King of Tennis lol, an anime about tennis. I didn't think it could happen, but it did.
They had to Dragon Ball Z it up a little bit though (edit: Also, Prince of Tennis, not King)

OT: I didn't know they could make an anime where the man in the relationship was a catman and the woman was a human, but Inuyasha proved me wrong.

What about Midori Days. It's about a guy who falls in love with his hand, that is also a girl.
Well, technically it is more about a guy falling in love with a girl, who has for some reason been transformed into his hand due to loving him so much...
Sure, but it sounds more fun when you say it my way.

I'm still surprised by the lack of an anime/manga based on the life of Musashi Miyamoto. Yes, I know there are animes that feature characters based on him, or that mention him, and such. What I'm looking for is a more literal story based on his life. Think something along the lines of Kenshin.

For those wondering, Musashi was one of the greatest samurai to ever live. He was alleged to have fought over 60 duels, those it is believed to have been closer to 100, and never lost. He won his first duel at the age of 13. He was well known to have shown up late to most duels. He was known to be a rather accomplished writer and artist. And his most famous duel was won against Sasaki Kojirō on an island. He showed up late (of course), supposed used a wooden sword that he carved out of an oar on the way to the duel, and then escaped using the high tide and defending against attackers that supported Kojirō.

I ask: Why is there not an anime based on his life?

Well, dog demon, but partially right anyway.

I just remembered one really good short film that is complete WTF material from start to finish. Cat Soup.
"The surreal black comedy follows Nyatta, an anthropomorphic kitten, on his travel to the land of the dead and back in an effort to save his sister's soul."

Just watch the parts that start at 2:40 and 7:00 and you'll see what I mean.

I would watch tennis if it was like this. Roger Federer eat your heart out!

What the hell was that? Why did they go for the ball? It was clearly out of bounds. Wouldn't the ball float underwater? They didn't just break physics, but logic.

Another good thing to look at for 'Anything can be anime'; the entirety of Studio Ghibli's movies.

To list a few- a highschool drama with time travel, a girl getting stuck in a fantasy world and finding her way back, a girl saving a cat who turns out to be the 'prince of cats', and then a hard hitting story about the Kobe firebombings... yeah

...I don't know about you, but I totally would watch tennis if they were like that.

Now, on topic, yes, they can make an anime/manga about anything. And that's awesome. If somewhat creppy sometimes.

My answer is a little off course because it's a manga, but whatever.

Silver Spoon. It's about an agricultural school. Yeah, that's right. Cows. Chickens. Horses. You name it.

Interestingly enough, it's by the same author who did Fullmetal Alchemist. Go figure.

How about Coffee Samurai? Here's a plot description:

"Hemi, finds that she?s in love with a Coffee Vending machine! Of course, it all makes perfect sense once you realize that he?s actually an ancient Samurai who wished to be reborn into an indestructible steel body. But it certainly makes the dates uncomfortable and somewhat prone to scalding!"

yeah

For me, Yakitate Japan! takes the cake when it comes to odd subject matters of anime and manga. Basically, it uses all of the nice familiar tropes from more or less any Jump! sports manga (rivals, over-the-top powers and a vast disregard for physics) and turns it into a series about baking bread.
I really love that I made this topic now. and here I was thinking baseball was weird.
Yeah. Making bread that can ACTUALLY kill someone, send them to Heaven, then revive them again is considered 'Okay'. Only good enough to win a small competition.

Let's also not forget that people who control the elements of Fire and Water, and who can fly, chose to play tennis.

[quote="Cabal_Therapist" post="18.301048.12001082" *while I don't like it* Prince of tennis[/quote]

it used to be a good series but its ridiculous now people playing with 5 balls at once and being able to send people flying hundreds of metres.
goddamn it.

the one that made me think,'They made that an anime?' was Sleeping with Hinako (or Himiko) it is like intended for lonely nerds to feel like they have a girlfriend. Not it isn't about sex but about watching her sleep and ramble sleepily or something. I don't remember how to embed videos but check out Pikachu0z's commentary on youtube... it is like the most boring anime ever.
