Has anyone else noticed a disturbing rise in angsty teens asking for relationship advice? this is a gaming site people! I've seen three threads today with kids saying really pathetic things about girls who they like but the're not sure if she likes them back. I appreciate that these off topic discussions are a nice aside but if you want relationship advice, go to your mum, not a website like this.

It's called 'Off-Topic Discussion' for a reason. This is for everything not-gaming.

Hey, you know what you do when you see those threads if you don't like 'em? You ignore them!. This can't be that hard an idea to think of, can it?

No more than normal.

There are some people who don't know where to turn to.

They're too embarrassed to ask their parents or don't have any true friends they can confide in in real life, so they turn to the anonymity of the internet.

It helps some people.

Why does it bother you?

Would you go to your mum for relationship advice like that? I know I personally wouldn't. And yes they are off topic discussions but no ones forcing you to read them or participate in them. We're a community of like minded individuals so these kids know we at least think closely to how they do and therefor are comfortable asking for this advice and trust that it'll be pretty good. I guess I'm just not understanding why these are bothering you personally.

Hey dude shit happens and sometimes when there's no one else to turn to people like to turn to places like the Escapist. WHy? Well because they trust us here and we usually can give good advice out to those in need. IF you don't like it then either ignore them or just leave. You're not that important.

I completely agree with this!
Whats wrong with asking your fellow more experienced gaming peers for help on something completely unrelated then gaming.

We.. well at least most of us all share many things in common which draw us to each other in this website and others. Someone may have gone through exactly, what said person is going through and it makes their advice that much more stronger when they have been there.

So don't take offense to it, we want help from those we feel similar enough to. Not mother.

I guess they think its a decent place to ask because 1: its annonomys, ive said things here that i wouldnt say to my closet friend in real life. 2: we seem to be a decently tolerant and friendly community, atleast for the internet. 3. Why not ? Yea there are dating sights and that, but why not ask here, if someone doesnt want to answere theyl either ignore it or post some minor smart ass remark. But if someone genuenly want to help, they can.

Ba-zing!

I would think this site would actually do better in the advice department than some of the alternatives available to today's youth.

Meh, let them vent here. Chances are they'll find someone who's gone through a very very similar event in their lives, talking to your mom on the other hand is a step towards suicide.

Besides, you can choose not to look at them and so long as they're well written and not troll-bait why would you care?

If you're posting relationship questions on gaming sites, you should expect many of the answers to be jokes, otherwise you'd me asking your friends who actually know what you're talking about.

Shit, I wouldn't go to my mom for relationship advice. I'd rather have the opinions of third parties who have nothing to gain or lose from my decision.

I've read between the lines and realized that you need relationship advice. Well, don't post it here! This is a game magazine website!
