Hypothetically, could you kill an innocent to save a loved one?

Yes.

My loyalty to my friends is absolute, and with no risk to myself, it would merely be switching unavoidable fates between two equally valuable humans, one of which I'd prefer to live. If there's an unavoidable amount of harm I could do nothing to prevent, then steering it away from people who trust me to want the best for them would be my choice given such power.

It would weigh somewhat on my conscience though.

I'd see if I could stop the force that was threatening my loved one, first. Then consider the option of me dying instead of the loved one or the innocent.

If there are absolutely no other options, and there was reason enough for the person to die, I would kill them. If there was not enough reason, I'd consider their merits to my loved one's, and make the decision then.

In what kind of situation would killing an innocent person save a life? I guess this boils down to survival situations where u don't have enough food to feed everyone or something like that.

In general I'd say: yes.
The life of an "innocent" person I don't know or care about is several orders of magnitudes less valuable to me than the life of a person I love.
The risk of being caught by the police and spending time in prison is a relatively small price to pay for a person you really love.

I would do it, but I'd hesitate because the task of killing would be traumatic. If I had the chance to kill the assailant instead, I'd take it.

Assuming that the only way to save your loved one (parent, sibling, child, significant other etc)) was to kill someone who wasn't a criminal and presumably was a nice and decent person.
You choose if you get caught and go to jail for this.

I started pondering this due to a video game (unnamed here to avoid spoilers). Personally I couldn't because:
1) If my loved one cares for me as much as I care for them, he/she would know it would destroy me mentally.
2) It's incredibly selfish.
3) If I did, said love one would probably never look at me in the same way again.

So what about you? Did you ever have to think about the answer or was it a difficult choice?
Just wondering
was it Fable 3?

And yes I proberly would.

Nope. It was:
Heavy Rain. Although the guy was probably less than innocent. But I didn't know that when the game first directed you to kill him.

Yes, but this would depend on the method of killing, if i could shoot him to head or other painless killing method i would do it. But if i'm supposed to stab him to death then i'm out.

How is me killing an innocent gunna save a loved one? Really I can't think of anyway that would work. Also how am I killing them? Am I shooting them? Am I stabbing them? Am I downing them? Your question is FAR to open to answer with any truth. But to make you happy, no I wouldn't.

Hm ... I don't really know. I'm trying to imagine some possible circumstance where this would actually be necessary, and I'm pretty much failing at it ...

I could, but I wonder what the "loved one" would think of me after that.

Hell, I probably wouldn't because I would try to find some other way.

I realize this is supposed to be a Hypothetical situation, but there is NEVER no other way. There is always another way out, you just don't see it.

Can you send me a message saying which game it is?

Um. No. I don't think I would.

And yet, the arrogance of humanity is such that we don't notice how we're doing this all the time.

Do you want to think about how many things have died to keep you, and those you love alive?

And don't give me some crap about you being vegetarian. ;p - Plants are alive too.

But... That's nothing to do with the topic really.
Except insofar as how 'human' life is somehow sacred, yet nobody gives a damn about any other kind of life.

Would you kill an innocent dog to save your loved one?
How about a cow?

A tree?

See what I mean?

I probably would, but I would justify it to myself by seeing that I was punished for it.

If it saved a loved one, I would do it but I would want to go to prison or be killed for it, is that weird?
