Hypothetically, could you kill an innocent to save a loved one?

I will not take life.

But if someone wants to take that of someone I love, I will hunt. That. Person. Down.
It will probably end like God of War 3 did.

Like the person above me, Yes. I could kill a person with relative ease if it meant saving a person I love. Some of the people I love might look differently at me after me performing such an act. But I know that some of them would agree with me and would probably thank me for it!

Yep, I hang out with some fucked up people. The only sort of people which is interesting!

1 for 1, no.

Though if you're an utilitarian and could kill one to save two or more, then yes.

Well, I don't know. Depending on the situation, and who the person is, mostly.

*snip*

I've seen that part of the trial for Heavy Rain, and wow... if I had to go through that, I would do it without a doubt. Especially if that guy is shooting at me. It's risking my own life for my own family, I would definitely do it.
You know. I ended up killing the guy for my platinum trophy. And I still feel bad for it >_>

I know my loved one is a good person, how do I know the innocent person wasn't actually a bigoted, racist dickhole? Also I don't know about you but if my relative said they had to kill an innocent to save my life I would just be glad they chose me. I like living a whole bunch.

Truthfully i dont believe i could do it. I was brought up in a very... 'sanitized' enviroment. I never got into any physical fights with anyone but my old man even so actualy /taking the life of someone i dont know/ would be quite a bit more difficult. I'd probably have a panick attack first heh.

Yes. She is one of the most generous and kind person I have ever met, and most likely a better person then whoever would die. Now if it ended up being a single mother I would then, and only then, feel like an absolute prick.

I guess that means yes?

While I agree these questions are usually lacking context and real world options I will play along.

The people that ask who gets to go on the lifeboat question get a good 30 min of questions before I answer.

Yes, also you could argue that it's selfish to let your loved one die because you couldn't endure a shock to your fragile mentality.

Also because I'm such an evil, dick-headed/well rounded and lovable person (again depending on spin) I'd choose not to go to jail; I know the law states that I should but fuck that I saved a life and ended a life that's balanced in my own personal beliefs and I certainly didn't kill for personal gain or fun so I should be set free into the world...but because I'm nice/pathetic (spin) I'll report the crime to the police anonymously.

If it's 100% sure my loved one will die if I don't kill him, then yeah. That stranger is dead in seconds. If not, I won't result to blind murder instantly.

yeah that would be easy to deal with, a real tough choice is choosing which one of your loved ones lives, eg sophies choice.

Absolutely. It may be selfish, but all we can do as people in this world, is make decisions that make the world more like we want it to be. So if it comes down to the decision between an innocent and an innocent I have any sort of affection or attachment to, then my loved one is going to come first. Nothing personal random other person.

I'd like to say no, unless the person to kill is connected directly to whatever is putting my loved one in this situation. If I was actually in the situation it would depend on a lot.

And on that note...

<spoiler=it's about the game in question>
The reason I thought this was a great scene in Heavy Rain was because it wasn't "kill this person and save your son." Since there were other trials before it, the choice was more about if you a willing to go even further to save your son. 3 physical challenges leading into a moral challenge is about a bazillion (or some other made up number) times better than some silly, completely out of context choice presented in this thread.

Sidenote: balancing out the target as both a killer and a father was also a nice touch.

Depends on the circumstances, generaly though?
Yes, I'd kill and die for those I care about, I'd accept legal punishment however.
