That's how it's done.

I myself always let people go if I get the choice to let them live or die.
For example in GTA 4, I couldn't kill that guy in the mision "That Special Someone", i don't know why.
But right after that, I'm on a killing spree in Algonquin, sooo..

Some of the stuff in Fallout 3 I can't do. The major one is the "choice" at the purifier that President Eden wants you to make. You know what I mean. I can never bring myself to do that.

The final choice in The Pitt, which I will not spoil for anyone who hasn't played it.

Suffice to say it's a lose-lose situation.
Aw shit, I had managed to lock that one away... I tried reading up on so many wikis but I just couldn't decide... That quest took me hours just to decide >_<

For perspective...I've heard you have to <color=white>shoot The Boss in Metal Gear Solid 3. It's that kind of situation...I'm not sure I'd be able to do it in MGS3 at all.
I know what you mean... I was shocked when <color=white> Big Boss shot her in a cutscene after I waited too long to pull the trigger myself... I guess time can be an enemy...

Personally, I ALLWAYS load in Valkyria Chronicles if someone dies/is downed. I don't want to lose anyone D:

The one that really, really got to me was Heavy Rain.
I struggled at the Lizard challenge (cutting off your finger) but I did it, and actually cried out in pain, of sorts. Then it came to the Shark challenge (killing the guy) where I actually had to think about it, but I eventually shot him. I had to save Shaun, damnit! Although I actually felt proper regret after that one :(

I really wanted to get the Platinum Trophy for Heavy Rain (definitely favourite game of all-time), so I had to get all the bad endings.
That was beyond difficult.

Nothing that has stopped me progressing so far, but then I won't play Destroy All Humans because of the cow killing in the training level, so maybe....
Also I don't think I will be able to play Red Dead Redemption for sort of the same reason (killing animals in a real life setting) Hunting and so on. If it were optional I'd play it, but from the trailers it looks like it is part of riding on your horse out in the wild.
I too am aware that it is just a game, but I can't do it :-S
I also have only played renegade Shepard once and wouldn't have done that if it weren't for the fact that ME always allows you to do the right thing even if your choices are mostly renegade. I can't do bad things, but I can be mean to the characters that wind me up. That renegade play through was tough!

I find it hard to take evil options, if they involve killing people, i just can't be that much of a dick
Relatedly, in Halflife 2 missions when you have a squad of the mentally challenged following you around, despite the fact that it would be much easier to send them in, whoops they all die and then you finish the mission yourself, i had to keep them alive, mainly by telling them to stay in a room while i disposed of any threats myself...

...you didnt eat them afterwards? tisk tisk. My first goal in every playthrough is to slaughter everyone in megaton and eat them (i use the console to give myself the cannibal perk ASAP), except moira, i blow her up and let her get ghoulified first, then i kill her and eat her.

so no, being evil is no problem. in fact i do it out of habbit when im trying to be good.

Yeah, pretty frequently.

One while playing Far Cry 2 I got ambushed by two enemies. I pulled out a pistol and winged one of them, then took cover. The second guy ran over to his wounded friend and started trying to drag him to safety while assuring him that everything was going to be alright. Despite having a clear shot, I suddenly found that I had no desire to shoot them.

Generally speaking, if given the choice, I play as a complete goody-two-shoes. Paragon, saver of little sisters, etc etc. I just never saw the appeal in being a bastard in video games.

When I get into the character, I often come to points where it disgusts me to take a certain course of action. Thankfully, this has yet to interfere with the primary story line, and only happens when I'm going for a mostly 'good' character. I can disconnected and do any horrible thing that isn't stupid when playing an 'evil' character.

Usually though, I'm more along the 'neutral' lines. So whenever any task comes up (ANY task) I ask myself, "why the hell am I doing this?" the usual answer is "oh yeah, rewards."

The only thing I recall is I've felt bad about killing dogs in games. Even the ones that are charging at me ready to latch on to my neck. I still felt bad when they yelped as I shot them.
Killing the dogs in God of War II may very well be my favorite part of the game. I don't hate dogs or anything, but it was god damn fun kicking them around (you are playing as a psycho anyway, may as well embrace it).

Sometimes I feel like the special ops guy from Eric L. Harry's book "Invasion".
The scene that typifies me goes something like this:

He (the spec ops guy) ambushes a Chinese convoy that's refueling their trucks. He shoots quite a few of them, but does not pull the trigger on a few of them during this attack for some moral qualm or another. Then, since he's scanning left and right from the front to the back of the convoy, he comes across people that he hasn't shot before and shoots them this time around, and he himself doesn't know why he spared them the first time around or why he does shoot them when he sights them again.

This is quite typical of me. For instance, in Oblivion, I could fight hard to save all the guards from one of the big ol' gates that opened on top of a town, but when I'd get caught stealing in that same town, I would have no qualms about cutting them to bits to protect myself. Halo 1 was the same. I'd go out of my way to save as many marines I could at times, but would merely shrug if they did get in the path of one of my masterful grenade throws.

Oh, and on the topic of the vaunted MW2 airport scene, I was reported to have uttered: "Haha! DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA!"

Quick edit: I remember people whining about how you had to kill dogs in various Calls of Duty. (Call of Duties?) But where were those people when you also had to kill other human beings? Hypocrites, ranking canine lives higher than human lives.

Usually i don't really care about my real life morality in games and do whatever i want.
However, i've to this day refused to play MW2 for "this scene" because due to things regarding the presentation and such it doesn't sit right with me. Hypocritical? Probably.

The other exception was in GTA IV, when i wanted to try out the euphoria engine by shooting a nearby innocent woman in the leg. The way she dragged herself from my character, bleeding and screaming, convinced me to not do this again (Well, i still killed civilians in the game to cause police heat, i just stopped "torturing" them).

Also, in games where you can choose between good and evil (or something alike), i usually am not evil/good for evil/goodness sake. As such, even when i tend to play as a "darker" character, i will still be nice to NPCs i symphatize/emphatize with.

Lulz, in MW2 i even shot the ones trying to crawl away, and the ones trying to save others, and the ones standing with the hands up, even the ones just sitting there bleeding away. That part of the game is fucking awesome! :D
