I'm just a man with his own beliefs, what they are is irrelevant because it isn't your beliefs that define you. It is your actions and what people know you to be.

I am an apatheist, or pragmatic atheist.

I don't care whether or not God exists or not. It's not a question I occupy myself with. The existence of God has no meaning or relevance in my life. Even should God exist, I have never needed him, I still don't and I highly doubt I ever will.

This. It beats the hell out of following a set of rules laid out by some poser who happens to look like Emperor Palpatine.

I don't call myself anything by me, I don't tie my thoughts down with a silly label like that. I'll just stick with not being an overall asshole against the world and the people around me. Don't need anything else than some common sense and empathy for that.

Technophilic humanistic atheist here. Yes, the technophilia ties into my belief system.
So a trans-humanist? At least that's what a technophilic humanist sounds like; to use technology to ascend as a species, by lack of better words.

If Star Wars had been written 1000 years earlier on some scrolls then it would almost definitely be a major religion right now.

That last thing you listed is entirely irrelevant in the real world, as mind control does not exist (yet).

Anyways, I thought you should know that the Jedi creed was based largely on Taoism.
Christianity is based largely on Judaism. Doesn't change the fact that it is extremely different in some key areas.

And yes, there are many elements of Taoism and Buddhism in the Jedi way of thinking, but that doesn't change the fact that it, like many philosophies, draw from other philosophies in order to repackage them into a new idea. Pretty much the entire Star Wars saga drives at this idea.

I'm not so sure about your first point, either. Changing someone's mind is not the same as mind control. The last statement could be implying that altering someone's way of thinking via your own insight or "opening their eyes" as it were may not be your responsibility or even your right. In other words, who are you to try to tell other people how to think or dispell their beliefs into yours? We often program our kids and the lay with our ideas so that they accept them as fact, after all. Might be a long shot, but it could work.

I'm not sure what I am, but I suppose Jedi is the closest thing nowadays.

Mind control doesn't exist?

I wonder what propaganda is used for then, to look pretty on walls?
Is that a serious response?

Propaganda is not a form of mind control, it is a form of crowd control. Major difference.

I don't see why agreeing with those tenets means you need to stick the Jedi banner over your head.

Yes, they're useful lessons to learn, but they're just as useful (and perhaps more so, since you can adapt them without feeling like you're breaking someone else's toys) if you aren't doing it by someone else's rules.

Anyone ever notice how monotheists always argue about whose God is better? I never understood that.

Sure it does. It's called Brainwashing. It's a hell of a lot more time consuming than simply waving your hand in the air and making someone do what you want them to do, or concentrating really hard ala Red Alert 2, but it does exist.

OT: There are a lot of good life lessons in Star Wars as well as many other works or fiction, does that mean I'm going to go around calling myself a Jedi? No, don't be ridiculous. I'd say that kind of fanatical devotion is a sign of some kind of psychosis, but I'm no psychologist so what do I know?
In any case, I consider myself an atheist. I would say agnostic, but there are just too many parts of organized religion I cannot abide, particularly Christianity (no offense intended to any Christians). I'd elaborate further, but this is not the place for it, if you really want to know PM me and I'll explain.
