I'm not sure what you expected most people to think by saying that.

Personally, I don't care what you, or anyone else plays/watches/plays on/owns, it doesn't effect me. Yes I'm sure some Half Life fanboy might jump out and call you a fool but I'm more on the side of "you enjoy what you want".

I thought it was a great shooter, though I will say calling it an "average shooter" means very little since the game came out X years ago and pretty much was the first to do shooters like that so well. But look at it how you want. :)

I dunno, I really enjoyed the engagements in the game. Sure it doesn't use every keyboard function like Crysis does, but I think keeping it simple has helped the game and made it faster. Each to their own right?

Truthfully, i didnt get it (the orange box) until the begining of 2009, but i still dont think it was too great a game. A lack of multiplayer wasnt much of n issue (team fortress 2 was there), but the game didnt really seem good until the antlion nests and enhanced gravity gun. The graphics and story are great, but those are irrelivent. Truthfully, i thought it was n average shooter.

Does anyone else have this opinion?

Before anyone asks, i thought portal was good but nway too short.
its whats under its hood. physics. first of its kind, common place now. its like looking at the wright brothers' plane and saying "whats so special?" or looking at the world's first nuke and asking why its so important.
I havent played fps much until may of 2007, so i dont no much about advanced physics in the game (or lack thereof in others), but other than that, i dont really c 2 much of other games ripping it off

Watch goose goose on youtube. Watch his half life 2 videos. It will give you a new look on the game. Here is a sample.

I remember seeing those videos before. Great analysis of the game, if you didn't know better you'd assume he was talking about an Orwellian novel or classic movie instead of a video game. Really makes you respect everything Valve put into the game.

Back on topic, Half-Life 2 isn't a game you can really play in the same mindset as Gears of War or Halo. It's gunplay may be a little dated (except for the gravity gun and antlion bits, which IMO still haven't been beat), but if you slow down and appreciate the atmosphere and environments, it'll really suck you in as opposed to if you just held W (or the left thumbstick) until you got to the next firefight.

I liked Half Life 2. Yes as far as gameplay goes its nothing special. You point gun and pull trigger. Gun goes boom and peoples fall down. However the physics were amazing except the seesaw puzzle got old. The story is wonderful and the atmosphere is amazing. I would'nt say it is a phenomenal game but it isnt average by any means.
btw my computer effed up coming into this thread too.

Yes, you're so special for thinking it's average. Your opinion matters that much.

I liked it though.
ya god forbid somebody doesnt think the way you do

Obviously, characterization, voice acting, strong AI, innovation, atmosphere, level design, sound design and set pieces bear little weight in your appreciation of games.

where do you think rag doll physics came from? they dont rip off HL2 because its all WWII games now.
Er... rag dolls aren't from HL2. I quite remember rag doll physics in the very first Hitman.

Urg...theres a "I hate Halo" thread every day and a "I don't get Half Life" thread every week.

The Escapist needs new users that have new franchises to complain about on a weekly/daily basis.
