All we need to know is that the Internet has intervened in the Sony vs Hackers lawsuits, and shit is going to get fucked up really quick.

The Collective is best described as Chaotic Neutral [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ChaoticNeutral].

You don't really know who they're going to go for next, much less if they deserve it.
I would disagree. Firstly, because they set off my evildar, and secondly, because they love destruction. Chaotic neutral wants anyone to be free to discourse themselves as they so choose. Chaotic evil believes that "Might makes right". They are cruel and petty children.
I'm not so sure they actually love destruction.

They don't set the world on fire, just to watch it burn, which is what Chaotic Evil would do.

There's always some sort of goal, and reasoning behind it, even if one doesn't always agree with it.

Ok ill settle for Type 1 Chaotic Evil [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ChaoticEvil].

Type 1 places more emphasis on Chaotic than Evil, believing that their own freedom is the most important thing. They're far from being a noble person (they're still Evil after all), but they value the ability to commit acts of evil over actually committing them. As a result, this type of character can actually side with the forces of Good in the fight for freedom. Don't turn your back though, because this also means that two seconds from now their idea of freedom may change and they'll become your worst enemy. Given a lot of patience, a crapload of love, a sprinkling of luck, and a great big stick, a Type 1 may gradually reform into Chaotic Neutral or even Chaotic Good, but don't hold your breath.
Which is why they need to be smited. Really if they did something productive with their time, the world would be a better place

Love'em or hate them, I'm pretty sure they will play a big part in history when the time comes.

Are they Evil or Good?
Are you being totally serious? Calling any one thing good or evil outside of religion, mythology and games is a bit ridiculous.

I have no idea what their agenda is, but I am growing in support of groups that oppose large corporations.

They certainly aren't the good guys. As others have said, they just go against people who they don't like, whether they're in the right or wrong. They don't care who they're annoying in the process. Personally I dislike them, and get sick of hearing about their silly denial of service attacks. Although, that said, the people who anger anonymous are just as idiotic.

Chaotic Neutral.

There's a reasoning behind everything they do, even if it's incomprehensible and inconsistent to anyone but themselves.

EDIT: Also, I like them. Most of the people and corporations I hear about them attacking deserved SOMETHING bad to come their way, though perhaps not what Anon was dishing out.

Cowards are what they are.

I'm pretty sure the vast majority of Anonymous wouldn't do a damn thing if they had to show up to a protest something in person.
I actually saw an in person anti-Scientology protest by Anonymous in Melbourne last year.

I think they have to be taken on a case by case basis. They sort of represent us, the internet users, and I guess are kind of our vigilante force. So I think we have a responsibility for them, and if they act in a way that we don't like, we have to say, "No. This is not what we want you to do."
And they were still anonymous. Anybody can do anything if there is no accountibility and consequences for their actions.
They could have easily been arrested if they had done anything illegal. I mean online they are anonymous, but in this one case individuals went out to represent the group. So in this one case study, they were taking responsibility

Well, not good. Not neutral, somewhat cyber terrorists so i don't think they're the good guys
Terrorism

1)
The deliberate commission of an act of violence to create an emotional response through the suffering of the victims in the furtherance of a political or social agenda.

2)
Violence against civilians to achieve military or political objectives.

3)
A psychological strategy of war for gaining political or religious ends by deliberately creating a climate of fear among the population of a state.

Then add Cyber in front.

Basically, On-line Terrorism.

Whatever a persons opinion of what Anon does, calling it "Cyber terrorism" is vague at best.

The definitions of the word are either as strict as Terrorism, or as open as "Any computer crime involving a network".

Clearly, the latter is a fair bit too open.

Anonymous is a working model of anarchy. It is neither evil nor good, but rather it is the morality of the mob. It can do great good but more often results harm.

Unlike me, humans (and other mortals) are neither good nor Evil.
They're neither morally black nor morally white. (This has nothing to do with skin color)
They're all just worthless and boring shades of gray.

I think that exposing companies like HBGary and taking down Westboro Baptist Church makes them undeniably good.

You never played Fallout New Vegas, huh? Good guys and bad guys are fairy tales. In fact, good and bad aren't natural concepts; they're someone's opinions.

What people don't get about anonymous is they aren't good or evil. They're just anonymous. They may be powerful, but besides following a few general guidelines they have no specific side. They aren't one group, they are an amorphous mass of people and entities. Sometimes they're good, sometimes they aren't. Don't judge anonymous for any one thing it does.
EDIT: I mean, don't judge them at all, really.

You basically have to take their actions at face value and judge their moral code with each step they take.
Making blanket statements about them being the good guys would be naive.

Anonymous are just a bunch of bored teenagers. Generally socially inept (although, not all of them of course) and a bit cringeworthy. I agree with a few of their fights, but they also target innocent people simply "for the lulz". Trolling an internet forum is fine - but deliberately harrassing someone in real life, either through facebook etc., is simply unacceptable.

In my opinion, it's all shades of grey, you can't really define something as truly 'good' or 'evil', as it's all from the point of view of an individual. No doubt someone else has already posted something to this effect anyway~ Still, if you want to try and see the world in black and white, go ahead, it's your life, make your own opinions on stuff, etc etc - I guess you'll just have to avoid thinking about the morally confusing stuff though.
