I have a high stress life already between frigging college classes and the people I hang out with, so I don't see the point of playing a game on hard mode. All it does is up frustration for me. i play games to escape being angry, not to increase it because I keep getting pwned. I only play multiplayer with my best buddy.

Discussion value FTW?

Anyway, I basically agree. Leave the difficult to the school-children and Koreans. They do it best.

Depends on the game and if there is actual justification for hard.

Like at the moment, I am working through Demon's Souls NG+4 because even the challenge of the first run through that scared average gamers off was not a serious challenge to me and the whole point of demons souls IS the challenge.

90% of games, the point is not the difficulty or challenge, So there is no real reason to amp up the difficulty. Most random games have no real reason to play for harder difficulties. Trophies and achievements are not reasons to play through hard difficulty.

Me personally, I play 90% of the games I play on easy, because there is no difference in the easy vs hard exps outside of more time invested, Hard is just pointlessly time consuming and yields no real rewards.

I'm playing through Castlevania Lords of Shadow on Knight...only because Paladin difficulty is locked ( I hate when games do that). I love playing games on Hard since it helps lengthen my gaming experience and for the most part, it doesn't cheapen the experience with lame deaths, but actually sharpens my skills. Most games nowadays don't just increase the difficulty with lower hp, but actually smarter enemies.

...okay then.

I like moving my way up through the difficulty levels. You'd be surprised how much viciousness you can work out on demons in Devil May Cry 3 when they die slower.

I play through all my games first time on easy until I'm confident that I won't be reassured in my level of suckage on harder difficulties.

Depends on the game. Mostly I run on medium, because too easy is as unsatisfying as too hard. If I'm running through an FPS and not running low on ammo for my most used weapon, or needing to pick up health packs I'll likely raise the difficulty a bit.

I don't usually play on the maximum difficulties though, except for Doom, and even then it's on Ultraviolent, not Nightmare (although Nightmare can be fun, in small doses)

When I was young I would always choose the easiest setting for most games. Like MGS3 when I first played it.

Now I play games on at least the normal/medium difficulty. Except for Halo ODST and Reach, in which I started off on Heroic mode. Because I'm hardcore like that. (Not really)

I always play on normal/medium, otherwise it's just, well, boring...like bowling with the barriers up.

I go through once on normal and than try a harder setting if the game is good enough... or if it's S.T.A.L.K.E.R...

Isn't frustration just a part of playing video games? I mean, if you play a new video game and start out with it being hard, and get used to that, then you grow accustomed to it. At least, that's how I do it. I don't really find that much of a difference in between the levels of difficulty anyway....

It really depends on what game I'm playing... games that don't have any benefits aside from personal satisfaction towards difficulty I don't bother with, like Fallout 3.

Games like MW2 or MoH, yeah, I'll play on veteran/hard. Though I despise veteran... it's so incredibly unrealistic. >.<

I play EA's NHL series games on the hardest difficulty, most games on normal, and shooters on easy. I suck at shooters.
