Hello again fellow Escapist,
Now I know some may kill me and some may actually agree with me but I must confess that I do find Skyrim kind of boring. The main quest itself with the Dragonborn just feels short and most bits pointless like the Blades doing "f'all". Stormcloaks vs Imperials? Why do I have to pick a side? I hate them both equally to be honest. The side quest are fine but some just repeats itself. Find an ancient weapon with great power, kill the ancient king in the dungeon first and then you great weapon which you then realise isn't as powerful as the weapon I already have now.

Okay that's just a few of my thoughts, What do you think and yes you can have a go at me for thinking Skyrim is boring lol

As a dungeon crawler it's pretty fun, but as an real RPG it falls flat on it's ass.

The world of Skyrim feels sorta lifeless and empty despite all the nice-ish visuals. And NPCs blurting out the exact same dialoge everytime when you pass them feels like you're in a nordic version of Westworld. It would've been better if they didn't say anything unless you spoke to them first. "Mead, mead, mead... Would it kill them to get some beer. Stupid bees and their stupid honey."

And nothing story-related you do seems to have any impact on the public at all. Again, the worst example is when you become head of the Dark Brotherhood, and the Thieves Guild treats you like some whipper snapper when you apply, eventhough these two organisations have extremely close ties.

The Mojave Wasteland in New Vegas felt way more brimming with life than Skyrim despite it being, well, a wasteland.

It's not the best RPG, or ES game by far but I do enjoy it anyway.

I don't know why and if I did I probably wouldn't be able to explain it.

I love the Elder Scrolls and have not completed a main quest once. The beauty and fun is finding side quests, easter eggs and cool stuff scattered along the way!

Skyrim, by itself, is only interesting for a short while. It will get boring, and samey after several dozen hours. Mods, however. That's what keeps the games longevity up. Provided you're on the PC, hit up the Skyrim Nexus, and browse around and find stuff that interests you. When you mod Skyrim, then you'll find it much less boring.

I thought Skyrim was pretty boring (emphasis on the pretty, it's nice looking), and Oblivion is my favourite Elder Scrolls game so my taste of what is boring and what is not must be flawed. I think my main problem with it is the characters, all of them seem to be very depressed or (in the case of children) very arrogant. Call the monotone of the Oblivion NPC's tedious if you must but at least they didn't make me feel as dull as the landscape. The best part of Skyrim for me was venturing into some base and finding a table with a map of Skyrim on it, with flags telling me who owns which area because that told me what was going on, the guards all look the same so I wouldn't be able to tell whether I'd be welcome in a city or not without that map.

I felt the same about Skyrim as pretty much all Bethesda games. A huge beautiful world full of things to do...except most of it bored me to tears.

A prime example of quantity over quality. Meh combat, the same character models, the same voice actors who deliver lines with as much enthusiasm as reciting an eye-chart, dry, insipid dialogue, and the overwhelming impression that nothing you do makes a blind bit of difference to the world.

Yeah.
My main problem was with the writing. There were very few characters who I felt like had lives outside of sitting on chair and giving me quests.
Also you didn't have any real impact on the world.

I find the civil war interesting, but the way it's presented and told, not so much.
Also some bugs really took me out of it. Not the big stuff, like dragons flying funny, but something like the shopkeepers constantly calling me a nord even though I was Argonian.

I play my games on my PS3 but I think in the near future I will get a gaming PC cause it seems like you can do more on there with a faster processor and mods. Even with GTA, mods make that games more fun

Hmm, then I'd say you're shit out of luck, to put it bluntly. More than half the appeal of the Elder Scrolls for me, and many others, is the modding scenes. Without those, Elder Scrolls is only half (or less) of the overall experience you can get out of it.

Don't I know it. I need a massive PC upgrade.

Get's boring after several dozens of hours . Considering that most games come out at the same price with 6-10 hours of contente , i think that's pretty damn good .

OT: Skyrim feels huge and lifeless but you do only notice after like 40 hours of playing it. It starts off strong , but then the novelty wears off . I think the problem is the world is too big . If it was 3/4 the size with more interesting world and activities going on , it would be amazing. That being said , with the amount of content we get it's worth every penny , especially since it's no longer costs 60$

If we're counting video games as a whole, then sure. But if we're specifically talking about RPG's, then not so much. You still get your monies worth out of vanilla Skyrim, no doubt, but there is so much more than the vanilla experience that can add hundreds of hours on top of it all. That's where I'm coming from.

After 600 hours of skyrim I have narrowed my mod collection down to 62 of the best and its made it a whole new game. That's one of the greatest things about Skyrim, if you don't like it there's a mod to change it. I tend to roleplay my characters a bit too, I have a battlemage who is holier than thou and wouldn't steal a crumb to save herself, An orc warrior who has a vendetta against the forsworn and a thief who is all about the loot amongst others. I dunno if that makes a me a little odd but it gets me more immersed into the game and I don't tend to notice its flaws. I am still finding cool new stuff too. The other day I found the three billy goats gruff complete with dead troll under the bridge, that cracked me up! Like BathorysGraveland2 said, Skyrim Nexus is your friend.

I played Morrowind on Xbox for a year and half.
Heh.

I have to put up this counter point regarding mods though, based on my own experiences and opinion.
They are great and all, but coming from someone who has spent innumerable hours modding Morrowind, it's not all the one sided argument it's supporters would make it out to be. At the very least not all the time.

Sometimes it can be a pretty anoyying, boring, and downright awful experience.
Once again the mods are nice and all, and I've installed more than my share but sometimes all I want to do is play the ruddy game and not worry about fan patches, mod managers, graphics extenders, additional third party programs and the like.

I like Skyrim but I do find the more story-based RPGs more engaging. The fun part of RPGs like Skyrim is the exploration. If that bores you then I guess this game isn't for you.

Stormcloaks vs Imperials? Why do I have to pick a side? I hate them both equally to be honest.
You don't have to pick a side. Not fighting in the civil war doesn't block any other quests, so you can just avoid it entirely.

The side quest are fine but some just repeats itself. Find an ancient weapon with great power, kill the ancient king in the dungeon first and then you great weapon which you then realise isn't as powerful as the weapon I already have now.
These are the radiant quests. they exist to make the world feel more alive. If you want interesting quests, join a guild.

Okay that's just a few of my thoughts, What do you think and yes you can have a go at me for thinking Skyrim is boring lol
What's the point of this thread again?

To express my thoughts and opinions maybe? You are right maybe it's not for me or its just missing something that I don't know about yet.
