I didn't know they could make an anime about that...

Remember, folks, anime is a medium, not a genre, and as such can encompass any and all genres.

Just watch anything from noitiminA (a television block for anime outside of usual anime demographics) for examples.

I'm still surprised by the lack of an anime/manga based on the life of Musashi Miyamoto. Yes, I know there are animes that feature characters based on him, or that mention him, and such. What I'm looking for is a more literal story based on his life. Think something along the lines of Kenshin.

For those wondering, Musashi was one of the greatest samurai to ever live. He was alleged to have fought over 60 duels, those it is believed to have been closer to 100, and never lost. He won his first duel at the age of 13. He was well known to have shown up late to most duels. He was known to be a rather accomplished writer and artist. And his most famous duel was won against Sasaki Kojirō on an island. He showed up late (of course), supposed used a wooden sword that he carved out of an oar on the way to the duel, and then escaped using the high tide and defending against attackers that supported Kojirō.

I ask: Why is there not an anime based on his life?
Yes there is. --> http://www.mangareader.net/100/vagabond.html

Edit: Though there is no anime for this title (yet).

Holy Hell! There is a manga! AWESOME! I'm gonna bookmark that one. THANK YOU!
I'm curious, though. I looked for this kind of thing yesterday and found no mention of this. I wonder why.

Anyway, thank you for that link. Hopefully, they'll make an anime based off it soon enough.

I really do believe that manga / anime can be made out of anything. Life is good that way. I swear some of them boarder on satirical with their story lines. And if it's not meant that way, then they're just hilarious >_<.

I'm not sure if it's an anime yet, but Yomeiro Choice is a preety weird manga. I read the synopsis and had to check it out >_<:

"The story is about Saku, a high school student who lives with his cousin Ran and has a childhood friend named Karin. It turns out a girl suddenly appears in his house and claims to be Karin's and Saku's child from 10 years in the future. Not long after, another girl appears and this time she claims to be Ran's and Saku's daughter.
Now both girls are convinced that if Saku doesn't marry their respective mothers they will both disappear, and things aren't turning out easy for him..."

Makes Marty McFly's time travel problem look small...

I much prefer anime about "normal" subjects, than any of the fantasy anime garbage that's out there right now. Don't get me wrong, I like fantasy sometimes, but Anime fantasy is usually just really bad. It's like watching Captain Planet.

I must say that I am never surprised by the topic of any anime ever. My motto is, basically, if it exsists, there either is an anime of it or there will be one soon. Japan is a magical place filled with people who have minds that can come up with and adapt things to anime and manga.

So, in short, no, I have never found an anime I was surprised about its exsistence. That doesn't mean I don't think some are weird, but it doesn't surprise me.

So recently I discovered the Funimation Channel and saw some standard anime stuff: robots, magical girls, super fighting humans, living weapons etc. But then I watched Big Windup. An anime about high school baseball. I'm personally not a huge fan of baseball, but I just find myself intrigued by how odd this anime is by being so normal.

so anime watchers, what anime have you seen that made you that made you think, "I didn't know they could make an anime about that..."
There is a wide range of topics and genres of anime. Sports ones are actually pretty popular (to my dismay. Not a big sports fan). I'm more into crazier, gorier, and fucking mind fucking anime. Higurashi's a good one.

There is a manga about collecting soda cans.
They fight the evil of non-aluminum cans.
To save the world.
I'm gonna have to call bullshit on that - links or it didn't happen.

If it did, however, I would read that so quickly.

OT: After the 'Utility pole falling in love with a man' debacle, anything I had became instantly redundant.

EDIT: Although there is a show called Genesis of Aquarion about orgasm powered mecha...

Yeah...

I'm honestly not surprised by any anime made, because of rule 34. An anime of anything can be made...so stuff like this doesn't really faze me anymore.

Akikan is really weird, and they made it into an anime as well...

OT: C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control is one about a financial district where people battle for money. Its basically a battle of economics

What about Midori Days. It's about a guy who falls in love with his hand, that is also a girl.
Symbolism! XD

Symbolic for...that thing guys do that involves their hand...and something extra.
It's also the dictionary definition of "Better than it Sounds."

OT: There's an anime about making anime called Animation Runner Kuromi. It's a short little 2 episode OVA that shows life in an anime studio.
