I didn't care for Portal 2

Yeah, I said it.

The entirety of the first half felt like a rehash of the test sequences from the first Portal, which was made worse by the agonizingly frequent load screens - especially egregious since the first tests are the easiest and go by faster than any other.

The second half seemed to wobble between tedium and frustration for me. If the puzzle wasn't painfully obvious in its solution, then it was so difficult to the point that it eeked out curse words from me - a rarity.

The writing was especially witty but that in and of itself made it hard to like any of the characters. Glados' snide remarks and constant belittling commentary got on my nerves even faster than in Portal. Wheatley's sheer stupidity rapidly went from amusing to head-bashingly annoying.

I found it very hard to commit to liking the game and those parts I do like have rapidly become tarnished by the constant use of the game as meme fodder.

I heard the writer hated the "Cake Is A Lie" line for spawning that meme such that he refused to put it in Portal 2. I cannot blame him.

I didn't HATE the game. I just never want to look at it again.

Well this is pretty much exactly how I felt. Maybe a bit harsher.

I think it'd just be better if they hadn't made Portal 2 at all, and just shipped DotA 2 faster so they could get to work on a new franchise.

I definitely liked the game, but aside from some witty dialog, there really wasn't worth mentioning about it, here's hoping the DLC gives the game some lasting appeal.

And I'll try not to be annoyed by the fact that the DLC seems to be stuff that should have been in the game to begin with, it is free at least...

Hooray for you, you have an opinion?

I don't know what you want me to say other than you're totally entitled to not like a game and to express that belief, but there's not much in the way of discussion value here. If everyone made a thread about every single game that someone else liked that they personally didn't, or vice versa, there'd be no other topics on this website.

By the way, if you really do want a place to express your thoughts on a game, there is also the User Review section. You might enjoy that, as it could let you go into much greater depth about your opinions. :)

I agree and seriously, is this going to be the new Half-life 2, with several threads popping up every single week with people not understanding the appeal of Portal 2? I really, really don't hope so.

It was an enjoyable game, too bad you didn't like it, but what is it you want with this thread, that people try to convince you otherwise?

Well aren't you edgy and cool for not liking something mainstream.

But seriously, unless you're going to write a review on Portal 2 we don't need a thread all about how you didn't like it.

Pretty much this. Maybe OP just felt like a good discussion.

If so, wrong way to go about it.

Sorry. Sorry. Can we please have an end to these threads?

So you didn't like a game that was supposed to be good. Big deal - that's your opinion. It doesn't mean you have to tell everybody just because they don't think the same. Hey, guys! I don't like coffee! Aren't you amazed? Am I not so witty and edgy? Woo! I'm different!

agonizingly frequent load screens
Am I the only person that doesnt understand this? it loads after each chamber, why? As far as I understand the engine used has been changed up a whole lot so this is sort of a beta and...agonizing? My max load time was 7 seconds....7 SECONDS..I COUNTED...we really must be impatient these days..

Um...hate to break it to you..but Glados is a snide AI..she hates you. Since you know..you killed her? And Wheatly is an idiot..he was designed to be that way..this was made very clear..And just to check..you think the writing was very witty, but you dont accept it as wit because the remarks annoy you..I..I dont understand

Also you say you found it tedious at some points, but frustrating at some?. How in the world can something wobble between, repetitive and too hard?

The length of the loadtimes didn't bother me. It was the frequency. It loads after each chamber, which isn't at all bad once you've reached the last third of the game and each chamber can take some significant time to work out. But during the first half, when the chambers are so easy as to be completed in less than two minutes, the frequency of the load screens drives me up the wall.

I understand why the characters are the way they are. That doesn't make me like them. They were both entertaining at first, and I thought I would like Wheatley. But by the end I couldn't stand either of them and wanted to be rid of them as fast as possible. I accept it as wit. Doesn't mean I like it.

Certain puzzles stick out in my mind as being exceptionally hard, mingled with puzzles with such incredibly obvious solutions as to become chores unto themselves. Other Puzzles had that unique mix of challenge, brevity and spectacle to make them quite a joy to complete.

I'm confused by your logic. The first couple of levels were supposed to be a rehashing of the first few levels in the original Portal because it was the tutorial levels. The other thing is if you are easily frustrated by puzzles, then why are you playing a puzzle game?

To the rest of your claims I say, "Meh, I liked it"

I'm curious, do you post here every time you play a game that you don't like?

I've played the original Portal. I didn't need the handholding. It was neat to see the facility in such a state of disrepair, but the almost condescending ease with which the tutorial is presented, combined with the associated frequency of load screens, made it feel like a chore.

And it's not that I am frustrated by puzzles. Indeed, I found several puzzles to be great thought experiments in 3D space, and I enjoyed the challenge of having to think that way. It's just that some puzzles were incredibly frustrating.

And that's a fair enough opinion. I thought mine was as well, but according to the Escapist I was wrong.

TROLL. Not because you didn't like the game - fair enough - but because you felt compelled to post this, knowing full well the response you'd get. :p

Maybe you dont realize but..all games have tutorials in the intro now. They do that because if they are an optional thing, nobody does them( even newbies) then they get frustrated when they dont understand. The starting chambers HAVE to be very easy..Valve cant just presume "oh..eveeeeryones played Portal 1, everyone knows how this works" and throw you straight in, they have to cater for everyone.

You didn't like a game and you're telling us because?...

I don't like moths but I don't feel the urge to put up a thread about it. It's not that your opinion is wrong it's just, unless you're putting up a review, it seems a little obnoxious and like you're just asking to be flamed.

Also just because you played the original Portal doesn't mean everyone who's going to buy it has. The first part of the game is getting you back into the groove and setting the scene for what's happened to the facility after you 'killed' GLaDOS.

But I liked it so what do I know? XD
