Wayne with no money, no training and no resources? Really? Batman was reduced to a "symbol" rather than it actually being Bruce Wayne?

How did Bruce Wayne get back into Gotham? Or even Back to the U.S. after he climbed the wall with no cartilage in his knees?

How did he even have time to create a bat symbol on the side of a building with only a little time to spare?

And running off into the sunset with Catwoman? ..uhhh....what?

I know..huge rant. But this movie is the epitome of what is WRONG in Hollywood when adapting franchises. They just take characters that are already established and they completely change them until they lose the spirit of the original. I had no problem with a more realistic take on Batman, but at least give the man a career of being batman. Here we have a batman who never fought penguin or riddler. Two face lasted for maybe a day before dieing. In fact, his whole career consisted of training as a ninja, stopping a giant microwave, stopping the joker with cell phones, and coming out of a depression to stop bane from blowing up gotham. That is all batmans career consisted of before losing his wealth and handing the "mantle" of the "dark knight" over to some dude who just kinda "figured out" who batman was because he looked into his eyes.

It just pissed me off to holy hell how they set up the first two movies as decent batman movies and then just failed hard by straying as far as they could from the characterization of Batman.

Just my opinion.
