1) Congratulations for walking away and not dropping to his level.

2) The girl should see that and think better of you, not worse. If she doesn't, fuck it, she's not for you.
^^This.

Which is more important, your male ego, or risking facing assault charges, or risking serious harm from him?

I wouldn't have been in the situation in the first place, as I think sports are silly and so do not attend sporting events. But even if I was attending one for some unknown reason, that scenario would still not have arisen because I don't own any sports-related clothing items, and therefore I wouldn't give the drunken louts who attend sporting events any reason to pay attention to me. So basically I'd do nothing, because this is never going to happen, whee!

You got what you should have expected.

You don't show up to a stadium and root for the opposing team, and only someone looking to pick a fight would do it so flamboyantly. Hey everyone look at me in the opposing teams gear, does that piss you off? I would have never guessed that it would.

I don't wear atheist shirts in church, and I don't go to stadiums dressed up in the other teams jersey and sit in the home team section either.

PS: Yes the chick probably thinks less of you now for rooting for the wrong team and then making her leave in shame, but you could have avoided it by wearing a different shirt. Too bad.
to be honest you sound like a bit of a dick. i mean that in the nicest way possible. you should be able to go to a game in what ever colours you want. name calling is ok but having ice and popcorn thrown at you is abit rude.

you are whats wrong with sports nowadays. its not about violence its about fun and a little bit of rivalry. you shouldnt be physically assualted for supporting a different team.

That's what security is for. Have him ejected.
Pretty much this. Dicks like the guy mentioned ruin the game for everyone. Give him the punishment he deserves.

Also, you may want to learn from this experience, and think twice before dressing in opposing team colors. I know you like that team, but you HAD to realize you were setting yourself up for trouble.

This.
If the girl honestly thought you weren't "manly," then, trust me, she's not worth the time. A girl with that sort of attitude will drop you anyway when the next asshole with more testosterone walks by.

If he was close enough when he threw the stuff I would have punched his face in. People can talk shit all day and I'll shrug it off but if someone invades my personal space, be it themselves or something they've thrown, it's rage time.
Trust me, I was itching to hurl him down three flights of bleachers, but the problem is I'm worried as hell I'll get arrested. I'm in law school and we have to report any run-ins with the law, however small, to the Bar Examiners, and that can mess with my chances getting admitted to the Bar after I graduate. Also, self-defense is almost impossible to prove, even with witnesses. You basically need video evidence
Damn. Now we know why Daredevil is the luckiest lawyer ever. He gets to practice law, and afterward, kick @ss. I think there's something to be said about masked vigilantism. ^_^

But yeah, that guy wasn't worth it, and if that girl is under the mistaken impression that *not* reacting like a douche is weakness, then she's not the type of girl you should be going out with. I would usually encourage you to follow the Dark Side, but not at risk to your future. You did the right thing, and it feels infuriating not to have thrown that douche off the stand, but...damn, that's infuriating.

If the girl doesn't understand that any scuffle you get into endangers your chances to practice law, then she's probably the type of girl who thinks not using a condom every once and a while won't get her pregnant.

If the girl has a problem with an adult (you) acting like an adult, she's not mature enough to be worth your time. Failing to protect someone who's under assault or failing to protect yourself when legitimate harm's being done to you? That's emasculating. Turning the other cheek against some fuckwit? Different story.

Well, my first thought would be to take his popcorn and throw it on the ground. Solves the problem, and has deniability if he tries to start a fight. Say it was an accident.

Side note: IS THIS OR IS THIS NOT HOW YOU SPELL "DENIABILITY"??!!! FUCKING PIECE OF ASS SPELL CHECKER!!!

.....I should go to sleep.

Sir Brawndo should have just informed security that the little **** was disruptive and being a nuisance. They would have hauled that punk's ass away and there would have been no buts about it. It's critical to know when to ignore antagonism and when to stand against it, especially when it's occurring in a public setting. The situation described definitely would have warranted use of the latter action.

I was at a college football game today with a girl I've recently started dating, and I was wearing the rival team's colors because I like that team. Now I naturally expected some shit talk for doing so, but what ended up happening was the entire first half a fan from the home team pelted me with ice and popcorn. When I asked him to stop, he told me to **** off. He kept doing it, and the girl asked me "aren't you gonna get him to stop?" I confronted him again, yelling at him that he wouldn't be throwing anything if his friends weren't around to back him up, and he said "you ain't gonna do crap you skinny ***got." I gave him the finger and walked away.

I didn't want to get in a fight because I didn't want to get thrown out of the stadium or arrested by security, but now I feel embarrassed and totally emasculated in front of this girl. I feel like guys think its okay to start shit with me because I have a skinny build (6'1, 160 lbs), and they think I won't fight back. It happens quite often when I play basketball or go out to bars
Guys who do that are usually complete pussies. They only do it because it makes them look tough infront of their friends. And they tend to have a pack mentality like lesser animals. Sports-fans in general are degenerates and inbred retards. But still, if yer on a date with a girl. Dont wear any type of team-colours. It's not worth it. Other then that, if yer in the US. Get a gun. Cuz if they start a fight you can gun them down and claim you were fighting for your life as there was many of them and you thought they were going to kill you ;)

Sports fans can be rabid. Wearing the rival teams colours in the wrong place in the UK theres a high probability you WILL get killed.
That's 'cause you Brits is crazy. Also, knife violence isn't as problematic in the U.S. and shooting someone over football (American) would somehow be more psychotic than beating or stabbing someone for football (British).
I'm not a sports fan so I don't really understand how someone could be so in love with a game they would be willing to hurt and sometimes even kill people for supporting another team. I'm just glad guns aren't as readily available in the UK. if they were we'd be in serious trouble!! but back to the point while he did knowingly wear the rivals colours the guy throwing stuff was clearly a dick showing off to his mates so fighting would have been pointless! Sure it hurts your pride but at the end of the day we're suppose to be civilized creatures who avoid unnecessary conflict! unlike this lot

I would have walked away. Though my reasoning is that, I have yet to come to an agreement with myself upon an appropriate reaction.

would not work.
He would sooner laugh at you for trying to be vocal while he's throwing popcorn.
Then I'd give him a great big hug and confuse his little macho brain.

I would have enjoyed the game, then afterwards, I would have found him in the lot and said, "We obviously have some hostility issues to work out." Then I would have proceeded to kick his teeth in.
