How would you improve Pokemon

Many of the suggestions to improve the story or your interaction with your avatar and your Pokemon sound good but none of them address the problems with combat which is in my opinion two simple. With one Pokemon getting Approximately one move, with no movement at all making any allowable depth purely mathematical and not tactical.

Their are two directions I can see you going with the combat to improve it. The first if you want to keep in the standard structure of the game is to go with action combat and allow you to directly control the Pokemon. That probably makes if a have appeal to a different type of gamer than the current fan.

The other option I see working well, possibly just because its what I would love to play(not that I would not enjoy action Pokemon.[Lets make it an aside inside and aside inside an aside.]), would be Pokemon tactics. Gird or distance based turn based battles on a field with multiple Pokemon fighting at once.

I find it hard to emotionally bond with a single, tiny sprite with numbers attached to it.

Well, based on what I liked about pokemon (and wanted in the game) as a kid, I'd say dynamic monster ecology, less focus on the story (seriously, kids are just there to catch pokemon), less grinding, and better AI. Possibly a bigger world, too - I remember that I was pretty psyched when the map was twice as large as I thought it was in gold/silver.

I would like more dynamism in battles. The pokemon should actually move around the battlefield instead of cycling through animations.

I would also like to see a big RPG on a console and a brawler in the vein of Smash Bros. where you had every pokemon at your disposal and could level them up through their evolutions.

I've never been a fan of turn-based combat, so what if they made it like Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, where you could dodge and counter enemy attacks? And for multiplayer, you just fight the other players old school.

I breed about 50 Remoraid that could shoot electricity out their mouths and released them into a nearby lake once. I often wonder about how that would affect the local wildlife.

Just a tad better graphics and maybe more end game content. I really like pokemon as it is so I don't really mind though.

If they wanted to be really bold maybe shake up the gym system, say instead of having gyms we have challenge areas we the leader specializes in a specific form of tactics, like stall or sweepers.

I'd like the ability to customize your player character. Frankly I'd like a chance to give your player character more to do, maybe a chance at characterization with things like dialogue trees. I'm not expecting a Bioware style story, but maybe something that felt a bit more involved than some blank slate wandering into Team Rocket/Magma/Plasma's plans.

A real time battle system might be nice, although it would probably be a nightmare to create with the the number of Pokemon and moves. So frankly I think a turn-based system is probably the best for the series. If I were to revise the current battle system I'd probably try to speed things up a bit and display the amount of damage a move will do beforehand.

Also, remove random battles! I'd probably like something similar to the battle system in the World Ends With You where the player character can choose when to enter encounters.

actual combat, side scroll style sorta like Smash Brawl, or better yet like the old Snes game Tales of Phantasia. the 4 move concept of every Pokemon game even works with the idea too. that would be waayyy more fun and entertaining.

also it would be nice for newer pokemon to look more like its gen 1 and 2 style, they look like actual animals that could exist, the newer pokemon look plastic and cheap, expecially black and white to my dismay :(

Guys guys guys. OBVIOUSLY what we need is a mystery dungeon game with the graphics of pokepark, have the dungeons be on the weird grid thing, make a top down option to toggle on/off and make moving about outside of dungeons like pokepark. I think we could eventually ditch the trainers of the whole traditional games and just focus on mystery dungeon. the mystery dungeon universe is a lot more interesting Imo

Make sure that everyone outside Japan gets the same events. I'd throw a nerd into Vesuvius just to get an event Darkrai.
Do you live in the States or Europe? There is a Darkrai event RIGHT NOW until June 10.

On-topic: Gen 2 and Gen 4 were really fun for having a second region to explore after the primary game. Getting to see older regions in a modern cartridge is nifty.

My primary annoyance with pokemon has always been that only 3-5 mons appear in each area, so you have the same fights over and over and over. I remember getting sick of caves in gen 1 and the inevitable onslaught of zubat and geodudes. That really hasn't changed. But now there's +500 more mons, so... why not just work them into the rotation? Have 10+ enemies per area for more variety? Make a collecting player be able to actually get them all with 2 games again, instead of 2 of each generation, and it makes the game less grindy and more rewarding at once!

A more intelligent plot, deeper characters, a speaking protagonist, would all be nice but are less important to me.

character creation is really all that needs to be there (for me anyways). That and a better multiplayer thing and the ability to call people you've met that aren't currently online like they could have done with the c gear.

Open world, where you start in the middle of a big map or something, and you can then go in any direction and do gyms or dungeons or whatever in any order you wanted. having all pokemon be attainable somehow would be great, and all the old legendaries could be found through some new quest structure which would break up the traditional gym battle sequence.

Maybe there could be some advantage to specialize your team, like how every gym leader sticks with one type despite how vulnerable that team is. Maybe if you built an all fire team, then there would be some synergy system at play which would give you some benefit to compensate for the lack of diversity.

Speed up battle big time. B/W was an improvement over D/P, but still so so slow. I shouldn't have to wait ten seconds for a chansey's long ass health bar to drain after a critical hit. A big thing would be the option to turn off the "wild rattata appears! go weedle! *weedle makes a sound*" sequence.

I've had this idea about a game that features every region. You start in sort of a neutral place and then go off to your first region of choice. You get the starter from there and travel throughout the routes and towns and eventually defeat the Pokémon League there, thus earning a trophy. There would obviously have to be some changes with the Kanto and Johto leagues, or possibly a merging of them. After you get the trophy, you return to the neutral area with your Pokémon. However, in order to go to the next region you must leave the Pokémon you have caught in a special PC that can only be accessed from regions you have beaten. You then travel through the second region with a whole new starter and other Pokémon. This repeats until you've beaten every region, at which point you can access the world Pokémon championship with your best and brightest Pokémon from every region.

In essence, I just want a game that features every region.

Being console compatible would be nice. I'd like to port my pokemon into the Wii-U and exploring different areas. Also a system where a pokemon is more like your pet or friend, not just a sprite with a stat sheet.

More than one save game

proper 3d battles like pokemon stadium

Actual characters that people will give a shit about

A new story that actually carries on after you beat the league

a world/land that is actually in proportion with the size of the cities.

Some bold new ideas to break the mould a bit, like post apocalyptic setting or something.

Scrap the over used evil team theme, and get in something that is an actual threat to something, other than than pokemon.
