I'm just a man with his own beliefs, what they are is irrelevant because it isn't your beliefs that define you. It is your actions and what people know you to be.
I am an apatheist, or pragmatic atheist.
I don't care whether or not God exists or not. It's not a question I occupy myself with. The existence of God has no meaning or relevance in my life. Even should God exist, I have never needed him, I still don't and I highly doubt I ever will.

And yes, there are many elements of Taoism and Buddhism in the Jedi way of thinking, but that doesn't change the fact that it, like many philosophies, draw from other philosophies in order to repackage them into a new idea. Pretty much the entire Star Wars saga drives at this idea.
I'm not so sure about your first point, either. Changing someone's mind is not the same as mind control. The last statement could be implying that altering someone's way of thinking via your own insight or "opening their eyes" as it were may not be your responsibility or even your right. In other words, who are you to try to tell other people how to think or dispell their beliefs into yours? We often program our kids and the lay with our ideas so that they accept them as fact, after all. Might be a long shot, but it could work.
I'm not sure what I am, but I suppose Jedi is the closest thing nowadays.

Yes, they're useful lessons to learn, but they're just as useful (and perhaps more so, since you can adapt them without feeling like you're breaking someone else's toys) if you aren't doing it by someone else's rules.

Sure it does. It's called Brainwashing. It's a hell of a lot more time consuming than simply waving your hand in the air and making someone do what you want them to do, or concentrating really hard ala Red Alert 2, but it does exist.ultrachicken said:

In any case, I consider myself an atheist. I would say agnostic, but there are just too many parts of organized religion I cannot abide, particularly Christianity (no offense intended to any Christians). I'd elaborate further, but this is not the place for it, if you really want to know PM me and I'll explain.
