I believe we may just have a gaming travesty on our hands...

This is probably pretty old news to the majority of the Escapists here, but:

Watch and despair, my children. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYfsLSvY4CU]

If I had actually eaten anything recently, I might've lost my lunch watching this trailer. It's hard to watch that and not be at least slightly insulted by what they're pulling.

What are your feelings on this? Do you think it'll potentially be a positive thing? Or do you believe to be yet another gaming debacle?

Someone's eventually going to figure out that competitive gaming is thoroughly dull and boring to watch because games were meant to be played. Sports have feats of athleticism that can clearly be seen, while something like an FPS or RTS just flat-out doesn't work because the public can't get behind nerdy shut-ins clicking mouse buttons.

VGcats has a funny comic on the subject, I have no real opinion on it I haven't watched cable tv in months and if I did I doubt I would watch this.

I do like the idea of incorporating what each game is about into a real life challenge. I'd love to play Halo based paintball.

But I gotta agree with SimuLord, competitive gaming doesn't really have a TV market. I don't see how this show could possibly make it to the finale without being canceled.

Did anyone else notice how they mentioned all those gamers from around the world in the beginning, but then revealed that the show only focuses on 14 or however many there were American gamers?

Did I miss something, or is the United States really that arrogant?

Competitive gaming has a market in Korea, right? Starcraft, right?

I don't know much about it, so enlighten me, please.

That's where I found this, actually.

I noticed that as well. I have no clue whose idea that was, but thanks for making us come across like egocentric jerks, Sci-Fi.

Gaming is not a 'sport'. Gaming is gaming.

This is insulting.
Somehow, I imagined that being said in Nyx's voice, and it just became hauntingly funny.

I like how their so intense, I bet any one of us could kick their asses.

Gaming is a past-time, not a sport.

no just no I do like that there is finally a show for gamers besides news show format but this was`nt it something like project runway, except it`s a bunch of indie developers competing to make the one game better than the rest.

This isn't real.

Good looking male gamers and female gamers DO NOT EXIST. Blasphemy!

Edit: Did that firehaired man-woman actually say "This is too hard!" and cry?

Your living in an all expenses payed house, never working and playing video games. NOTHING is hard about that.

Wow. I don't really understand how creating a Big Brother esque house for gamers is going to be compulsive television. I mean, come on. They're all geeks. Cue awkward conversation hell.

But as for the competition, I still can't see it working. Watching someone play Rock Band is hardly nail biting stuff. I'm predicting a big fail here.
