[b/]discussion vale[/b] before you acuse me of trolling or being an idiot (the latter is ok) do you hold it against "new" fans for liking the "rebooted" version of your favorite IP? do you think people should try and aproach things with more sunjectivity than nostalga/emotion?
I don't hold it against the new fans, they're just liking what they like, but I do hold it against the designers.
My objection to the new Dante isn't that they changed him, but that they changed him into something so bland. I got into the Devil May Cry games because Dante was a bit different from the sea of moody, foul-mouthed, angry, generic guys who were desperately trying to be macho and rebellious. The fact that he seemed to be having fun with it all and took most of the stuff going on around him as a joke made him stand out a bit.
Also the new soundtrack isn't my sort of music, the world looks a bit too brown and the half-angel-half-demon thing sounds a bit fan-ficy.

After playing the demo, i had finally some idea what the new Dante had to offer. I never really played the older games, but I had a basic idea what they were and knew that it was a solid series. I really liked the game play of the game, although the switch mechanic was a bit weird at first. The rest of the game on the other hand.... really sucked. the art design is horrible and the dialogue and Characters were ridiculous. I have no problem with swearing at all, but it felt so forced. "Oooh, look at me all being edgy and brutal!". The endboss was supposedly 1200 years old, but that didn't stop her from saying 'fuck' and 'whore' all the time. Damn lady, have some dignity. And it was laughable that they wanted to make Vergil some kind of 'Anonymous' person. So overall, gameplay is cool, the rest was bad and not because I think they are getting away of the roots of the series. I don't know these roots. I have a basic understanding and most of it comes from MvC3.

Personally, I've never purchased a Devil May Cry game because I thought Dante was an interesting character. If they replaced him in cutscenes with Hulk Hogan it wouldn't have negatively affected how I viewed the game. Hell, Dante was a different character for me in each game anyway - if they changed his hair-colour and clothing style I think I wouldn't even have thought them to be the same man.

If the game has fun battles where I get to slash demons into the air and juggling them on top of bullets and casual sword-swings I really don't think I would begin to care how Dante looked.

Well I just finished the new DmC demo and I must say it's freaking amazing, loved it.

As for the new Dante having only played a bit of the DmC HD C my opinion is probably worthless to most of you but I think new Dante is a bad ass... Just that bit where he flying kicks the big ugly Resi 5 boss monster reject and says "Succubus, suck on this!" I was laughing... That line sold me on the new DmC...

Hell, I don't hate the new Vergil. All I see is a blonde guy in a leather coat, not the Lady Gaga reject everyone else seems to see.

I don't hate him but as far as I'm concerned "Dante" for me will always be the character from DMC 1-4. As for the demo, I could go into detail about my feelings regarding the voice acting, the level design, the overall aesthetic, the controls, the angel/demon weapon mechanic but I'll just sum up my feelings by saying I had a ton of fun playing it.

One thing I'll never forgive though, is the lack of a lock on button. Makes focusing on a single enemy a lot finickier than it needs to be. They could've removed one of the two evade buttons and made it into a lock on button easily.

As a non DMC fan I was going to give this a chance to change my mind. Their cool level design seemed like it was doing all the work but then they put the brilliant writing "Name's Dante but you can call me Dante the Demon Killer! Has a nice ring don't you think?"

No. No it doesn't.
Strike 1, 2, and 3.
I don't want nothing to do with that dialogue. D=

At least "Fill your dark soul with light!" is funny, and pretty intense if you want to ride the melodrama train (and I am a fan of that train).

I am the only one I find funny the fact his first appearance wasn't in his game, but in a Cross-over Fighting game? XD

Yes, DMC is indeed one of my favorite IP's. I own every PS2 game, bought the HD edition, and just went out yesterday to buy DMC4 again (Since I never owned it, only borrowed it.)
That being said. I don't mind whether or not anyone likes the new Dante. It's an entirely subjective preference after all. And people seem to forget that Dante was rather inconsistent in his personality through the old games as well.

As much as I liked the old games, Dante was always 'hit or miss' with me. It always was the gameplay that drew me to the series, not Dante. I enjoyed his personality in DMC1 and 4, but found him to be an infuriating douchebag in DMC3 - Which is conversely my favorite DMC.
Personally, I found Nero to be much, much more unbearable than the new Dante is.

Basically, I'm hoping this game bombs hard enough to make Capcom rethink things and make a proper DMC 5.
Isn't there a chance that this game's failure may cause Capcom to bury the series in the dirt and never make a new one ever again?

My only experience with Dante is from DMC 4, and honestly, I kinda dug his carefree I-don't-give-a-shit attitude. The man embraced the insanity of everything around him and played along. He seemed to have fun, is what I'm saying. Also, he looked more healthy than our anorexic new friend.

For me its all about the escapism (Do I get cookies for saying that :p)

Old Dante pretty much represents who I would love to be i.e. a sexy, wise-cracking bad-ass.
New Dante looks and acts like someone who would beat me up at High school for the lolz...

Rather irritatingly though I did quite enjoy the gameplay of DmC in the demo so It may be the case where I'll have to leave my preciousness at the door before playing.

I recently played the demo and enjoyed it. The game itself seems pretty good.

I don't like new Dante. I can still remember the first time I played the original and I loved it. I also loved 2. 3 a little less and 4 was still good.

The new Dante is an irritating little tosser, and I have to say that judging by the demo, this is the easiest of the DMC games. Granted old Dante was hardly the greatest character in the history of games, but he was fun! The first time I played Devil May Cry, the main moment I remember is Dante getting Alastor! That scene was fucking awesome! If they tried anything like that with the new character then I'd probably get angry that he DIDN'T die!

And what the hell is the deal with Mundus!? Why was there any need to remake him and Vergil? I didn't see ANY need to reboot the story at all!

The MOST disappointing thing about it for me has to be the ease of it though. Devil Trigger is just silly, on top of that the combat is simple, the boss on the demo was just pathetic! All of the attacks used by said boss are incredibly predictable and easy to dodge.

I have no problem with people enjoying the game or anything. What I dislike is the blatant disregard for the current fans of the series!

Two games that would have been better than the new DmC?

One that takes place at the end of Devil May Cry 2, chronicling Dante's move into hell. That would be awesome.
OR One that could elaborate a bit more on Vergil.

Hell one that explained a bit more about Nero's past would be better than this!

Well I actually liked Nero the most for some unknown reason, must be that awesome arm of his. :D

The point is that I don't give a carp about Dante or his looks. I am still loving the game play and I am going to pre-order it soon. ^.^
Nero had great gameplay he was just a bit of a whiny pussy. Also didn't kill most of the bosses, Dante had to mop them all up for him. But I don't hate Nero, he's a decent character.

I don't mind new Dante either, it remains to be seen if he is as good as old Dante though, since I haven't played all the new DMC. Wanna here more about that PC port first > >

I found the demo piss easy until I tried it on son of sparda. Then it strayed into "cheap hits" territory, because the dodging is a bit off and the auto-lock on is a bit retarded when it wants to be and plays god with the camera.

Needs manual lock on. And royal guard.... I need my block + well timed counter instakills.

It's rumored you can bump up the FPS to 60 from 30. Unfortunately, it has no release date yet.

I like how Mundus (dapper business exec rather than demon pretending to be God) and Vergil (we get more backstory for him rather than what original DMC did, and he at least has light colored hair) were handled, though Dante is definitely a mess. Ninja Theory had an idea for Dante (quiet, abused by demons, smoking) until they changed him for the fans into something they still don't like (says one-liners lined with slurs and middle fingers rather than Ninja Turtle phrases).

Biggest problem for me is no lock on. It's what made doing all the special moves so easy. I've played the demo a couple times and I just recently learned how to do the stinger.

We'll you've perfectly expressed why the reboot happened. Classic Dante was based on Japanese sensibilities about fashion and attractiveness. New Dante is based on Western gritty action heroes so round-eyes could identify with him better.

You are the audience the new Dante is aimed at. There's nothing inherently wrong with that. However, rebooting a character in both appearance, history, and personality just to "broaden the demographic" is a prospect I find personally offensive, especially when the people responsible for the reboot have attacked those who are bothered by it.

Additionally, there was no need for it. They wanted to utilize the Devil May Cry brand with a more Western star? Fine, make a new character. Make him a Dante rip-off in every way, make him look like Nathan Drake or something, but don't sit there and tell us that this is the same guy.

All I have to say is.. what would people say if they made Mario look like Raiden all of a sudden. Same game-play, same name, but now Mario is a white-haired cyberninja platforming through a war-torn Tokyo. Think the fans who condemned this would be getting as shit on as the DMC/Dante fans are? I think not.

Yeah I don't want to bump it to 60 I want to push it past 60 if possible. That said, I'm not usually a whore for frame rate and 30 to me is the playable limit so long as it doesn't dip suddenly below that, but in the new DMC the animation seemed juddery and sluggish, and I can't help but feel the frame rate compromise is why. Gonna wait and see for that PC spec though, uncapped frame rate, controller support and graphics tweaking will sell me the PC port.

I did the stinger by accident! Then had to check the menu to find out how to do it! I think they should include a "legacy" option for controls or something with a manual lock-on, it'd fix up most issues I had with combat.

Eh that's your thing. I'm not gonna judge you for it, but in terms of gameplay, the new DmC has some things it needs to work on. Namely it's combo system and difficulty curve.

Still though maybe it's just the fact that the old DMCs weren't wanting to stay grounded in a realistic and gritty sense that I loved them. Sure it was Dark and Morbid, but the old Dante kinda strolled into it with that Devil May Care attitude which in my opinion was a burst of sunshine in contrast to the constant, "DEEP, DARK and BROODING" characters who are a dime a dozen in most action games.

Eh I just don't like the new Dante because he just tries too hard...way too hard...go rot in Hell Ninja Theory.
