Ok, I realise facebook isn't the place to go for intelligence but seriously...

This is one those vote quiz things that goes around. If you look the answer 0 is winning on almost a million. This means almost a million people since this stared, a week ago, cannot do simple maths.

What's more is this is just those on facebook who've seen this and bothered to answer. This is a seriously depressing realisation of what humanity is becoming.

Edited to remove typo in title.

Lack of mathematical prowess is small factor in the broad range of "intelligence". Most people forget about PEMDAS when they enter the real world. Way to generalize.

There have been a lot of threads on this forum about this.

Many people never payed attention to math class. Really, only the people that internalized math are going to get that problem right. I don't think about "PEMDAS." In fact, I didn't even remember that there was an acronym for it unti it came up here a few weeks ago.

That's not really a part of day to day equations. Not even cashiers deal with anything more than two-character equations. And even then, there's usually only addition and subtraction.

In the last couple of months we have had two topics here with hundreds of replies discussing the outcome of a simple calculation problem. I think it was 48/2*(9+3) or something. So yeah, lots of people cannot do basic calculation... :(

You could be disappointed...or proud. I'm honestly impressed by how many people caught that minus sign.

Don't worry. Eventually we'll have machines do everything for us and we can all rot in our own stupidity (^_^)

But if you go back to that example, that isn't people not being able to do maths that's because of condencing it to one line and the different ways it can be read. This is a simple case of multilipaction having higher operational order than addition.

no. you can't do simple day-to-day equations with this, it's such a basic and important part of math that you don't ever forget.
I also never forget to capitalise i's when they stand alone, and the start of sentences - something that seems to have escaped you.

See, just because you're not good in certain areas doesn't make you unintelligent.

Firstly, most people are fucking horrible at maths. That doesn't make them unintelligent, that just makes them bad at maths. Secondly, most people bad at maths have also forgot the law of operators. Thirdly, most probably just don't give a fuck enough to read it properly.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
that actually looks more like the type of question that tests to see if your really paying attention to it since its also got a -1 hidden in there that is easy to over look if your just skimming it

also they already tax people who are bad at math, so I dont see what your bitching about
the tax is called the lotto, look it up

Don't inflate your ego too much on this. These "simple" maths questions are actually based around fundamental comprehension issues i.e, it's not the math itself, but the language of math that's been tested here.

I wouldn't consider myself stupid, but I had to think about this question for longer then I deem comfortable.

It's a trick question designed to trip people up. Getting it wrong does not make someone an idiot.

How many people do you think would give more than a millisecond of thought to a math problem on facebook? 99% of those people know "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally," and should a real math issue come up they'd remember it. Stop generalizing people as idiots based on a single flawed experiment to try and prove how much better than them you are. It's conceited, unfair, and it won't make you any friends.

Thank you for giving away the answer. Now, if this question pops up on my Facebook I can get it right and feel all smart like the rest of y'all, because apparently not knowing the answer to a single math problem makes me a mongoloid.
