Finished the main game (100%/Plat) last night (no DLC) after a fun 8 hours marathon of freezing, lag, graphics not loading and other glitching problems.

But I just don't understand the ending at all:

(SPOILERS)

Fawkes said less than 30 minutes prior that he can handle extreme radiation. Yet it's you whom has to go into the Radiated room of Project Purity and do all the work. Um. Why couldn't you have just sent him instead? (Ok. Fair enough if you didn't recruit him.)

Just seemed a bit stupid when that option was there yet you wander in and get yourself killed.

Yea, it seems pretty stupid to me. I had the Broken Steel DLC when I got to that part, and it let me send him in but I still got the ending that made me sound like a douche for not going in myself.

Yes, this has been discussed a thousand times in a thousand forums. The forced ending is total crap. Not just because it's a forced death, but because it makes no sense when you have various companions that could easily take the hit for you. Thankfully the DLC fixes at least one of these options.

Meh, I dont care. If I had put 100% completion into the game like you have, I would be happy to see it end nomatter what. But seriously that ending has been discussed alot, luckly though it has been corrected in the broken steel dlc.

If you've recruited him talk to the girl and say Fawkes can do it, then talk to Fawkes and say "go in their and blah blah... the password is 216"
this means you can't do the Enclave ending but whatever.

That only works if you have the Broken Steel DLC.

Because, there would be no one to grieve over. It would have been awkward.

In reality; yeah, the developers got stoned on the day they made the ending.

He just said he didn't have the DLC so it's impossible for him.

Stop bitching and get inside the Deadly Radioactive Chamber.
(Kids, never follow advice like these from strangers.)

It's a contrived plot hole, simple as that, because the devs wanted to force you to make that decision. Remedied with Broken Steel.

we all make mistakes, no worries. Sorry if I sounded harsh, but I'm on my iPod so I keep most posts short and to the point.

Okay, let the master explain (I have seriously put in to my fallout game MONTHS of play) YOU CAN send Fawkes into the irradiated chamber if you have recruited him, you have to say when talking to Sara Lyons "FAWKES WILL DO IT" if you already say that you will do it then talk to Fawkes he will say it was meant for you to do, the choice you make with Sara is well your final choice (If you don't got DLC... BUT I DOOOO!)

I don't understand the huge hate towards this ending... Yeah it doesn't make logical sense but this is the fallout universe we're talking about here.

I thought it was quite good, as the ending you get depended on whether you sacrificed yourself or forced someone else to do it.

Oh well I never had the amended ending from the DLC... I always sacrificed myself anyway.

A nobel death.

That's all it is.
I thought it was radiation, not dynamite.
Like a Samurai being overwhelmed on a bridge between his lord and a host of enemies.

The 300 slaughtered to a man after days of heroic resistance.

If you don't understand these concepts, don't worry, you a free from the burden of honour.
There are three people standing outside of a room filled with radiation and one of them needs to go into the room to stop a massive explosion.

Of the three people, one is immune to radiation. There is literally no reason for anyone but the person who is immune to enter that room.

Entering the room yourself at that point is not honor, it's stupidity.
