Hey guys, I recently found out about Humans Vs Zombies through the new trailer, and was wondering, does anyone have any idea of where I could hold it? I am a high school kid in the Hamilton, Ontario area, and I plan to get a bunch of people together over March Break for 5 days of zombie mayhem. I might set up some tents to watch some old zombie movies and stuff like that, and it would have to be like a sleepover thing. So any thoughts guys?

See if a local forest/ nature park will let you, and maybe advertise at local community centers and such. If you're gonna use a park, remember to set up signs and such so that people don't call the cops on a bunch of people running around moaning and "shooting" each other.

It's mostly just common sense.

Edit: If it's a success, you can maybe set something up with a local paintball group? You could use their fields and make it a big Halloween thing? Another idea.

Could I do it at a public park? Because I have one place in mind.

No clue. Set it up with whoever runs the park, of course. Make sure you have permission.

Call the parks officials, but the more forest and things they have to hide in the better :3

The problem with doing a game of HvZ in a public park is the lack of safe zones. It's mostly played on college campuses and military bases, and it's because in both cases, the players live there, so they have plenty of safe zones, they have access to food, they have reasons to enter and leave the safe zones, and most importantly, they are actually in the play area for the majority of the 100 hours. You couldn't get your highschool to okay a game during the last week of class, could you? In my experience, nothing gets done during that week anyway.

I plan on doing it in Gage Park, for it is a big area, and would offer lots of hiding spots and places to stay

Well, people would bring their own tents and food,m and there are some places to get food near by too, It isn't during the last week of school, and it won't be sanctioned by the school, just a couple of friends help modding it, and we would be staying there for the week

If you do this, and do not provide pics......we will be sad. This sounds fun.
I will try as hard as I can to get pics, and if any lives in or near the Hamilton area, and wants to join, then you can just go to the group we will set up if this works out and sign up

That just might work. One suggestion; Make a clear perimeter around the camping area, within which the entire area is considered a safe zone. You might want to also do this for, say, any playground equipment or concession stands in the park. Also, it's not standard in the rules, but you might want to make seperate camp grounds for humans and zombies, and extend the stun time after being tagged by a zombie to last until the tent is moved from the Human camp to the Zombie camp.

On college campuses, it's usually good enough just to make the buildings on campus safe zones, and allow humans and zombies to live together, but in this case, having Humans and Zombies live together would give an even stronger advantage to the zombies than they're supposed to have. The idea behind the game is that everyone is a zombie at the end, allowing everyone to win -- so that advantage is pretty strong to begin with.

I would most likely set them at opposite sides of the park, and use pylons to mark off the safezone, but we might include playground equipment in the game, as long as their is no kids, I won't have it as a safezone, it could lead to some interesting tactics, and I do enjoy the tent stun idea.
EDIT: We would also be using all the Nerf weapons a person could get, but they have to buy their own. We also include socks and marshmallows
EDIT:Alright, we now have 4 people help modding it, so this might work

I think so, didn't say anything in the rules against it, anyone here know about this?

Under standard HvZ rules, Nerf melee weapons are okay. We couldn't use them at the game I just played, but it was because they had been banned by the University's administration after complaints from the game before.

Why were they banned?

I was going to a different school when they played the first game, but my understanding is that the players got too rough with them, and there were enough complaints that the administration banned them. For this term's game, they also had nerf banned except in nerf zones, which were mostly the parking lots and fields in the residential areas on campus -- and then they made it against the rules to have them visible in dorms, classrooms, or dining halls.

The idea behind that one was that, for some stupid reason, they were afraid a campus cop might get confused by the bright yellow blob of plastic, and think he had an armed suspect on his hands. Which brings me to an important point -- it's against the official HvZ rules to modify the guns. There's two things they're trying to prevent, here. The more minor one is modding the guns to shoot farther by removing the air restrictors and upgrading the springs, which can make getting hit at close range much more painful. The one that is actually a safety concern is painting the guns a color that isn't clearly fake. Spraypainting the things black is a big no-no, no matter where you're playing.

Alright, but should we allow Nerf melee weapons, I mean, what do they even have, in terms of type?

All I can really say on that front is that they are legal within the framework of the game -- like I said, I wasn't involved in last year's game, so I know nothing about them.

Here's [http://humansvszombies.org/] a link to the official site. It contains rules, forums, even a system you can use to keep track of who's human and who's zed. It should be more helpful than I can be -- I've only played once, and I didn't help organize it.
