There was this comic I saw recently - it's from Overcompensating, and I think it's the current latest one, and since I can't post it here, here's the basic gist of the comic:
"You know, I don't like a lot of things. Other people like those things, but I find they just not for me.
So.
I'm going to go on to the internet and find people who like the thing I dislike. I will tell them I dislike it. I'm sure it's fine for them, but I don't like what they like. I think the most useful way for me to spend my time is to SPECIFICALLY FIND PEOPLE WHO ARE VERY LIKELY TO LIKE THE THING I DISLIKE, AND THEN TELL THEM I DISLIKE IT. Nothing can go wrong, right?"
(10 hours later):
"ARGH! Why won't these people accept the fact that I don't like what they like! And I HAVE to tell them I don't like it.... it's useful, vital information. I don't need to give concrete reasons I disliked it, I just have to say I don't like it, and immediately I expect a fruitful and thoughtful conversation to follow!"
Now, look, I've been guilty of the above, most people have. But I think it's about time we stopped. So you don't like game X. Okay, that's fine. Why don't you like Game X? Will explaining your dislike of Game X drive the conversation anywhere?
Lately, these sorts of threads have been popping up all over the damn place. Barely a day can go by, without a "I don't like Game X/Musician Y/ Film Z or Book V" thread. Unless your dislike can be pinpointed down to a specific mechanic, character, phrase or rhythm, the conversation is useless and doesn't go anywhere, and will devolve into pointless fan-flaming and trolling and overreactions.
Now, had you said: "I don't like Half life, for these reasons, and here is how I think I can improve the game", then you're getting somewhere. The conversation serves a purpose. Everyone dislikes something. Knowing that, in itself, is useless. We all know that all people will never love all games at all times.
In response to your question..... I don't really like Final Fantasy VIII very much. Mostly due to the combat system - I just didn't like it. All the talk of Junction-ing and GF's and drawing magic was annoying to me, and I didn't like the fact that all random encounter enemies would always level up with you. I dislike all fighting games as well. As in, all fighting games. I dislike a LOT OF STUFF. I hate certain shades of green, and I dislike pink. I don't like spiders or gangsters. I dislike the taste of Mustard. I hate Justin Bieber's haircut. I can't stand anything Lady Gaga does, period. I dislike hot days and very cold days, I don't like mud on my shoes, I hate Comic Sans font and I really, really can't stand the feeling of a hard-boiled egg in my mouth when I'm eating one (it feels like a slimy eyeball in my mouth). I dislike newspapers that have opinionated headlines, I dislike people who listen to their music on the bus with the volume way up, I dislike wasps and dirty Garden shears and algae in my pool. I didn't think much of "The Green Hornet", "Avatar", or "E.T" and I also don't like books such as "Gravity's Rainbow", "Dice man", and "Pride and Prejudice".
We all dislike a lot of things.
The Chances are: something you like, someone else hates. EEEVVVVVEEERRRYYYYYY ONE is different. EVERY ONE has different tastes. There really isn't anything such as "good" taste or "bad" taste, there's just personal taste. What you like or dislike, depends on YOU.
