Have you ever alluded to, or quoted from, a movie only to have people stare blankly at you, as though you were some kind of freak? I hate when that happens.

Yeah, that happens a lot >.< Especially with music and when talking to "popular" kids, you know, not that I do that on a regular basis

That happens to me all the time. I actually posted the name of this thread as status on Facebook once and had people ask what drugs I was on.

Yay, Futurama.

OP: Yes, my friends aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer (In fact, they are more like spoons :p) and I often quote things that go way over their heads.

The better question would be what drugs aren't you on

Damn beat me to it! I knew it was a quote from Futurama as soon as I saw it!

Anything that relates to authors such as Steinway or Hemmingway go over my friends heads, over the horizon, into orbit, and until I explain it the quote returns back to earth.

Although once someone caught a Voltaire quote.

Building on wouldyoukindly99's analogy, my school may be the least threatening place in the US.

Yes. Especially since I have a tendency to quote obscure comedies. I get a lot of strange looks, even when I just make a connection and laugh.

Posted a reference on Facebook as my status a while back, nobody understood it and I had to actually explain it. I'm dreading people asking me to explain the reasoning behind a T-shirt for the same thing I referenced that I hope to be getting soon...

Anyway, let's see if any of you recognise it. The reference is, as quoted from my Facebook statud a few weeks back:

Always be prepared. You never know when your neighbour is going to turn out to be a cute crazy psychotic OCD girl who enjoys vacuuming at four in the morning...

The plubisher of MAD, Adolph Hitler, comes in and asks if I am K.O. I tell him I'm raspberries!

Heh, saw this thread, had to post.

I find myself quoting some TV shows from time to time, or Red vs Blue. My girlfriend and I have actually taken to saying "for no raisin" if someone does something retarded (don't know how to explain the way we fit that in context, so just accept it).

That's like the most quotable movie ever. How could anybody with a passing fascination with pop culture not know that line?

1 point to you sir, very clever =P.

I don't have it that often anymore - I used to have it from time to time but when my friends got used to me doing it they generally just started shrugging, or reply seriously. I never quote stuff out of context so even if they didn't get the reference the point still stands and nowadays we generally continue the discussion there.

All the time, but it works the other way round too, with the 'popular' kids.
And I mean the stereotypical popular kids, as I suppose I could be classed as a popular kid.

True, but I run into SO many people who haven't seen it. It's scary.
