I'd say console gaming is dying out as a whole.

You see what the current consoles can do now. Watch movies, surf the internet, check youtube... eventually people are going to realise, "Hey! This isn't a console anymore! This is a PC!"

Then I shall appear before the new PC users and lead them to the Promised Land of PC gaming as their savior! And there shall be free cookies every Sunday!

Okay, maybe not the last bit there, but can someone give me free cookies every Sunday anyway?

I do like that I can watch netflix instantly on my TV with my xbox. ( of course I could just put a TV tuner in my computer and hook it up to a tv and vwalla) and for certain types of games ( IMO FPS) work better with a controller and like wise others ( RTS) work better on comp, in other words I feel that they each have their own place.......... And then you have people that own MACs if they want to play a game then ( unless its WoW) they are going to need a console.
FPS work bettr with a controller? what have you been smoking.
I'd say fighting games and adventure games work better on a controller but the reason they give you auto-aim on consoles is because the controller is not nearly as good as a mouse/keyboard

The X360 library is in no way superior to the PS3.
And I speak as an owner of all the consoles. I rarely buy anything for my 360 that isn't a shooter or a racer.
I think that argument just shot itself in the foot. "It's not a great library since I only like 2 of it's genres."[/quote]

Which isn't what I said at all.

I'm not going to harp on you but I have to disagree. Most of the game I really love are on the 360. I was a total PS2 rabid fan and 360 won me over the same way PS2 had, with a large selection of great games.

Ehh I kinda sorta agree. I think that Xbox sold so well not because it's "superior" but for a couple specific reasons. It had a year head start, and it was cheaper.

There was an article here on Escapist about how the PS3 is catching up...

As for the Wii, it did well because it's super cheap and also very "family friendly" as they say. Waggle waggle! I win!

I would love to see a statistic on average age of console owners per console. My guess would be, from youngest to oldest: Wii, Xbox, PS3. Which would make a lot of sense as to why Kinect is doing so well... it's definitely a "family" ie: kiddy toy. Like the Wiimote. Move, well it is too to a large extent, however, if it has the oldest average owner age of the three it would make sense that the current owners aren't too interested in that fan-dangled new tech.

That said. PC is BOSS.

You're so off in your assumptions. Please do a little research before you make a thread like this.

While I dislike Microsoft, I will admit that they are doing very well in the gaming industry.

OP: Well let's sail past the part where you explain what shrooms you two were on.
MS isn't going anywhere, you may not have noticed but these guys aren't exactly small.
Kinect isn't the replacement for a new console, but it will surely extend it's lifetime, and the same goes for Sony, so don't expect any new consoles until 2015.
MS will still hold a huge number of games as they did sofar, and with the number of their consoles out there how could they not sell, the exclusives may shift from one to the other but you got a huge pile of games everywhere.

And the Wii, well that has it's own market and development team.
Nintendo may decide to feed it's fans with a couple of new games, but it really can't take over the xbox market now can it?

I don't think Microsoft will have any problems shifting there next gen consoles.

No matter what I'm getting Sony's Next console, NO MATTER WHAT. Because I had a PS1-2-3 and I'm god damn'd getting the PS4! Call me a Fanboy..

My point is, im pretty sure there are people that feel the same about the Xbox.

okay i'm just gonna randomly acknowledge and rebute (or maybe not) things i remember reading.
(sorry, i just harvested some felweed and am feeling like an altered beast)

1. kinect cannot, and will not be microsofts hat in the ring as far as the next generation goes. maybe it will be a large part of it, say the xbox 720 has the sensor bar built right into the console, while maintaining functionality and ascethetics, that would just be PART of the new xbox. and kinect isn't being used to its potential either. to save kinect, here's some of my advice: firstly a game that incorporates controller AND movement gaming. imagine a mech game where you could sit in the cockpit view, using the controller to move, but then have to reach up with your actual hand to a specific part and go through a shell reloading procedure, or just hit a crazy attack launch button. i'm thinking of a level of interaction that breaks the fourth wall, like having to change controller slots to fight psycho mantis. traditional gaming amplified. movement will never be the sole method of delivering commands to your in game persona, mostly for the reason that it gets incredibly old. imagine a vr completely bad ass graphics game first person shooter, like they played in that one episode of house, well without a dpad on the gun, or some sort of 360 degree treadmill beneath you, you'll be lifting your legs up and down in place to walk. that will get old fast. this movement trend WILL die, and i think microsoft is playing it smart not basing it's whole future on it.

all that aside, there will be major updates though, they're not a (insert large amount of money here) dollar company because they don't know what they're doing and cant handle competition. in one generation, xbox surpassed playstation, in my opinion.

2.i guess the things in the wall about the games shoulda been it's own point. so reread that part if you'd like.

3. xbox live isn't the worst service by far, and from what i can see, you're basing that solely on the need to pay for it. (and by the way, how many of ps3 users have spent how much on Home and Playstation+? freedom isn't free) but the fact is that while (if i remember correctly) playstation relies on servers, which can at any point, be shut down. rendering some achievements (or trophies) unattainable especially for budget gamers getting games later in their lives. whereas xbox relies on player hosted games, meaning that you can still find multiplayer matches in games like Prey. and the wii friend code system is by far the worst set up in the current lineup. if they haven't fixed that haha, i don't know, don't own a wii anymore.

4. lasagna is pretty good. and you're right, the points system needs to go, its an annoying unneccessary middle man.

5. you forget one thing, how many playstation exclusives has xbox borrowed or took outright since last generation? that WILL continue. Metal Gear is both, LA Noir went both, ms jacked katamari (both now) ms jacked gta and got the dlc (both now) ms has the dead rising 2 pro- and epi- logues.

this shit all adds up. personally, i'd like to see nintendo go the way of sega, and just make games. then again, not really, because nintendo has been selling us the same game for over 20 years.

does anyone know what happened to that game that was supposed to be like gta, except you had your bike, and the bike was supposed to be like your companion, and you customize it and shit? i was looking forward to that game.

Microsoft is making plenty of money.

Your argument is invalid. And I'm not trying to make a reference to a very tired meme, here. Some of your premises are false, which renders your argument invalid.

It also happens to be unsound as even if your premises were true, as none of your reasons would really force microsoft to opt out of the gaming console market. They're using Kinect as an update for the 360? Live costs money? All that shit doesn't matter, cause Microsoft is still reaping in the profits.

Seriously, man, it's like basic economics here. A business will continue so long as it's making money. Isn't that rather obvious?

No seriously, you're being serious?!
This

But seriously, Best quality online, has a great digital distribution system, MORE POPULAR IN EVERY WAY THAN THE PS3, it beats their shit in game library, and the motion controller is far superior.
Your thread is in-fact wrong in every-way but so no ban this is IMO

Edit: I forgot that the PS3 also has a subscription type of service that sucks that is the same price as XBL and they get a a lot of content normal PS3 users don't which shows that most companies are going to the pay for play thing, and btw look at WoW super popular-15$ a month it shows that most people don't care unless your either cheap or poor

Sony has improved the PS3 so much from the early years but they still suffer from issues...

* 360 sells more games than the PS3

* 360 has LIVE and all the content they sell on the service

* Kinect looks like it will outsell Move

I didn't know that... about your number 3 if the xbox realy uses a P2P system and charges for it thats complete BS. Not only is P2P unreliable but its a big advantage to laggers in competitive gameplay.
and your number 5 goes both ways. In the end sony is getting more out of the exchange (in terms of quality games). I actualy belive next gen will have the exact same game library.

PSN is exactly the same.

Pretty sure 2.5 million sales so far isn't a failure on Kinects part. I mean you base your entire argument off three things it seems. First being that Kinect is a failure (It isn't) and cant compete with Wii and Ps3 (It can), second XBL is terrible (Wrong. Don't know how many times I have heard and seen people say XBL is the best online service right now, on here and in real life), and last that you seem to think Microsoft won't update 360 (?). Oh and that Nintendo and Sony are going to release consoles soon(Lol). Honestly, I think you are a fanboy.

You're probably wrong on everything you stated, but who knows? If you want to play MS games and you prefer a controller that's not made for 5yo children and you don't mind paying a fee for superior online gaming, the Xbox is the only choice for a console. We'll see about the future specs and all, but the Xbox is a very good choice for many people. Kinect does things that the other do not and it works. When the games come, it will be an even greater success (sadly).
i disagree. kinect is for 5yo children and xbox live is for suckers.

I wouldn't really care, if you asked me any time up until a few weeks after reach came out I would, but now I have sold most of my games, unplugged the xbox, and bought a loud of games on pc.

and as others have said i'm pretty sure that kinect and move is just prolonging the lifetime of this console generation and will probably be a large part in the next one too.
