Human verification is the bane of my existence

So recently I've been playing a game, when I had to change PC's. No big deal, the game asked me to complete a "simple" human verification process. That's all fine and well, but when I got around to solving it, it was an indistinguishable pile up of letters. Surprise surprise, I failed 3 times, so they locked out my account. Fine...I thought, might as well go to customer support. And what did I have to do? Letter salad of course! I had to do human verification to verify that I did my human verification, and I kept failing that as well. I literally sat there, palms in my face pondering about the situation I got myself into.

Long story short. Who hates those annoying checks, especially the lazy ones, where they take a few letters and smudge them beyond recognition?

Human verification is for scum that are too lazy to properly manage their own services. The content on the site has to be damn good or the verification to be relatively simple for me to actually deal with that shit.

Luckily the escapist comes under both and doesn't require it each time to post.

No, but it's often enough to be annoying. I have 12,000 posts. Am I human yet?

Usually you can request to change the image of the letters/numbers you are offered an indefinite amount of times. Isn't that the same with whatever game you tried to verify?

If you can't pass the human verification, maybe you're not actually human?

I tried that a few times, but it still gave ridiculously difficult patterns to guess. And if I were to mistype one letter, it was all over

I thought about that myself...what is..to be human...is it solving captcha?

I hate when they're case sensitive and you can't tell if it's a lowercase l, a number 1 or an uppercase I. So annoying.

It would really be awesome for the Escapist to have it to where any user above 100 posts won't have to do a captcha.

I love those captchas that require you to type characters that either are not in the alphabet or have accents. So helpful, I'm glad they check this shit, because what if one day I'm not a human? -______-

Speaking of stupid security systems, Origin keeps telling me that I am logged on on another machine.

So either the service is fucked or I am being hacked.

~yay~

Well most distinguish humans from animals by intelligent faculties.

Perhaps this should be the litmus test-- if you can't do captcha, you 'aint human.

SPAMMY BIT REMOVED
Ha, the irony of there being a spammer on this thread xD

OT: I'm rarely on pages that require that kind of verification myself, but yeah the captcha's are getting ridiculous.

A pet peeve of mine is when I'm logged in on Steam and I want to check out the store page for a game I already own, to see if there's DLC listed or whatever, and they ask me for my age. I OWN THE GAME YES I AM OLD ENOUGH.

Your anger is suspect... Please verify that you are classified as human and customer support will be with you shortly.

I remember the first time I ever ran into one of those; I'd been a member of FanFiction.net for a few years, they never had those before, and I wasn't internet savvy at the time, so I really thought it was trying to creep me out for no reason. It worked. Now that I know better, its still annoying that its kinda necessary evil to begin with.

No. You are just the cutting edge of artificial intelligence until 100K posts.

I'm currently locked out of Starcraft 2 because Blizzard decided to lockdown my account and I can't remember my secret question. Thankfully they seem to reset the prompt every few hours so I could probably keep guessing until I get it, but I haven't felt the need to play that game in a while so it doesn't bother me to much.

Well, I have to do a bunch of those captcha regularly for the bonuses for some online I play, and they've found a way to combine two of the most hated things on the internet, those stupid mixed up letter tests, and adverts, I have to watch a 30 second advert before I'm even allowed to take the test.

If this were a true test of humanity the correct answer would be to scream in primal rage and throw your computer from the nearest window, fortunately most of these ads can be skipped/muted but its only a matter of time I fear before that is no longer the case. The tests where the letters are completely illegible makes me wonder which half blind midget actually came up with them.

Another annoying one I've come across is where I have a time limit to complete it before it expires, and that ones particularly notorious for having dark writing on a dark background, its like searching for a black cat in a coal cellar.
