Ok, so i was having a discussion over a few games with some friends of mine, and we were discussing the word "Melee" but he pronounced it funny, so my question to you is this. Do you pronounce it "Mee-Lee" or "May-Lay" i myself pronounced it "May-Lay" where as he said "Mee-Lee" so which one do you choose?

May - Lay sounds French (better).

On a similar note, can everyone start pronouncing plaid as plade so I'm not the only one.

May-Lay for sure.

Also, you should include the pronunciation Mel-lay. I've heard it said that way plenty of times.

I asked my mom about this once, since I'm fairly certain the origins of the word are French. Cheese eating surrender monkeys though they may be, we could at least have the decency to pronounce the word properly. She took French, and said it's pronounced "may-lay" and not the tard sounding "mee-lee". Just my two cents.

I've heard both used, and actually use both pronunciations myself for some weird reason... I'd say I use Maylay more often though.

I'd probably say "meh-lay".

It probably depends on where you come from (accent, etc).

Edit: I would pronounce it that way anyway, regardless of the above posts...

I used to say Meelee, along with all my little friends, and we were happy. Then I looked it up, and learned it was Maylay. I considered pronouncing it wrong on purpose (like I do with tomato), but gave in to being correct. Some days I'm still unsure if I made the right choice...

I actually do say meh-lay... mee-lee seams like when kids pronounce things just the way they see them.

No offense intended to anyone who pronounces it that way though.

Now Im thinking about it too much and it's become one of those words that loses all meaning after a while.
