Better graphics, better and more precise controls, mod tools, often smoother framerates and usually cheaper games. If it's a PC-exclusive game you'll usually also get larger zones due to more RAM and bigger disks. Plus, when you consider that most people will have a non-gaming PC anyway, the cost of making it a gaming PC is comparable with the cost of a console.
You might wanna change that thread title, it's pretty inflammatory and might kick off another battle in the ongoing PC vs console war.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and (usually) fewer foulmouthed, screaming kids.

...Hooray for you I guess?

Basically I'd just be rehashing everything said before, but PCs are above and beyond in terms of graphics and fidelity, once you ease into mouse and keyboard, it's a lot more intuitive, most games eventually get ported over to PC anyway.
Over here, there's a solid £10 difference in PC games compared to the more pricey console games and it's a hell of a lot cheaper now to build a solid gaming rig that'll last you several years.

Hell I still own a PS3 and a 360, but that's because PCs can't do split screen, the consoles are mainly there for when I have friends round for a drinking sesh.

Anyone who thinks one is superior to the other is full of it.
I'm an elitist bastard, but I ain't full of it.

Way I see it, the PC platform can let you sit back on a couch, with a wireless controller and a 42"-2560x1440, but added to that you get all the other functionality it provides.

I'll give you that it can be more expensive, but if you're European and buy more than 18 games a month, you can easily self-build a good PC, and keep it updated, for less cash than you save by buying for PC instead of Console.

And no, building your own PC does not require a massive amount of knowledge. Google is your friend, and YouTube exists for a reason. Plenty of places to get free quality assistance.

There's only one thing that a Console lets you do that PCs don't do, which is split-screen play.

The PC is perfectly capable of it though.
Nope. You're full of it.

Gaming is about entertaining yourself. The best entertainment I've ever gotten out of games has been console games. And yes... I've played PC games.

There's no reason to be an elitist. None. Where does it get you? Hm?

So although you didn't word it in a "high and mighty" way, which, gotta say, I appreciate it, let's pretend you did so I can target all elitists. Just don't take it personally.

STOP ACTING ALL HIGH AND MIGHTY. It doesn't make you better. It doesn't make you a superior gamer. And if you think it does, YOU ARE FULL OF IT. End of story.

That being said, I'd say the same to console elitists.

You have to upgrade it every year instead of every 5-6 years.

...that's about it.
No, i haven't upgraded my rig in half a decade. still kicking ass at ultra settings. That is a myth to scare people against the "big bad computers."
And how much did you pay for it?

That's what I thought.

Uh... it gets you into the elite? You seem to have this backwards. People don't act better because they think it will make them better. People are better, and then act appropriately.

Likewise, sticking your fingers in your ears and yelling "LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" doesn't make you equal.

Honestly, with the graphics plateau, rise of Steam and cheaper costs of games, the biggest deterrent to PC gaming by this point... is the PC Gaming community. They aren't exactly a warm and welcoming bunch. They've had their heads up their asses so long because it used to take effort to be a PC Gamer, that now that it's easier for people to get into PC gaming, they don't WANT more people getting into PC gaming. Think the casual/hardcore split going on in the console market, but with 3 extra generation's worth of self-important douchebaggery elitism.

It's all personal preference. I just find the controls, online play, multitude of PC exclusive games and the ability to crank the graphics up to eleven to be major pluses. Also, Steam. That is all.

EDIT: AND MODS! How the hell did I forget that?

So just because they play on PC, they're better people? What the hell? Grow up. Life doesn't work that way. If you think it does, you're disgustingly and disturbingly deluded.

Mods, sales, the fact that it basically does all my shit plus gaming, MMOs, better controls (imo), one less electronic to buy/upgrade, graphics, etc.

Why do you prefer consoles?

Really, does it make any difference? I've got a fairly good PC (which didn't cost a lot and was fairly easy to put together once I'd done a bit of research) and a small collection of consoles (including the one I stil play the most, the Super Nintendo) and I play them both. It depends on what you are after. For FPS I play the PC because of the mouse/keyboard thing. Other than that, most games I will get on whatever.

Although, on reflection, I do make fun of my friends in real life for playing on console, but it's just to be intentionally petty. Mocking people is fun!

Nothing life changing on the PC, it's just lots of little things that just make it a lot better and more worth it. So I'll make a nice long boring list.
No silly monthly subscriptions *glares at the Xbox360* - Yes i know it's been said a billion times but it's still a valid point. I already pay for the internet Why do I have to pay you even more? If i wanted to waste money on monthly subscription fees I'd go play WoW. No wait I already do on a MODDED - FREE server.
Which brings me onto topic 2 - mods and user made content made easy. Sure the latest halo games had forge - good for them. But the best editor I saw on a console was far cry 2's. I mean really now - look at team fortress 2. If I wanted all those maps, extra content after release I'd have had to pay a bazillion 'Microsoft points' for all the extra DLC they'd wave in front of your face.

I think one of my fave arguments as a PC nerd is just to be able to say if something goes wrong 90% I can fix it and fix it myself - no sending it off because of the constant red-ring of death and other fun crashes. Just replace or upgrade the graphics card, micro manage the files a little and bam you got it working again.

It's just easier in the long run, why should I make it harder for myself by playing a machine that I know won't work later?

OK I got the xbox out of the way now for the others, Wii - well.... Yeah I'm not going there.
And the PS3 I actually like and own one. But only because of it's exclusive games.

600-700$. Little over the price of a launch PS3. They can be as cheap as you want, but you only go expensive like 700$ when you need processing power for computer modeling and NON gaming things.

Anyone who says computers are 1,000$ are Either:
A) scammers.
B) Computer modelers or someone who actually DOES something on them other than dicking around on facebook and playing games. These are people who need that power for actual work.
OR
C) australian.

... still worth it though.

Yeah, FPS, RPGs, and RTS I prefer on PC. Consoles are better for third person action, racing, and adventure games. Those genres just feel... wrong on the opposite platforms.

I don't play games on my PC because A.) it is usually rendering if I'm not using it otherwise, and B.) my hands don't like the un-ergonomic setup of my laptop, and they hurt.
