Heh. I will just say this: I have been fired many times in my life. I have been fired over tattoos (even though they were completely covered up by my clothes). I have been fired over (false) accusations of embezzlement. I have been fired over 'attitude problems'. I have been fired because the economy sucked.
I have learned one thing about all of this: Ultimately speaking, you will never hurt yourself by getting legal counsel about your situation.
Of course, I don't know what it's like in the UK, but here in the States, you can find a lawyer who will at least discuss your situation with you for free rather easily.
So, I guess what I would say is: Don't ask us, ask a professional who understands. If you want to ask us anything, ask us if we'd invest a little money to get the advice of an expert who could tell us whether or not we have a realistic case.
...and in your situation, I'd have to say 'yes', unless that money was the difference in between eating/still having a place to live and not.
