Best comment I've seen so far:
"you put it on steam with steamworks drm and you are guaranteed to have 20 thieves playing the game for free for every customer, if not more. Not worth it."

"Tell that to Bethesda and they'll laugh at you from atop their throne sitting on a mountain of dragon skulls AND MONEY ."

It's funny how people are still bitching about this without even reading the article because he's completely right.

It's really not a matter of everyone wanting to play "I Am Alive" so bad that they're willing to go on crusades to get PC ports. It's the fact that there isn't going to be a version for PC. How many PC gamers really want a port of this game? And even if they did, you know the quality wouldn't be the same. Look at Saints Row 2. The weapon selection even shows a 360 thumbstick icon. I remember how when LA Noire was first coming out, there were threads and threads of rage about how there was no PC version and now that there is one, I see no fanfare of excited PC gamers. The cost of making this game for PC would probably not have been worth it as well, considering that there was an article recently saying that only about half of gamers actually buy their games and a PC version would just make it easier to steal.

If there's no PC version, PC gamers will complain about it. If there is, we'll complain about the DRM. And this is coming from a very big PC gamer who is still planning on buying I Am Alive. Why? Because it looks like a good game. "Boycotting" it just stops you from playing a good game.

Because people pirate their games they're not going to sell them at all on PC? So... who are they trying to punish? The people who actually buy the games or the pirates?

This seems to be an extremely common, and ridiculous, re-occurrence with Ubisoft. Everyone must suffer because of the illegal actions of a few apparently. I'd love to buy their games on the PC, but every single time it's either a terrible port or full of DRM that punishes me for buying the game. It makes no sense.

Nobody cares whether I Am Alive is on the PC or not. We are buying into his little publicity stunt.

Not really. I think he was saying that PC gamers obsessively ***** about Ubisoft and constantly yell about boycotting their products, so why the fuck should they bother releasing it on PC.
Because if they removed the DRM, it'd be well worth it? This thread alone should indicate that many people see Ubisoft's obnoxious DRM as something worth spiting. If Ubisoft made a press release apologising for the mistakes of the past and releasing AssCreed Revelations DRM-free (perhaps with a CD key for retail, and on Steam for digital, more than reasonable), I think many people would want to vote with their wallets and reward such an act. Especially if they weren't dicks about it.

Hell, I still only buy used Ubisoft games. I support my local brick+mortar games store, but I refuse to send money to Ubisoft as long as they continue to have their DRM in place.

Well they could release a PC version with no DRM.

There's a thought.

But really, it seems like the primary objections are to Ubisoft's prior actions and to the guy's attitude. If he'd said "We don't feel that we could deliver a quality PC port that lives up to gamers expectations in the time we've been given to release this game," do you think there'd be half the amount of objections in this thread? A quarter? My bet is most people would commend him for his honesty and say that his attitude has endeared him - and by extension, his game - to them.

You forget that L.A. Noire was the shoddy port of shoddy ports.

He responded to a bunch of people bitching online by pointing out that that their bitching was in fact bitching and that the company that employs him is trying to make money like quite a few companies these days. Flaming him is just you taking out your own emotions on a convenient scapegoat, which is also what this particular scapegoat was doing with his own scapegoat.. although his scapegoat is kind of a *****

Ubisoft games always get pirated to shit or torn a new one by the pc community because of DRM. Dont blame them for giving the PC a big middle finger.
I can (and will) blame them. I can blame them for attaching god-awful DRM to their PC games in the first place, and then "bitching" when people don't want to pay money for their products on PC when pirates are enjoying themselves on DRM-free versions.

You know what? I really liked Ubisoft. They are one of the few companies that really try to invent something with all of their releases and they've consistently made fun games. Thinking about it, I probably have more games that have come through Ubisfot in one way or another than any other company.

But... you know, it would be one thing if they said they didn't want to make games for the PC anymore, gave a few reasons why, and then left it at that. It would be sad, but at least it would show an amount of honesty and respect towards the people who are buying their games. I bought From Dust on Steam, I preordered it in fact. The release date was pushed back time after time from being in line with the console release to I think 4 months later. At one point, after the console version was released I should add, they just stopped saying anything about the PC version like it didn't matter. They went past two release dates without so much as an announcement.

Then the game came out. It was unplayable. Seriously, I played the game for an hour, it crashed to desktop 3 times. You had to sign onto Ubisoft servers to play it too and the client for that was about as buggy as the game itself. So, how did this end? Valve apologized for for having the game on their system and offered everyone refunds. Valve did that. Yeah, why don't you tell Valve noone wants to buy PC games, Ubisoft?

Even after that, I was actually still looking forward to I Am Alive. I have been since I first heard about it all those years ago and may I remind you, they announced the game was going to come out on PC.

Look, I've always been of the opinion that the people at the top of these big gaming companies are all dicks. If you want to play a game, on the PC at least, you might need to jump through some hoops. It's always been like that and it's worth it for a good game. But you have to draw the line somewhere and this is too much. I'm not going to stand on my soapbox and preach about a boycott. But you and I, Ubisoft. We're done.

Take care. xx

Thank you, Ubisoft. You've just saved me a lot of money because now there is no way in hell I'm ever buying any game with your name on it.

thats stupid. not for long and they make games only for consoles. 50000 is still a large number and still lots of money. damn, not even EA would say no to pc as long they can make money in anyway possible.

I'd been following this game for awhile, and I would have bought it on PC no doubt, but on PSN? not going to happen. Even with Ubi's shit track record for PC DRM, I'd still play this on PC over console, and wouldn't play it on console anyways.

...wow. Dick. I was considering getting this game, but man, screw that. I have better things to do than waste it validating this asshole's existence, and I'm not even a PC gamer as a rule. They could release a PC version that spit Twizzlers out the USB port as an apology and I still wouldn't get it, not even to see my computer spit Twizzlers.

It's no really big loss for me, though - I've never been a fan of Ubisoft as a rule. Just gives me a reason to move them from my 'Meh' list to my 'Never buy from' list.

Might pirate it, though. justsaiyan.jpg

Not only will I not be buying this, which I hadn't even heard of and certainly won't take the time to research now, but I won't be buying AC:R any time soon. I'll still get Revelations, though. Thank pasta for used games.

Still, fuck you too. Sounds like you might need it.

Just like breath of death and cthulu saves the world which outsold it's year long stay on XBLA on steam in literally 4 days.

As are most PC ports. If a game is programmed with consoles in mind, it will be better on consoles and the same goes for PC which is why I have my doubts about the console version of Crysis despite not having played it yet.
