I don't understand the huge hate towards this ending... Yeah it doesn't make logical sense but this is the fallout universe we're talking about here.

I thought it was quite good, as the ending you get depended on whether you sacrificed yourself or forced someone else to do it.

Oh well I never had the amended ending from the DLC... I always sacrificed myself anyway.

I really didn't have a problem with it aside from the aforementioned scenario. I don't get why people were so up in arms about it not being an open ending. Not every story needs an open ending. Sometimes you need a closed one to have a satisfying climax. So to me, the closed ending wasn't a problem. It certainly could have been done better, but it wasn't the worst part of the game.

But it's when you have a partner with you that it really falls apart. You can have several companions that are only marginally affected by radiation, or completley immune. Other times they are brainwashed to obey your every command. Yet before Broken Steel you could never send them in, even when it was perfectly logical to do so. There's no reason I should sacrifice myself when there's a radiation proof robot standing 2 feet away from me. That's just stupid. I can understand Butch refusing to go in, but Fawkes? All the reasons given for companions like him are infuriating bullshit, which is a really bad thing to deal with at the end of the game. Sure it's not as dramatic if nobody dies in the purifier, but that's one of the things that could have been done better. An ending shouldn't necessarily require death to be satisfying.

What platform were you playing it on, might I ask?

Also, yeah the ending was a bit of a shame. But I suppose it fits into the whole spectrum of 'honor' and that sort of stuff. Though it was a bit disappointing, it didn't bring the game down too much.

Hehehehe.. I remember this! My favourite ending is still waiting for the purifier to explode in my face, killing me and all my followers, dooming the wasteland even further ^^

Ahh, good times, good times.

Finished the main game (100%/Plat) last night (no DLC) after a fun 8 hours marathon of freezing, lag, graphics not loading and other glitching problems.

But I just don't understand the ending at all:

(SPOILERS)

Fawkes said less than 30 minutes prior that he can handle extreme radiation. Yet it's you whom has to go into the Radiated room of Project Purity and do all the work. Um. Why couldn't you have just sent him instead? (Ok. Fair enough if you didn't recruit him.)

Just seemed a bit stupid when that option was there yet you wander in and get yourself killed.
I know. It's weird. He said he didn't want to rob you of your destiny. But still, he could've gone in. Possibly, he wanted you dead.

(SPOILERS)

For a conscious super mutant, who you released from a medical testing facility, he sounded a bit careless, if you died or not. I chose the good side and sacrificed myself. Still, I don't know what happens on the evil side. Maybe Lyons goes in and screws everything up.

You are more of a pansy then a patsy.

Go do something else with your time.

You obviously cannot have a real exchange with people younger than 30.

EDIT: What the hell are you talking about?

Is this just a scam for more downloads??1!!
What are YOU talking about?

If you've recruited him talk to the girl and say Fawkes can do it, then talk to Fawkes and say "go in their and blah blah... the password is 216"
this means you can't do the Enclave ending but whatever.[/quoteTY
He just said he didn't have the DLC so it's impossible for him.
i got the game of the year edition, i thought the Fawkes ending was part of the normal game. now i look like an idiot.
we all make mistakes, no worries. Sorry if I sounded harsh, but I'm on my iPod so I keep most posts short and to the point.
You didn't really sound harsh, but short and to the point.

the irony of people arguing that the ending is "bullshit" because of the companionship problem is laughable.

If you are not going to play the DLC then does it really matter? you get the same result if you get sahara to sacrifice herself even so if you do get sahara killed it doesn't really matter in the DLC as she only appears (awake) the ending of BS and she doesn't do ANYTHING!

Oh god that ending. I went through the main quest pretty quickly and didn't bother exploring or doing side quests much cause I thought I'd just get the story out of the way early. After the ridiculous ending I just didn't feel like it anymore and haven't put the game in my PS3 since. >.<
