Today i was watching the news [which is rare] anyway there was this report on this portrait of Matt Moran.

The Picture
://www.abc.net.au/reslib/201104/r748247_6181763.jpg

anyway at the end of the Report on Television the news reader had to say 'This wasnt made to offend Vegetarians' that was the gist of it, ive been looking for the report for a while. ANYWAY i really hate that, i understand that they have to clarify but they shouldn't have too. Is everyone so paranoid that if we all have to say nothing mean about a Minority otherwise get sued By the Political Correctness people.

Its the Same with 'Bah Bah Black Sheep' if i said this in a classroom im a Racist.

[Just to clarify im not trying to be offensive or rude. Its just a Observation.]

The Goody two shoes just need to bloody get over them selves.

What are your thoughts on Political Correct people?\
do you think they go to Far?

Actually, no, the stuff about "Bah Bah black sheep" being banned in classrooms came up a few times over the last few decades, made up by various "news" agencies with agendas of their own.

Political correctness is important. Like everything else, it can, and will be implemented badly at times, but the basic idea of not disrespecting other people through ignorance or malice is an important one.

I do find some political correctness to be good and it does help to keep people from worrying about what should they call a certain group of people but I agree that peole are starting to go overboard with it. It can confusing at times because some times people do not like the politicly correct term applied to their ethic group or cultral background, plus sometimes people can just be overly sensitive and that doesn't help.
But overall, I like it to some degree and I try to use it.

OK, I have to know, was this deliberate?

Did you make a joke that went over my head, or did you just do the exact same thing you're complaining about in your own post?

[Just to clarify, this is not an insult, it is a genuine question.]

A noble goal, but in attempting it, you ended up coming off as something of a hypocrite.

I don't mean to antagonize; I completely agree with you, this nonsense has to end soon, or half the dictionary will be off limits because a farmer in Brazil takes offense to it or something.

I just thought it was hilarious. To use an overused expression, I laughed out loud.

That is so fucking stupid. Really, I figure it was something offensive, probably has a history of it. But what the hell, I can't tell if that is sad or funny. Going to go with funny, because that is going overboard.
I lol when i read about it

No, no, no it is not. Only in insane right wing newspapers is it 'rainbow sheep'. There is NOTHING racist about black sheep as tradionally 'black sheep' are.. well... just a feckin black sheep.

Thats what kept appearing in the newspapers where i lived RaINBOW sheep.

Bah bah Niggersheep. That would be racist.

Or if the black sheep was rorting the welfare system. I don't think that's in the original rhyme though. Having said that, most kids stories and rhymes originally started off rather un-PC, or are said to have been by later historians.

Sigh, there has to be a limit for craps sake. You don't use the n word when you are white in front of a black guy, I'm ok with that and I understand the why. But why the hell can I not say black man and have to say "coloured person", and no this isn't bullshit, that's the term used in Spain and good god I find it even more offensive.

Basically, I'm in the camp that except for some words that carry a very real stigma, the rest should be treated with humour and satire, there are stereotypes of all our etnicities and they can be hillarious if people manage to take them as that, satire and not disdain.

Ok I?m probably going to be ignored but this has to be hammered in. The whole "Bah Bah Black Sheep" story is fake. It was something the daily mail made up so stop using it as an example of why political correctness is bad.

in Australia it was a huge thing i believe its changed over here at least and i was using that as a example on any case. Principal remains the same

Oh dear Alan, you've fallen into our little trap. [http://www.glastonbridge.co.uk/flash/q.php?i=Baa+Baa+Black+Sheep+is+Racist]

A controversy emerged over changing the language of 'Baa Baa Black Sheep' in Britain from 1986, because, it was alleged in the popular press, it was seen as racially dubious. This was, as Curran, Pently and Gaber indicate, based only on a rewriting of the rhyme in one private nursery as an exercise for the children there and not on any local government policy.[4] A similar controversy emerged in 1999 when reservations about the rhyme were submitted to Birmingham City Council by a working group on racism in children's resources, which were never approved or implemented.[5] Two private nurseries in Oxfordshire in 2006 altered the song to "Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep", with black being replaced with a variety of other adjectives, like "happy, sad, hopping" and "pink".[6] Commentators have asserted that these controversies have been exaggerated or distorted by some elements of the press as part of a more general campaign for political correctness.[4]
