Right, because I ONLY EVER USE ONE HAND WHEN GAMING. Try playing a modern FPS or console game with one hand. Hell, most games which aren't 100% turn based require both hands. So, wise master, how do you propose I use both the keyboard and mouse at the same time, with one hand, at a speed reasonable for gaming? And I can use my left hand reasonably. In fact, I typed this 100% with lefty.

Turn based RPGs. Take all the time you need on the,

I configured my FF7 layout to be completely played left handed. An FYI if that helps.

I wouldn't necessarily give up gaming. I had to do that for boot camp and I started hallucinating. True story.
Considering the turn-based angle, to be honest. Basically the only real option for me. Basically looking for one-handed gaming options, and this does seem like the best bet.

If your not into tha,t i suggest alot of film watching. The more you get into it the more obscure films you tend to find out about and like. I'm a massive film fan and willing to give anything a chance.

My suggestions
Horror: [REC] 1 and 2
Marial Arts : Chocolate (its a Tiwanise film? Its superb)
Gangster: Mesrine (its french and pure awsome)

Thats the more "might not know category" but i can suggest alot more mainstreem films too.
We've already got a decent DVD library at home, so I'm going to be doing much of that, as well as reading. But I will be basically lazing around at home for weeks, so as a passionate gamer, I do have my priorities. Thanks for the suggestions though!

And I'll include a picture so people can see I can't just use my other hand.

How about the Kinect? Pahaaa... but seriously I would just watch movies and let myself heal. Or go out and tell random chicks that you sliced your hand saving a bunch of puppies from a saw mill and all of that happened.
By the way how did you actually slice it?
Glass and liquor. Worst mistake of my life.

I hear that. Its hard to concentrate on BRM when mario is bouncing in front of your targets being chased by chief riding on a minotaur. yeah that happened that and a spider on my sights.

Hello again Escapist. Some of you may remember me, some of you may not. But that's not really relevant, I guess. What is relevant, as you may have guessed from the title, is that I'm not able to use my right hand for 3 months (very severe cut on the fingers, and some hardcore surgery to fix it). Not even allowed to move my index finger.

So, I ask, what's the best way to pass this time without being able to use a console controller or mouse?

I was thinking about buying DS games and then using an emulator copy, so I could play one-handed. Any words on the legality of this?
Back in the day when arcades were still around there was this guy who played Tekken Tag. He only had one arm (lost his right arm in a motorcycle accident), yet he was just as good at the game as anyone who played it. He used his fingers of the left hand for the buttons and used the inside/outside of his wrist to manipulate the joystick...

Point being, I'm sure there's plenty of games you can still play with only one hand; most puzzle games on PC only require a mouse, you can play a fair share of RPGs with only a mouse too.
Did you live in Orlando, I remember playing Soul Caliber with a dude who also had 1 arm due to a motorcycle accident.

I've played multiple console FPS games with one hand, and do good enough, but that is besides the point.
Why do you have to play FPS games on your PC? There are plenty of good non-turn based games that you can easily calibrate to one hand. I'd check the indie market, because there are plenty of them.
And I never said you couldn't use your left hand reasonably.

There's always the Civilization series, if you're a PCer.
I actually realised after posting that I had Civ 3 and 5, as well as Napoleon: Total War (can always automate battles). Things are looking up, I guess.

if you still want to game, try a point and click adventure, if not, there are plenty of ways to eat up gamer friendly time online; watch reviews of things (the spoony one), or machinima (red vs blue).
get a subscription to netflix, that should eat up some time

My left hand was in a cast for three weeks due to a hairline fracture in my wrist. I was able to play COD: MW2 on a PS3 and Xbox 360. And I got to lvl 20 too.

Either play a slow RTS or man up and do the right thing!

Would if I could there champ, but mine is not a break or a fracture, but a severed tendon, and severe damage to my other fingers. As the picture demonstrates, my fingers don't extend beyond the end of the cast. Also if I move the right index finger, the repaired tendon will detach, and the surgeon didn't think we would be able to fix it a second time. So that's a negative on that front :p

Do lots of things? I've gone months without gaming plenty of times. Think of it as a test of will, if you must. Find new interests.

We all know the real reason you can't use your right hand...

Anyways, i'd suggest getting TF2 and playing Pyro. Bind shoot to E and you've got yourself a killer setup.
