How would you have responded to this provocation?

I'd try to reason with him, get into an interesting conversation.

Then I'd find the car he drives and slit his tires open.

I would've ignored the douchebag. Why should you give a shit what he thinks? If he sees you don't care, he'll give up.

I was at a college football game today with a girl I've recently started dating, and I was wearing the rival team's colors because I like that team. Now I naturally expected some shit talk for doing so, but what ended up happening was the entire first half a fan from the home team pelted me with ice and popcorn. When I asked him to stop, he told me to **** off. He kept doing it, and the girl asked me "aren't you gonna get him to stop?" I confronted him again, yelling at him that he wouldn't be throwing anything if his friends weren't around to back him up, and he said "you ain't gonna do crap you skinny ***got." I gave him the finger and walked away.

I didn't want to get in a fight because I didn't want to get thrown out of the stadium or arrested by security, but now I feel embarrassed and totally emasculated in front of this girl. I feel like guys think its okay to start shit with me because I have a skinny build (6'1, 160 lbs), and they think I won't fight back. It happens quite often when I play basketball or go out to bars
People never learn, it's not the big tough guys to watch out for, the offendable wiry kid is. Snap his temper, and he'll snap your neck.
I know this is slightly off topic, but if you're in a fight with a pacifist, watch your ass, cos he's making a special exception.

I'm not... sure. People don't cause me trouble in the real world because I look like someone who actually would do something crazy if they pissed me off. That has served me very well. As for what I would have done in that situation... I probably would have taken his popcorn or something just short of actually smacking him. Let him make the first aggressive move after that.

I wouldn't have yelled, but I would've handled it much the same otherwise. Then again I have a pretty scary glare(never seen it myself but it scares children so...) so my voice wouldn't even need to be used. I'd tell him to stop, then move or leave. Also, if she doesn't still respect you for not going violent, then she doesn't respect who you are.

Funny thing about my glare if I may exposit:
I've been told about my glare all my life, but never seen it. Mostly because I'm never within reach of a mirror when I'm pissed. Anyway, once during an argument my uncle tackled me to the ground because I was giving him the glare. He's known me for YEARS-long enough for him to know by now I'm a pacifist-and claims to this day he did it because it looked like I was going to murder him. WTF?

I don't mean to argue, but most people would take snatching popcorn out of their hands an aggressive move, especially if they're already emotional. Just saying, that might be what turns it into a fight.

i would have walked up and spit in his face. if i had a dring id throw that on him. its physically impossible for him to resist taking a swing at you if you do that.

i dont think i would like fighting on some stadium seats. i have the same build as you, but even skinnier. i make up for it with good footwork, fast hands, good kicks and decent submission skills. i wouldnt care about his friends, 9 out of 10 times they arent going to get involved. impressing the girl just barely tips me over the point where im willing to take those odds.

people allways overlook the adrenaline dump. a lot depends on how well you deal with that. this is the main reason his friends arent likely to get involved. if they dont actually fight all the time, they are going to choke, and since they were never expected to fight in the first place, their instinct is to punk out. if your opponant was truely expecting you not to fight, he is going to be surprised. a lot of people who act like that have never even fought before. their behavior is a both defence mechanism and an attempt to mimic the alpha male attitude, in order to attract females (which works). if you can get yourself psyched up for the fight, or even go as far as going to the bathroom or somewhere else to stretch out, maybe even get a little bit of adrenaline out of your system before it starts, you will have a great advantage. when you confront him, he should be surprised enough that he will not only have a more severe adrenaline dump, but he may be plagued with indecision for most of the fight.

or he will just ko the shit out of you. thats probably how a street fight would actually end up panning out for me.

I would've said "Wait a minute, what the hell am I doing here? I hate football." And then I would have left. This is a serious response, I have amazing self control for this kind of stuff, i'm amazed I haven't flipped out and beaten the shit out of someone yet.

I admit I don't really know how to handle these sorts of situations. People don't do stuff like this to me. Ever.

You did the best thing. I take 2 martial arts work out and spar consistently, and I still would have walked away. At the absolute best you could've beaten him to a pulp, at the worst you would've, either way you're lowering to his level.
Now if he put a hand on you, then you've got rights to defend yourself, otherwise, just ignore it. Children forever will be children.

1) Congratulations for walking away and not dropping to his level.

2) The girl should see that and think better of you, not worse. If she doesn't, fuck it, she's not for you.
This.
I could never do that myself, I'd jump them.
More or less this. I stopped taking shit like this in high school. Never again, i would have told them that they were either going to stop, or I was going to stop them. Then, if they continued, i would have locked his fingers until he either gave up, or his fingers poped out of socket.

In my opinion, any girl that expects me to fight just because she's around can get the fuck out, because that's not what this man is about.
