We've all had it. That moment of terror when we drop our DS, someone trips on the controller or something gets spilled. Fear, panic, maybe some cursing and a silent hope that all is well. Then, overwhelming relief as you hear that familiar start-up sound.

What are some of your close calls?

Mine is less of a close call, and more of a story of perseverance. My Sega Genesis is 18 years old, has had the hell beaten out of it, and it still works in with usually one or two attempts.

That and I've dropped my DS countless times, haha.

I never have close calls, usually when I do something like that....it doesn't work anymore.

Well I guess dropping hard drives count. I've done that a lot. Most still work fine.

I accidentally dropped my iPod into a mug of water for about 10 seconds, while it was turned on and playing music (not my fault, mind you.)
I was 100% convinced it was broken, it wouldn't turn on for 2 hours and then when the backlight finally started working, the screen displayed nothing. But then after just a day, it was working perfectly normally. Amazing.

At school today, there was a giant fight, and as the two combatants were wrestling about, one of their legs smashed into my pencil box thing, which contained my precious iPod. In horror, I unzipped the pouch, dreading the cracked screen that surely awaited me. I unwrapped the newspaper I had so gingerly placed around the iPod, only to discover that it wasn't even scratched! The kick had broken a pencil, but my iPod had survived!

my Wii fell off of a two foot high ledge while me and three others were playing smash bros and dangled a few inches off the ground. The game wasnt affected and we finished the match before placing it back where it belonged.

Definitely the fact that my Xbox is back from the dead despite being fully taken apart. Its internal organs currently cover an area roughly 3 times the size of the original console, but its still going... just...

I have you all beaten, I dropped my PSP into the water in a dirty Marina about 4 years back, it stayed at the bottom for about 36 hours, and after letting it sit out and dry, and a bit of cleaning, it soon began working again.

my ipod touch has been dropped too many times to count (on gravel, concrete, and rocks mostly). It has 2 dents on the back, numerous scratches (one on the screen, many more on the back), and a small mark on the screen. How it still works is beyond me

One day I put a pair of jeans in the washer, which had my iPod in it..I went around looking for it a couple hours later, remembered it was in my pockets, rushed to the washer, and got it out..

The back light didn't work for the whole summer, and a few weeks ago it for some reason came on.

I almost fell in the pool with phone in pocket, but managed to throw it onto the grass, was surprised it worked after the throw, but certainly wouldn't of after the pool, so it was all good

I haven't really had anything like that happen to me. A couple of times, the Wii has fallen and landed on the floor, but it was fine.
That's the only thing I have to a "close call".

One day, I was at school and I saw this guy throwing a cell phone at a wall. I'm not sure why he was throwing it at the wall, but after a couple of throws, it still worked!
A real stupid thing to do, but hey, it's not my cell phone.

I used to have a waterproof/shockproof phone. It made life easier.

I spilled milk all over my keyboard once. It was a bit stinky but it still worked. Also dropped my caseless iPod touch while I was walking, that survived too with no cracks.

^a true SSB fan, well done.

OT: dropping my cell phone hundreds of times from varying heights, and the damn thing wont break, er... i mean, it still works fine.

Oh geez! Forgot about this one. It was late February, and I went to visit my buddy a couple of towns over. At some point during the night, I realized I had lost my cell phone. I looked everywhere in the house, and on the ground outside, but couldn't find it. Now, after this we got about 10-15 cm of snow. I gave up my phone for dead. NINE days later, after the snow had melted, fallen and melted again, my buddy found the phone in his driveway. He dropped it off the next day, and I set it in the sun to dry for a couple of days. Still worked. Screen was cracked, roughly 1/3 of the screen obscured, but it worked after 9 days in the snow. Needless to say, I now have a new phone, but I still remember that one fondly, haha.
