Can't game for three months?
*twitch*
*brain has stopped working and must be shut down*

In all seriousness, Civ games like some have said, but I recommend Alpha Centauri. MIND WORMS! Galactic Civilizations 2 is worth a look too, same thing, but in space. Anything turn based could be manageable, like fallout 1 and 2 and tactics, X-com, Arcanum, Temple of Elemental Evil if you like DnD, Planescape Torment. Tycoon games could be done too. I used to love the original roller coaster tycoon. Minecraft could still be loads of fun. Pokemon could be done one handed, movement would feel the same, just reach for the other buttons.

You could watch Let's plays on youtube as well. Helloween4545, Kikoskia, and agentjr are my 3 favorites. Hope you get well soon.

Kirby Air Ride. There are only 3 controls:

L-trigger: Boost
Control stick: Steer left and right
Start: confirm

I beat the entire game with my left hand just to see if it was possible and it is.

My left hand was in a cast for three weeks due to a hairline fracture in my wrist. I was able to play COD: MW2 on a PS3 and Xbox 360. And I got to lvl 20 too.

Either play a slow RTS or man up and do the right thing!
Would if I could there champ, but mine is not a break or a fracture, but a severed tendon, and severe damage to my other fingers. As the picture demonstrates, my fingers don't extend beyond the end of the cast. Also if I move the right index finger, the repaired tendon will detach, and the surgeon didn't think we would be able to fix it a second time. So that's a negative on that front :p
Ow, didn't know it was a severed tendon man. What did you do to your hand? Though you can still play a slow RTS like Sins of a Solar Empire with one hand and other large scale games. I also heard that on easy you can play bayonetta with one hand and complete it but I haven't confirmed that.

Hello again Escapist. Some of you may remember me, some of you may not. But that's not really relevant, I guess. What is relevant, as you may have guessed from the title, is that I'm not able to use my right hand for 3 months (very severe cut on the fingers, and some hardcore surgery to fix it). Not even allowed to move my index finger.

So, I ask, what's the best way to pass this time without being able to use a console controller or mouse?

I was thinking about buying DS games and then using an emulator copy, so I could play one-handed. Any words on the legality of this?
I broke my right arm when I was about 10, if you enjoy pokemon I suggest that, especially with the ds it would be SUPER easy to play that

good luck man, I'm there with you, all I have for the next four or so months is college and a psp with about 5 games, luckily monster hunter and Disgaea are among them, so I will have hours of play time :p

You can play Dragon Age Origins and RPGs like it with only a mouse.

Or you could play some forum RPGs or Mafia to pass the time. That's what I do when I'm bored.

Use your left hand and take this time to discover point an click adventure games, if you haven't. They don't require quick reflexes so you can use your left hand.
Grim Fandango
Machinarium
The Longest Journey
Myst/Riven
Sam and Max Hit the Road
Beneath A Steel Sky (which is freeware btw)

There ya go, that'll last you at least 3 months.

You should try point and click games, anything that doesn't require reflexes. Sam and Max, Myst? etc

Step 1: get a joystick
Step 2: play any games compatible with said joystick
Step 3: ???
Step 4: profit!
There I fixed it for you :D

Seriously though, just play games that can be done with only one hand (not stalking about "adult" games here guys geez...). Any point and click style of game will work, as well as a number of jrpgs and strategy games that don't require quick reflexes or 2 dozen button presses in a limited window. Treat that hand well and hope all heals up well!

I worked with a guy who had a pretty bad injury to his hand and tendons, and he just took it easy, worked everything out once he was allowed and now he's back to normal again. Good luck and have fun!

As far as I know, as long as you own an original copy of the game and system, you can emulate it.
As for using a mouse, most operating systems allow you to reverse the mouse clicks, so you can put it on the left side and use it like that.

Dude you have got the a good chance of pulling the old "take pity on me" to get laid, loads!!!

If your not into tha,t i suggest alot of film watching. The more you get into it the more obscure films you tend to find out about and like. I'm a massive film fan and willing to give anything a chance.

My suggestions
Horror: [REC] 1 and 2
Marial Arts : Chocolate (its a Tiwanise film? Its superb)
Gangster: Mesrine (its french and pure awsome)

Thats the more "might not know category" but i can suggest alot more mainstreem films too.
I loved REC :D
OT: Just chill, get addicted to some TV show then salivate over whenever it comes on.

Either watch game videos on the internet to pass the time, or gain mutate powers that increase your healing process.

That's all I've got. Good luck to you!

Nintendo says it isnt

Can I Download a Nintendo ROM from the Internet if I Already Own the Authentic Game?

There is a good deal of misinformation on the Internet regarding the backup/archival copy exception. It is not a "second copy" rule and is often mistakenly cited for the proposition that if you have one lawful copy of a copyrighted work, you are entitled to have a second copy of the copyrighted work even if that second copy is an infringing copy. The backup/archival copy exception is a very narrow limitation relating to a copy being made by the rightful owner of an authentic game to ensure he or she has one in the event of damage or destruction of the authentic. Therefore, whether you have an authentic game or not, or whether you have possession of a Nintendo ROM for a limited amount of time, i.e. 24 hours, it is illegal to download and play a Nintendo ROM from the Internet.

RTS, turn-based games (possibly best), maybe stuff using a Wiimote? Speaking of turn-based stuff, maybe Roguelikes? They're a bit like Spelunky (which you seem to like), or rather, the feel thereof as an RPG.

That aside, I know you're not going to recover too quickly, but I really hope you at least stop hurting soon. Must be awful.

I've permanantly lost the use of my right hand and can still play PC games.
Get a touchpad and a USB keypad, put the touchpad to the left of your keyboard, and the keypad to the left of that and you're off. Usually needs a bunch of key remapping to map the key functions to the keypad, but it works.
You won't be as good as you are two handed, but you're playing.
