not only do they have to worry about being killed by the courier (because I kill alot of them) but also because they have to worry about being killed by their own leaders, and they are pretty mcuh glorified slaves having been brainwashed and brutalised into being that was most of the time from when they were young...its not like they had much of a choice

so who do you feel sorry for? (no fallout NV spoilers please)

Well, in that world -everyone- would be constantly worried about being killed by anyone(/thing).

Just like in any great empire's armies, if they failed they were killed. As a result they were bred to be extra-ordinary soldiers, so efficient in war that the empire's borders grew massively. This was the case for the Persians, Romans, Mongols etc etc.. Just as it is for Caesar's Legion in New Vegas. They have conquered most of North America, and run (from chatting with the people) a very very efficient and orderly empire.

I feel sorry for the Legion because they are SO sorely mis-understood and 'demonised' in this game. I support them 100%

Population control, genetic extermination or 'diseased/impure' (as the Legion believes most Western Americans are) genocide. I do not condone genocide in the slightest, but it wasn't just meaningless extermination. They had fair goals, and as a result those who survive the Legion's war live in a safe empire

The Soviet Conscripts from the Red Alert series. Basically, just some guy in a Russian coat and hat carrying an AK-47. They get sent up against tanks with lasers mounted on them, giant samurai mechas, tanks big enough to run over other tanks and psionic Japanese school girls. Before Red Alert 3 they were at least effective in large numbers, but most anti-infantry units can now chew through them incredibly quickly.

Oh yes, and in Red Alert 2 they would sometimes scream for their mothers just before dying. These guys get fucked over more than the Imperial Guard.

IF they did particularly badly, they could be punished by decimation, where 1 in 10 or 1 in 5 is beaten to death by the losers.

Though, if your side lost, you'd be likely to be killed by the enemy anyway, you'd not have to worry about things like that all that much.

Ray is Missile after an alternate past in which he died and got ghost powers, failed to save anyone's life, went back ten years in an attempt to stop the whole chain of events, but then had no choice but to live (or, "exist") out the ten years once again until he could get Sissel to help. That must REALLY suck; coming to the slow realization that you're so useless you can't save the life of anyone you love, and then having to spend a whole ten years in the hollow world of the dead.
