Just don't insult cops, no matter what the Constitution says otherwise. There is being a smartass, and then there's stupid. A line might've been crossed latter here.

The Freedom of Speech protects your right to say what you want, it doesn't mean there isn't consequences for what you might spout off to the wrong person.

It may seem completely wrong, but then again.. what doesn't about society in this day and age?

Meh

I suppose I'll probably just plead guilty.
When I mellowed out the cops seemed to start to like me.

He and his partner and I actually talked a bit and we made each other laugh.
He can see you were a smart kid, Once you calmed down i think it probably shined through, but by then you'd already made the impression. As i said in my earlier post, This should teach you a lesson.

You were unlucky you called a cop an asshole, Imagine what wouldve happened if he was some gangbanger instead.

Someone mentioned it earlier in the thread, but I made a vlog about it earlier today.

And being a wise ass while he was talking to me and asking for an ID.

Charged with disorderly conduct.
I co-operated completely during the arrest. Gave him my information (albeit in a smart ass way).

I can beat this in court right?
Probably not, insulting police is actually an offense, as stupid as it sounds...

And disorderly conduct is such a large offense it covers anything and everything... it's a minor offense though, you won't go to jail or some crap.
Let me translate disorderly conduct for you. Basically, it's a way of maintaining police-state esque control over civilians. OP, I sure as Hell hope this didn't happen in the US. Europe maybe...

Sorry to say but you kind of deserve it. If you hadn't been a smartarse, you wouldn't have been charged. You should have given your ID, make POLITE conversation, thank them and leave. They're only doing their job.

You should get off with a slap on the wrist. Fine <$150 or the "learn some respect" community service. The closer you live to the city the better your odds. They have better shit to deal with. Don't smart off to judge. When asked why you did it, have a little "bad day" "stressed out" sob story ready or a valid reason besides being an ass.

I'm appalled. I certainly hope none of you are American.

Yes, you should fight this. Cops overstep their boundaries all the time, and this sounds like that kind of case. Disorderly conduct laws are meant to protect the public from genuine disturbances, not the fragile egos of cops.

I did give him my ID.
I co-operated completely outside of giving lip.

Why is it illegal to begin with?

I have the first/fourteenth amendment behind me completely.
I'm pretty sure if you start your insult with "In my opinion" they can't charge you for anything

That's where you went wrong. Just take the slap on the wrist and learn from your mistake ^_^

Hope it goes well.

Sounds like the problem is that you're an idiot who called a cop an asshole.
Was I stupid and rude?
Yes.

Is that illegal?
No.
Actually being rude to a police officer IS illegal. Personally I live in New York City, and everyone here while either hating or loving police officers agrees that the best thing to do is treat them with respect. If someone signs up to protect your sorry ass from crime than the least thing you can do is leave your attitude at the door.

That is an outright lie, you liar! The police are nothing if not the most loyal, trust worthy people EVER! You as an American should never question the authority of the police. They are here to protect and serve.
