THREE MONTHS' NOTICE?! WHO THE HELL GETS THREE MONTHS' NOTICE?!!?!?!?!

In the U.S., you get zero notice, and for a damn good reason--they're afraid you'll do something nasty (say, to the computer system). Firing consists of "you're fired" followed by you being escorted to collect your belongings and then escorted from the building with a final "we'll mail you your check."

Being fired is not the end of the world. Get over it and get a new job.
If you get that in Australia I garentee you'll get a punch in the face from someone, getting a new job is like giving birth to raw cancer; Painful and wont happen. The resession has fucked over 25% of Australia with more coming.(You also get 3 "Warnings" here but they'll comeup with any bullshit to fire you, like "Your Shoes are dirty". No shit, I work with grease all day.)

I'm pretty sure you get at least a few weeks notice wherever it is you live, It's your right as a worker.

I feel your pain, mate. I just got the notice that I'm fired myself.
The reason? No Norwegians. Apperantly, we're too expensive. Well, kiss my ass I say!
Anyway. Luckily I've got one more contract to finish, and then I'm without occupation. Meh!
Well, on one upside, you don't have to deal with your moronic boss and coworkers every day in an area that's so small that you can't effectively avoid them anymore. I wish you the best of luck finding a new place/boat, Daye.

Nope. It's called being employed "at will"--you can quit at any time for any reason or no reason, and they can fire you at any time for any reason or no reason. Rational people purchase unemployment insurance.

It makes sense if you think about it. Disgruntled employees have cost companies hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars by screwing up the computer system or deleting important files. I wouldn't want people sticking around after they know they're being fired.

In England, you give 2 weeks notice for resignation and the company needs to give you 2 weeks to 6 months notice if you're going to be made redundant so you can sort out benefits and stuff.
and for the colonists here this is how the free world operates more or less.

Do you think i have a case?
Yes. In the UK you can legally sue them for unjust firing - provided, of course, that there wasn't a more solid secondary reason for it. Surely they didn't just fire you just because you complained, because that would be stupid (and opening them up to a lawsuit). Was there anything else that they mentioned during the reviews?

I kinda know how you feel, my job starts on prohibation for everyone, so slip ups at the start will get you fired, I was a service clerk for Save On Foods (a grocery store) and there was a service clerk that was worse than me but not on prohibation, I was fired for "not showing any signs of improvement" basicaly i was a bit slow, mainly because I was still getting used to it (it was my first job after all) but they said improvement I wasn't even told I was doing anything wrong, the head service clerk said I was one of the best, except in bringing the carts in so the day I was fired the head service clerk said "THAT'S BULLSH*T it should have been alex to get fired not you all Alex does is stand around doing nothing." but Alex keeps getting warning because hes not on prohibation, they fired him a month later and asked to take me back (the place was short on service clerks) by then I got a job at subway and said "I'm sorry I'm not coming back you fired me and thats your loss." basicaly, being fired for small reasons is unfair especialy since they didnt WARN ME I was doing anything wrong, my brother said "Oh you should have noticed what you were doing wrong thats why they fired you." my arguement for that is; I was new they could have told me, I didnt know everything and should have gotten at least a heads up and I would have improved, and the Assistant manager often complimented my work and she FIRED ME, how is that fair, she was telling me I was doing good and firing me for not doing good, sorry for talking in circles but people should be more considerate.

Well Ok than. Can't help you directly.

When considering your rights as a worker, please also consider this;
Your boss can change your file. It will be his word against yours in many cases. An argument you might loose. Unless you have other employees to back you up. I'm not saying you shouldn't do it, just consider it well.

well im not 100% certain on this, but in the contract where the probationary period is detailed, i think its possible to put something like " at any time during this period we have the right to kick your ass out of the doorr for any reason we damn well like,so suck it" or something like that.

best advice is to read through your contract, especially the bit where the probation is stated.

also suing the company you word/ed for doesn't help you get a new job. you won't get a decent reference, and if you decided not to mention it to your future prospective employees they will wonder why you didnt work in such a long period of time.

Meh if I got unfairly sacked during the two weeks notice I'd destroy everything electronic I'm awesome like that, my revenge on people is always destroying there computers which is very easy considering the sheer stupidity of people around here.

What's the point in fighting for a job when the guy in charge is a cock?
Survival.
How exceedingly true, although I will admit when I got fired from my job I just snuck back in and raided the supply closet. Fun times! Gruiella office warfare. Hey, actually, thats what you should do! Liberate the opressed cinema worker masses! Viva la revolution!
Lol. I've only just reached 100 posts and I'm already being jokingly chosen as some sort of revolutionary leader... Sounds about normal. Hah.

But even cinema workers don't have it as bad as check-out people in supermarkets. Poor souls. So many never get promoted.

That could quite possibly be one of the most awesome things ever!

brb, going to Australia!
What would be really sad, is if you'd actually believe that. I've seen some Americans be that stupid...

But yes! Come joust kangaroos with us! That's totally what endangered species are for!

You... haven't been out west, have you? We really do joust kangaroos! The bigger ones can be ridden. Try it out some time.

And kangaroos are not endangered? They have to cull them often?

Being sacked, though... I really do empathise. The suggestion that you come to Australia is a fair enough point in some ways. At the very least, we have a good unemployment setup for citizens, and bigger health care payments than in the US.

Please. I have been "out West" a lot. But riding them? That's bullshit.

Right, whatever. I was confusing them with some other marsupials.

Wow, 3 months notice...I've only ever heard of 2 weeks notice. If you know for sure they are violating contract terms then I reckon you should fight it.

I'm lucky. I've been with the same company for almost 3 years and get along with the owners son fine. Last year, Jager bombs etc were off the drinks tab at the Christmas part...but we got Jager bombs, thanks to him :D And I get nice bonuses...and no I'm not sleeping with him -_-
