Snotty condescension? Oh, you're asking for it.
Okay, ugh... explanation.
You again, still didn't get what I was saying. For some reason you believe this is an Anti-Halo rant. -sigh-
Halo is the example I used to express my explanation of what I do not like in newer games. If you thought this was a 'I hate Halo' post, you can not be farther from knowing what I'm trying to say.
I'm talking about how games are focused on fast-paced action rather then story. When I played Halo, the only thing I could get from the story is 'Aliens landed on colony. Kill them before they kill you'. Now it may be because I really didn't care for playing another FPS, or the fact that I was unsure of this at the time new company, but there was not really much of any story I can recall. Not like Dragon Age were right from the cut scene you are drawn in.
If you can explain to me, the vast history of the Halo world, in which why did the war start, what made the disagreements of the races, why this and what about that, maybe I could get a more in depth feel and just think it was an aim and shoot game (not like there is anything wrong with those games. Again, I enjoyed Halo for the multiplayer)
And you start going off on me about not liking Gears of War. You obviously didn't read the post saying that I loved the game. And I agreed with you about the action paced scenes, but they was a more defined story in Gears of War then in Halo, and because of that, I felt more devoted to the game.
You, and only you, keep going on this imagination that I'm saying 'If you don't like the games I like, you're wrong'. Huh, well you're wrong, but not because you like different games but because you are the only one the fully did not understand my original post.
I stated this as my personal opinion seeing if anyone (and there are many) had the same thoughts about recent games leaving story out. That is what this post is about, not a Halo bashing forum. And I'm not trying to force any opinions on anyone who reads this, but if people would like to have intelligent conversations about differences in games, I have been open to them and messaging them.
You are rebutting every sentence, rather then hearing the whole post. And your arguments don't fully effect the real reason why I posted this. All you're doing is saying I'm wrong for having an opinion, rather then stating an opposing argument to falsify my own. Read my post again so you can figure out what it means. The first line should've told what the forum was about.

Congratulations, you've successfully defended yourself from a slew of accusations that I never made, in an effort to skirt the reality of what I actually said. Such imaginary accusations include:

-This is a specifically anti-halo thread
-You hate Gears of War
-You are wrong for having an opinion
-You are forcing your opinion on others

You based your entire rebuttal on things I never said, whereas I went directly after the things you did say. I'm not going to be side-tracked, and I honestly see no point in continuing this if all you're going to do is willfully misinterpret my posts.

There is nothing I can really add that Funkiest Monkey didn't say in his first post. Though I do agree with you that the story, plot and canon of the universe should take precedence over graphics and fancy explosions, I feel you underestimate the importance of gameplay. If a game hampers you at every turn and adds difficulty to the game where it shouldn't I have a problem with this. If it is bad enough I will not play the game. I don't care if it is the most moving piece of media in the last 20 years I won't play the game if it is not fun.

That being said if the controls are intensionally difficult for gameplay purposes that is a different story. Look at Heavy Rain. It connected both gameplay and story in a creative impacting way. The controls were difficult, but only to add to the story.

Though Iwant to make it a point to agree with you on one thing. The MGS series my favorite collection of games. Have you played Peace Walker yet? It gives you an intresting look into why Big Boss founded Outer Heaven. Also it has so much extra stuff to do, I am somewhare around 100 hours in and still not finished.

Also I liked Halo, I liked it's story, and I read the books. Not saying it had the best story ever, but I did enjoy the universe, and Forge.

In a way your right, but your version of fun is different then mine and many others. I like GTA 4 a lot. It's realism immersed me, and I couldn't stop playing, but after several hours of playing the game it got boring because the effect of the realism wore off. There was still the good gameplay afterwards that kept me playing for a little while, but that wore off eventually. Idk I haven't played SR2 nearly as much. I guess a new game came along and stole me away from it early. SR2's gameplay is a little better, but it's realism barely even exists... which doesn't matter. Even after beating the game there was still a lot to do. Finding hidden places, doing all the activities, finding easter eggs (there's a good amount of them.), re-customizing your character in weird ways, ect. GTA 4 only had a few things afterward. The multiplayer for GTA was somewhat disappointing. When you think about it there are so many cool things you can do with your friends, but once you play it it doesn't seem as cool as when you thought of it. For instance, like you want to raid a police station with your friends in GTA 4 and so you decide to join a group of 6 friends. At the beginning of raiding the place you suddenly realize it just doesn't seem all that intense or life like, and it totally destroys the immersion. It's the little things I guess. Oh just remembered, RDR. There is a DLC coming out that will let the gambling mini games be available in multiplayer like poker, blackjack, and so on. Now idk about you, but the little things like that make the multiplayer so much more fun because of the variety of things to do. With SR2's multiplayer it had everything in it from the single player. This made the multiplayer so much fun. My brother would play it online with one of his best friends and there would be times where I couldn't stop laughing at how ridiculous things would get. Hell one would try and fly a plane, and the other would drive a truck. They both would work together to try and get the plane to land on top of the moving truck lol. It's creativeness and randomness like that that is missing from sandbox multiplayers.

lol sry that I went a bit off track, but I hope you understand what I'm saying :)
So you are agreeing with me, I think.
GTA:SA is still the best GTA of all time. I like the atmosphere of Vice City better, but SA has so much more to do and play around with.
While I do like reaslism in games, it only works when it fits the game. Sandbox crime games like GTA don't work well with realism. Games like Mount&Blade and Gran Turismo do, but those aren't about random chaos (randomc chaos is certainly doable, but it isn't the focus).
