[HEADING=1]HUNT FOR THE RIPPER[/HEADING]​

The year is 1888, during a surprisingly cold November. The city of London, England is gripped in fear as the sixth victim of notorious serial killer, Jack the Ripper is found in her apartment in the dark depths of London. Beggars and working girls stick together by night, frightened that they too might be next. The police are baffled and the public is in an outcry.

Something must be done. Experts need to be brought in.

The call goes out from the Chief of Police the next day. Anyone who has experience in law enforcement, criminal investigations and tracking down fugitives for help in tracking down the elusive killer. A conference is to be held, on the 26th of November to test those who wish to take part of the Ripper Task Force.

Meanwhile, a killer watches from the shadows, his eyes looking up at the Chief of Police as he proposes the task force. A smile grows on the mans lips as he claps heartily with the rest of the crowd. He is pleased with the announcement. He'd never killed a cop before...at least, not yet

Spoiler: Important Notes and Rules

- While you do not have to know everything about what was going on in London in the 1880's, some basic knowledge on the time period is required for this RP to run smoothly

- This is a mature, serious RP. While humor between characters is allowed, the tone is dark and gritty so keep that in mind. Random jokes, internet/video game references and general goofiness will be frowned upon

- Proper grammar and spelling is a must. No 1337 speak or 'lol'

- A user group will be created and all OOC chatter will be kept in the user group.

- No one line responses. If your in a conversation with someone you need to write more than just: "That sounds good" John replied

- This will be a relatively slow paced RP, as I have college during the day. That said, I will make at least one post per day

- I expect the character sheets to be fairly detailed

- Character death will happen

- My word is law

Spoiler: How it will work

As a mystery RP, it will be up to the players to solve the case and capture Jack the Ripper. This will be done by investigating crime scenes, finding witnesses and suspects as well as going on patrol.

While I won't be in charge of any character in the squad, I will be taking the role of all NPCs. Therefore it is up to the players themselves to decide what course of action would be best at what time.

Crime Scenes

When a crime has been committed, the task force will have a set number of in game time to investigate the scene before the Police take over. The task force will have first dibs and determine whether or not the crime itself or any of the clues found at the scene are important. You will be helped along with the 'Case File' tab which will keep track of all clues and witnesses you find.

For example, a prostitute has been found stabbed to death in Whitechapel, her money purse missing. Police think because it was Jack the Ripper because the last 6 killings have been in the Whitechapel area. Do you investigate? No. The reason being that her money purse is missing, as Jack never stole anything from his victims, other than there organs.

You will almost always have enough information on hand to make a decision of which crime scenes are important to investigate, but sometimes you will need to take chances as Jack's killing patterns change...

Finding Witnesses and Suspects

No special rules here. Head over to the suspects residence or last known address and fan out to find them. Sometimes a fight will ensue and other times they will come quietly. Be careful though, some people are very well connected and will cause trouble to your investigation.

Patrol
At the end of the day, choose an area for you and the task force to patrol. Sometimes you'll run into valuable allies, dangerous enemies or nothing at all. You'll make your selections from a main map that will be avilable at the start of every patrol section

A tab that keeps track of everything from clues to suspects.

Appearance: Black hair, brown eyes, Just under 5'10'' tall. He wears a button up black fleece jacket and brown pants. In his pocket, is a gold pocket watch which was his grandfathers before he died. He has Italian wingtips for shoes. He has no distinguishing features, just another face in the crowd.

Personality: He prefers to be with a small team. He is calm under pressure and believes violence as the last resort. But he has no need for a personal life.

Equipment: He has a five shot revolver in case he needs to. He has a kit of magnifying glass, tweezers, and notepad.

Experience: He has been a detective for nearly 10 years. With a higher than average success in his cases, he is a celebrity in his field.
Why are you here?He has been a detective for the city of Manchester and he is always pushing his skills to catch the most dangerous prey, humans. With reports of murders in London, he requested a period of leave to hunt the murder down.

Bio: Born to a sherif, you could say that Walter's fate was sealed. When he was old enough, he joined the police academy and quickly became a detective. Not wanting to be stuck in one place for to long, he frequently transfers to different cities to help hunt down any criminals that he deems worthy of his attention. He isn't in it for the fame, it is more like a hobby.

Well I can't just 'change' it. I have an idea, and I'm running with it. Heck, I haven't even revealed everything thats going on inside my RP so assuming that our RPs are 'exactly the same' isn't true

Sorry to say, but RPs are on a "First Come, First Serve" basis. Quad doesn't have do anything. But I don't think that there being two similar ideas would be too much of a problem. Just go with your idea and don't bring attention to the similarity of these two.

I feel like you took my idea from this and changed it a little, that's all. And I'm posting my rp up in November, so it will look like I copied you, can you do me a favor and explain that I'm running my own idea and aren't coping you because that would prevent a lot of confusion.

Okay, let me just say this. Yes, I read your idea. There are just similarities. His is just based of the Jack the Ripper killings. Yes he may have similar things such as a investigation group and keep things we find out for us and all, but unlike you he does not have a shop where you can buy things. Not to mention that the plot is completely different and that there are artifacts. The only thing I can see you worry about is just that the way to find the person who did it (Jack the Ripper) is pretty much the same. Other than that... really, don't worry. It's different enough to stand on its own. You two don't have to change anything. Now, I'm not going to say anything else about this from this point on. I've said what I want to say and that's all that I need to say. I hope you can see my point.

@i don't know: Dude, chill out. A lot of RPs look similar and it isn't something to get angry about.
Also, advertising a thread in someone's RP isn't exactly good etiquette around here, neither is lashing out someone nor ignoring the rules of conventional spelling. Seriously, get your act together.
